They run pretty good! Keep in mind this is almost 10 gallons of an only castor based fuel. It didn't last much past this video before needing a complete rebuild.
Just got done putting ceramic bearings a 8port P/S/R (NR S821B) and tuned crank (NR Plus 21-4WC) into a P5XLT crankcase. Cant Wait to get it running. Good stuff here bro. Lovin it.
10 gallons love the condition of your motor, proves that good tuning extends engine life. I hate hearing nitro engines screaming over lean sounds like they are screaming for help!
A lot of people run them like that to the point where they start to break up in the higher RPMs or running a body with no air flow or running shitty fuel
@@thebug4046 you're right there and then blame the engine. I've got a cen nx46 that's got 5 gallons on it still mint internally but it's always been a sensitive butt ache to tune
finally got around to putting the revo with the .19 in it. starts and runs if u blow in the exhaust tube or prime it 20 or 30 time runs for 5 seconds at idle then stalls. its as though it wont pull its own fuel. factory setting no needles touched.
done this for about 20 minutes now repeats same prime run and stall as many times as u prime it, throttle settings irrelevent, will rev up untill that prime runs out. not that id ever rev a new engine but this one wont idle regardless of throttle settings so wasnt sure what to do.
Sounds like a fuel or exhaust system leak. It's in a revo you say? Order a spring mount header or os 21tm revo header. The Traxxas one doesn't fit properly on the 19 and make the exhaust leak and you won't get any fuel pressure you will have lots of starting and tuning problems. Also make sure your fuel tank lid seal is in good condition and not damaged or you will have the same problem
@thebug4046 running a sprung dynamite platinum pipe. another issue is. the throttle servo horn is about 1mm too low to reach the horn on the carb slide. the only way to get the carb slide to actuate smoothly is to run that screw alll the way out and leave it on half a thread in order to get the carb slide to make contact with the throttle servo and even then the plastic is bent to near snapping. i dont think this engine and carb setup is meant to work on a revo
@thebug4046 honestly i just wabt to get it to a point where it can idle so i can get a couple tanks through it meanwhile i can sor out some form of throttle servo linkage that will work with it. if i have to il take the carb slide horn and grind off the bulb so its smooth similarly to the tm21 maxx carb slide horn. no bulb
I run a os .21 tm in my revo and I love it other than the price. I was going to get a backup .21 but I just noticed that they went up from $279 to $414. So that is a no on a new os .21. tm. I'm thinking about getting one of these for my nitro rustler. I'm tired of traxxas nitro motors. I have never had one to last more than 1.5 gallons. I never run them lean and I always use after run oil after use.
That's the thing with the 3.3 and 2.5 is you have to take your time with the break in process their method is absolutely horrible for all engines run a quality fuel keep your oil content 12% or a little bit less equality plug and if you do things properly they can last quite a long time would be quite surprised With the 3.3 and 2.5 because of their absolutely horrible bearing profile I change the bearings connecting rod and piston pin every few gallons and I am able to get almost 10 gallons apiece but the break in is Is where it's going to kill at the most

Anything you learn from Traxxas forget it. Just about the money they tell you to do it a certain way to kill longevity. Also tuning over rich is bad as well will were your piston and sleeve out faster because it's not coming up to temperature properly Also NEVER TUNE BY TEMPERATURE! it won't help you tune till running its best and leave it.. also a quality fuel is a must avoid Traxxas fuel its garbage it's very corrosive and burns very hot and lean and is meant to kill your engine faster keep your oil 12% or less it will run cooler tune and perform better as well as Last longer.. as for after run is a complete waste of time run your engine out of fuel when you're done you don't need it all the time unless it's going into storage. It will make starting and stuff much harder as well I run quite often a never use it and have no problem keeping in mind WD40 is not after run oil it's a kerosene based solvent that is ment to displac water. It has no film strength and wil attract water as well the best thing is Lucas air tool oil.. I do have a rc group nitro/diesel/gas rc and more. 2 question to answer and I will let you in

@@trickmustang1994 Odonnell is great fuel but it is been discontinued for about 4 or 5 years now so anything your buying is old stock if it's the racing blend it's 8% oil
I put this in my Revo 3.3 and it rips balls. I put the big block pipe on it and it improved a ton. It don’t like the trx stock pipe at all. Ran like shit. Anyway, little fucker is fast.
Great engine indeed! and great video as always man. maybe you are not the one to ask but, maybe you do know if a pull start eliminator exists for this engine? (i know i could just leave the pull start on it and bump start it) but i would like to eliminate the extra bulk at the rear as the engine is sitting sideways in my vehicle and the pull start gets in the way.
Hey thank you for watching and as far as a pull starter Eliminator goes I'm not sure that there is one for this engine but I'm sure that there is something else out there that could be made to fit from another small block.
Hi Bug 404 great video on the .19 engine. I have been waiting for months for a O.S. 11k carb for my Rustler 2.5. So I decided to just get the Dynamite .19. But can I run LC3 glow plug on the .19? I ask because I already have the LC3 plugs. Thanks

Quick question, what are you using to clean your engine components with? I typically use nitro-spray cleaner but it’s so expensive, thinking about just using brake clean, keeping it away from plastic components and o rings of course.

