I'm from Turkey, we call this stuff as "dürüm" in here, but i heard that it is called as "shawarma" from an Israeli friend. When i told him "I don't know shawarma, what is that", and he said "Ah, you gotta be kidding me" And i researched this stuff on Wikipedia, the word "shawarma" derives from Turkish word "çevirme" (chewirme-it means spinning/turning) Shawarma/Durum is so popular in Turkey!

Yes, the other guy at 4:00 asked him to put the content of the pot under the shawarma skewer so it looks like coming from the skewer. As you can notice, he tried to get a chance but the camera guy was following him. Watch him at 4:09 waiting for a moment of distraction but no luck. It is a food stand after all.

I had added ginger garlic paste salt red chilli powder yougert and lemon juice to make shawarma spicy.
Im British almost sixty, in the sixties, 70,s and eighties we were starving almost, until the Asian,s, Italian,s, middle-eastern and Indians turned up we were living on everything with chips and jelly and custard for afters, life was much easier, more pleasant, happier then but we were short of a menu ! True religion and over population is bringing down our beautiful land and culture so the menu we were given really is expensive, maybe we were better off with custard, bland but a lot less trouble.
Word of advice. Any shawarma or doner that has shredded tomatoes embedded in the spare is waste of money. The spear need to contain the meat and black/white pepper and msg. So if you spot anything red in the spear, walk away. Choose a different restaurant.
You can always eat shwarma with Briyani. That's one combination. I don't think they serve briyani maybe they do now, but they for sure serve shwarma(only meat) separately.
I have always liked shawarma, this is my favorite food. But I can no longer eat good shawarma in Arabia. As good as Arabic shawarma n so delicious.....

In Turkish verbs are using as names too. Çevirmek is the verb, çevirme is the name but also verb too. Çevirmek means twiddle. For the döner: Like clean clean-er relation. Dön means turn. In Turkish When you add -er -ar to end of the verb, it gives them meaning of ''third-person singular present simple indicative positive'' of the verb. And it will be Döner.
