- Chinese investors Zhongshang seize another $57m Nigerian jet in Canada - In a dramatic escalation of the legal battle between Nigeria and the Chinese company Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment Ltd, the firm has seized yet another Nigerian asset-a Bombardier 6000 jet-in Canada. This latest development highlights the increasing complexity and stakes in the ongoing dispute, which has already seen multiple Nigerian assets, including jets and properties, seized across various countries.
The recent confiscation of the Bombardier 6000 in Canada adds to a growing list of Nigerian assets targeted by Zhongshang Fucheng. The jet, valued at approximately $57 million, was initially acquired by Dan Etete, a former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum, who has been embroiled in various legal controversies, including the infamous OPL 245 oil field scandal. The jet was one of the assets that Nigerian authorities had previously seized from Etete in 2016.
Despite Nigeria's efforts to retain ownership of the aircraft, a ruling by Judge David Collier of the Superior Court of Quebec on March 21, 2024, dismissed the country's legal arguments. The judge rejected Nigeria's claims of sovereign immunity and criticized the government for its delayed response to the legal proceedings, which it attributed to the February-March 2023 general elections. With this ruling, Zhongshang Fucheng was granted the right to seize the jet, marking a significant victory for the Chinese company in its broader campaign to enforce an arbitration award against Nigeria.

@@President4Empaths are you even Nigerian
That's what you get when you trust the Chinese. Hehehe!
That’s what you get if you try to cheat the Chinese.
The Chinese trusted you and went into an agreement with you, which you broke! And and at the same time you are talking about 'trust'? You were obviously trying to 'pull a fast one' on them, but it went awry! The typical Niger 419! That the country itself should be playing it is disgraceful. And don't forget that other countries and international firms are watching and taking note!
Trust?! That's what happens when you refuse to pay your loans
No, not about trust, this is about legal practice all over the world.
I will give you an example
Australia signed a contract with a French company to build their submarine. When another Australian prime minister came to power, he cancelled the contract signed with French and awarded it to a UK company. The French gvt sent their bill for compensation. The Australian gvt paid this bill to French, and there was no noise about it.
So in business, it's about to do the right things
It is not about Chinese, it is about the agreement the authority signed. If you're not fulfilled the deal you signed,no one let you go free including the West
i dont like chinese but agreement is agreement. Integrity is the key
Honesty is integrity
Exact
Africa jumped from the frying pan into the Fire dealing with the Chinese. We should know by Now, we have No friends!!!
Being 'Friends' is not a licence to misbehave! There are norms, even in the ways that we behave with friends, or else you get 'dumped'! The same applies to countries. Why sign agreements and not honour them? There are limits to '419'!
What does an abuse and non-fulfilment of contracts have to do with this statement? Should Nigeria's behaviour be excused ?? This is not about friendship but integrity. Honour your contracts.
Simple as.
Pay your damn bills and you’ll have friends.
This guy is insulting Nigerians and the whole Continent 😳
What do you mean this guy is insulting Nigeria and the continent? Why involving other countries in the continent in your mess. Pay back your debts and stop making excuses. You go around running your mouth proclaiming yourselves to be a giant of Africa yet you failing to pay up your debts. This crookedness is giving a bad name to all of us.
@patrickgcabashe1916 means he doesn't have no damn knowledge to be the head of the useless ECOWAS,
Their politicians might believe they're above the law, and that might fly in their own country, but don't bring that nonsense to the international stage.
So you didn't want to listen to kadafi.
Africans should invest with other Africans. You have the diamonds and the oil uranium. And?
Any other precious material? What is wrong with you?
African countries know to be cautious when dealing with Nigeria. They have a track record of shifting laws to serve their own agenda. Just ask South Africa's MTN, which was hit with a $5.2 billion fine.
Unless you want to fall into this saying the hard-headed will surely fall hard, it's best to clean up shop, learn your lesson and do better and disassociate with those that brought you there and that means get your debts clear and get them out of your business Period.
Nigeria should invade China and recover their jet😂
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂Funny
What does that mean?
That’s a fight you don’t want to have. It’s prolly what they been waiting for to take over Nigeria. They have the lastest weapons.
Great idea.........and then say that China belongs to Nigeria since ancient times
@@zeeqq105 That’s it.
How is it that other countries could allow your property to be seized in their country by another country? If the shoe was on the other foot, you wouldn't be able to seize anything.
The other foot always makes sure to honour a contract or pay their bill on time if this decides to cancel a contract.
The same scenario happened between the Australian gvt and the French gvt. Australia cancelled with French and gave it to the UK.
French gvt sent their bill for compensation, and the Australian gvt paid this bill without any noise
Well they could of brought Boeing 🤷♀️😆😆
Hahahahahah🤣🤣🤣🤣...this is just the beginning 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂!!!!
That's what you get for letting them in China and Russia😮
Nigerians 😅🤣😂 innocent sheep in the field of global business?
And the west is better?
The west will seize your country, not your assets 😂
That’s what you get if you try to cheat whoever.
So should they go to sleep and clap for Nigeria for not meeting their end of an agreement? This mentality is why we are where we are- covering up rot!!
now XI wants common law as in English law
Africa for Russia and China keep on giving your resources for free brtherly love
Welcome the Brotherhood of Man!