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my t-maxx. I bought it used and haven't been able to get it running properly as it just idles and dies every time I run it for a minute or 2. My jato has no issues plus I see nitro getting slung out from the bearing behind the flywheel. As you said the cost of all the parts to repair the engine properly are greater than this engine. So you recommend a 30% fuel mix? I'm still new to nitro and learning and have been using 20% in the jato without issues. Thanks to your videos they have been very helpful in learning all that I can about nitro engines.
They are a pretty nice performing engine very easy tuning I will say make sure to preheat it 1st before starting as they are very tight and it will make your life a lot easier now easier now I think I didn't mention that the front bearing doesn't actually seal usually running too rich or using too much afternoon oil will push past the bearing and make a leak. Also it really depends on what the prices of new parts are like in your area over here the 3.3 cost $320 Canadian so we rebuild them for about 125. Or so. And 30%? Absolutely! Go for it
@@thebug4046 Awesome thanks for all the information. My t-maxx makes me hate nitro until I get my jato running. I'll be sure to get a heat gun to make life easier and the 30% fuel. New the 3.3 is like 225 usd. I haven't checked but most people say with the trade in you can get them for about 130 usd. I'd enjoy an os21 but if I mess anything up on breaking in or tuning I'd rather do it on a less expensive engine instead of 340 plus. And I'll definitely be looking at finding a ths pipe like you said just for ease of installation and performance.

@@thebug4046 yeah I’ve made the decision to go with the .19 when my current engine gives out. Mainly because it has a pull start and the SH .12 doesn’t. My plan is to run it stock and then once it needs rebuilding I’ll try modifying it unless it’s got enough or more than enough power I need. Nothing too extreme. Just a little port work and maybe some crank work if it needs it. I’ll keep an eye on your vids on this engine to see what parts and stuff I’ll need
@@ashermorales8276 for port work on these engines it's not as easy as just making holes bigger you have to know timing numbers or you can make shit much much worse. Send it away to RB MODS i know they guy he does awesome work
@@thebug4046 I see people make ports bigger and I just facepalm every time 😂 if I’d do port work, it would be adding little fangs and chamfering the bottom of ports for better flow. Timing numbers are so sensitive on these smaller engines, even a hundredth of a millimeter changes timing by a few degrees
@@ashermorales8276 It's not just altering the port timing, but it's REAL easy to slip just a touch, and end up taking chrome off the inside of the sleeve. Then it flakes off later as the engine is running.. I port and polish my own engines if a look at the internals reveals that any work will improve it, but I will not mess with changing timing.

Yes it will drop right in to the oem engine mount and get a THS pipe kit for a tmaxx the Traxxas exhaust doesn't work properly or perform well with this engine lots of people in my rc group will show you what you need. Hey man you gotta help me, I'm trying to start my nitro but it will start in short bursts and then cut out, i prime them again and the cycle continue. You're my last resort, i've tried reddit and forums and have tried everything they say. Ive tried opening the throttle gap, making sure to prime it enough, leaning the low speed (currently at factory settings) leaning the high speed, i just cant figure it out. I have a losi 8ight t, stock engine, dynamite ercm pipe, tuning is at factory settings, and my throttle gap is little over the recommended amount. Engine isn't worn out, still has good amount of pinch, about 3 quarts in the engine.
That could be a number of different things like a fuel or exhaust system leak which is very important do not have any that could be a bad or incorrect plug depending on what entry you're dealing with old fuel over rich low speed needle. Hit up Nitro RC enthusiasts group on Facebook im an admin in their. Post a video and I will pop in Look for a guy with dark sunglasses 🤘🏻💯
@@thebug4046 Ok man I posted it there, it may not be helpful or not but i used wd-40 to clean the fuel tank, i'm not sure if it could damage the fuel tubing but i made sure to drain all of it before using
@@nitroluver4l591 WD40 is a petroleum based solvent Designed for displacement of water. It's not ment to go in the fuel tank. It can swell O rings and won't mix with the fuel and won't run on it. For cleaning up a fuel tank use a strong alcohol like what you get at the hardware store. Like denatured alcohol or 99% rubbing alcohol. I have video on that. Also don't use WD40 as after run oil again being a solvent it has no Film strength over using a real oil like ATF or air tool oil
@@thebug4046 I couldn't fix the problem so i took it by a hobby shop and they said one of carb jets was bent, so they installed a new carb and i'm back running burning nitro!

non chlorinated brake cleaner wont hurt the plastic or rubber

Do you have to use the Screws that the dynamite engine comes with for the Engine Mount? Or can use the Chrome Traxxas stock ones?

