DRESSED in a frilly pink dress with knee high socks, a furry headband around her platinum blond hair and full eyelashes, 21-year-old Jade Smith looks more like a porcelain doll than a real life person - and that’s exactly the look she’s aiming for. Wanting to look like a real life ‘Lolita’ doll, Jade, from Wallington, Surrey, estimates she’s spent £10,000 to date on her doll-like outfits, £8,000 on shoes, not to mention the extra money spent on accessories, wigs, key chains and toys. She even has a monthly £20 glitter budget. Jade, or Princess Jadette, as she is known on social media, wants to look like a porcelain doll and admits In the future she’d like to have plastic surgery to enhance her doll-like looks.

I wonder how would she live if she had a job that didn't appreciate her 'style' of fashion and that they had a fashion code that she doesn't like she spent a whole lot of money to 'look like a doll' which in my opinion..failed, and now which money is she gonna use to buy groceries unless she's really wealthy to keep buying expensive clothes and can afford groceries and everything else needed in everyday life.

The fashion per say isn't to capture a doll look, the comment seems more based around her condition which causes her pain and movement problems. The money spent was over a span of probably 10 plus years, considering this was her interest since she was a teen. There's a thing called budgeting, people spend more on buying a new car.

I totally agree with this girl. We all have our own sense of style and should be able to share it with the world. People should imbrace the differences between everyone instead of picking on those who look different. To be honest, my everyday outfits usually look like costumes you'd wear trick or treating, and that's just me. People should accept that everyone has their own sense of style.

Some surgeons might take the risk, but generally you’re correct, surgery aggravates the nerves further and any invasive procedures are usually avoided if possible after the illness is diagnosed.

I absolutely adore this fashion and she can really pull them off, but the thing that bothers me is that people think that all Lolita’s are living dolls, and that’s just not true. Also, she said it was from 80’s Japanese style, but it’s based off the Victorian and Rocco era, with slight inspiration from modern Japan.
Oh my, finally a decent deciption of Lolita fashion! Props 💕 I’m also chronically ill and Lolita fashion and the things I love really do help with dealing with the pain. Those Cinderella shoes are also stunning 😭

I don't think there's anything wrong with Lolita fashion (dressing sweet/cute) but I always feel a bit disturbed by people using the term Lolita casually. Read the book "Lolita" (the origin of the term) by Vladimir Nabokov and you'll understand what I mean. The main character is a grown man lusting after the prepubescent daughter of his girlfriend, and trying to justify it by convincing himself "she wants me". It's a classic, but creepy as hell.

Susan Schaefer i have it too. anything that can keep you warm and fuzzy helps. tights help circulation too. i wear scarfs allot anyway because my neck hurts so bad, keeping it warm helps😊 i’m soo afraid ppl see me as negative nancy or miserable that i try really hard to hide the pain in public. in a way this is a fun bubbly costume that helps her project her fun side and hide the pain in public. almost like two different personalities. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ cute outfits. lovely person inside and out. if this helps her live happily then i’m all for it🙂🙂🙂🙂

you can tell jade does it because she likes it and has fun, but her friend thinks of it as an act of subtle aggression towards other people. theres a big difference between people who dress as an expression of themselves and people who dress because they think theyre more special than other people. seeing jade compared with her nameless friend is a very good way of showing that point. her friend's the envious one, since she actually has to work at being "quirky" and 'not like other girls'. Jade is just naturally weird and owns it.

I don't have fibromyalgia but I do have chronic pain so I can relate. I spend my time trying to keep myself occupied to take my mind off the pain. Some days I'm pacing the floor for hours because it's unbearable. It's the little things you begin to appreciate like never before. Like a hug from my boyfriend, that he makes me laugh. Chronic pain has made me appreciate all the good things I have.

One thing I did want to call out is if the Lolita scene is kinder overseas. She talked about them being supportive, but in the US they can be quite toxic. There are some amazing and sweet Lolitas out there, but then there are also the stuck up ones. It drives away many people who are interested in the fashion or lifestyle. It breaks my heart when I've seen the way some of these Lolitas act, especially towards new people or those who don't have the money or sewing skills.

i mean yeah, but the subculture originates in japan. a lot of people who are in this culture fan go overboard with their attempts to look "asian" (such as trying to make their eyes look monolid) or fetishize asian people. so yeah, you are right about how lolita is derived from european culture, but the place where lolita fashion even became a thing is often a subject of cultural appropriation from people who like it.
F DJ F DJ but lolita fashion is basically 1880's european clothes fashion. They just modified it and put some colors. Like classic and victorian lolita. There is nothing to stole and making culture approptiation here. The appropriation is more from japanese but sure in a good way. Sure the subculture was create in japan but a bunch of clothes are litteraly a copy of 1880's european clothes even the colors. Culture appropriation works only if it's with the ones who look far from the orginals form. But... if a european perso who are not japanese and love 1880's clothes but don't even know about and existance of lolita create and design a dress who look like a lolita. Is it lolita ? Is it culture appropriation ? 🤔

I have a friend who has the same illness, there is no treatment yet for this disease, people can only take pills (antidepressants to sleep better), go to the physiotherapist, find time to rest etc. Doctors don't even really know what causes this illness (sorry for my bad english, I'm French~)
Yeah Fibromyalgia is just an umbrella term for "I can't figure out what's wrong with you" I got the diagnosis, went to different doctors and had surgery and what was it? Endometriosis and vitamin b-12 and D deficiency. Sure it sucks to be in pain every day, but therapy can help a lot if you have pain that's undiagnosed.

Lots, and I mean lots of people know about lolita, they just might not know it by name. I know in the US gothic lolita is pretty damn well known, and I imagine it is in the UK as well. Given its just a fashion subculture, it's still not that special that she needs a video dedicated to her for it. Especially when you consider what lots of people go through to get ready these days, its nothing new. I use ponytail extensions, color contacts, and spend time on my makeup as well. These are all very common, regular things now.

Olivia Martin it's pretty common when wearing this style of alternative fashion for children to think you are a princess or a fairy. I've heard of a lot actually have parents ask for pictures because their kids really want to take a picture with the princess.