Sadly no. I kinda gave up on the 19 since I can't get any parts for it and went back to the 3.3

I’ve got a little 10th scale drag car. You think this engine would work good? I’ve got a vx .18 in it right now. I’m also thinking about the sh .12. I know it’s a smaller engine but I know the .12s are real screamers

@@thebug4046 yeah I’ve made the decision to go with the .19 when my current engine gives out. Mainly because it has a pull start and the SH .12 doesn’t. My plan is to run it stock and then once it needs rebuilding I’ll try modifying it unless it’s got enough or more than enough power I need. Nothing too extreme. Just a little port work and maybe some crank work if it needs it. I’ll keep an eye on your vids on this engine to see what parts and stuff I’ll need
@@ashermorales8276 for port work on these engines it's not as easy as just making holes bigger you have to know timing numbers or you can make shit much much worse. Send it away to RB MODS i know they guy he does awesome work
@@thebug4046 I see people make ports bigger and I just facepalm every time 😂 if I’d do port work, it would be adding little fangs and chamfering the bottom of ports for better flow. Timing numbers are so sensitive on these smaller engines, even a hundredth of a millimeter changes timing by a few degrees
@@ashermorales8276 It's not just altering the port timing, but it's REAL easy to slip just a touch, and end up taking chrome off the inside of the sleeve. Then it flakes off later as the engine is running..
I port and polish my own engines if a look at the internals reveals that any work will improve it, but I will not mess with changing timing.

This might sound like a stupid question but thus is engine specifically design for Traxxas vehicles only or can I use this in any vehicle?
It was designed for Traxxas but it will fit any small block stuff if you can figure out exhaust throttle and crankshaft setup
@@thebug4046 I appreciate the response. I’m building a 22t 4.0 nitro conversion and just looking for options. I have a OS .18 Cv-RX but it has a threaded crankshaft so looking for nitro with a sg crankshaft.

@@thebug4046 another question bc you know your shit. I bought a new OS .18 TZ cheap with a sg crankshaft so that basically fixes the compatibility issues. However how do I know what headers work? Would a .12 header work on a .18? Also what do you use for reducing engine wear? Appreciate your help!

@@thebug4046 Right on. I was curious. I have an older .21 that I started running on low nitro as inspired by your videos. TY. I live in the states so getting your hardware methanol isnt happening. I do fing HEET (yellow bottle) sometimes. But now that its getting hot out cant find it. I just like to expirement and have fun.

@@thebug4046 I hear ya. Been buying BonesBrew it works to about $33 u.s. for 3 gallons 30% 10% works for me. I did find a Motorcycle (Dirtbike) race shop that said $55 for 5 gallons of race methanol. Good deal there. TY again.
@@daveshank1921 55$ seem a little high because I hear a lot of people get vp methanol for about 35 for 5 gallons but I don't know the stats on it

How do these engines compare power wise to a 3.3? Are they better at high end? Low end? Etc..
The 19 is a 5 port. timing is better and there do make more rpm and better midrange

What needle settings should I use before the first start?
Leave it as is and make adjustments as needed. And I can't really give you settings Because your elevation and everything that you're doing is going to be different than mine

Yes it will drop right in to the oem engine mount and get a THS pipe kit for a tmaxx the Traxxas exhaust doesn't work properly or perform well with this engine lots of people in my rc group will show you what you need. Facebook nitro/diesel/gas rc and more. Just 2 questions to answer and I will let you in as I'm the owner

Hey man you gotta help me, I'm trying to start my nitro but it will start in short bursts and then cut out, i prime them again and the cycle continue. You're my last resort, i've tried reddit and forums and have tried everything they say. Ive tried opening the throttle gap, making sure to prime it enough, leaning the low speed (currently at factory settings) leaning the high speed, i just cant figure it out.
I have a losi 8ight t, stock engine, dynamite ercm pipe, tuning is at factory settings, and my throttle gap is little over the recommended amount. Engine isn't worn out, still has good amount of pinch, about 3 quarts in the engine.
That could be a number of different things like a fuel or exhaust system leak which is very important do not have any that could be a bad or incorrect plug depending on what entry you're dealing with old fuel over rich low speed needle. Hit up Nitro RC enthusiasts group on Facebook im an admin in their. Post a video and I will pop in Look for a guy with dark sunglasses 🤘🏻💯
@@thebug4046 Ok man I posted it there, it may not be helpful or not but i used wd-40 to clean the fuel tank, i'm not sure if it could damage the fuel tubing but i made sure to drain all of it before using
@@nitroluver4l591 WD40 is a petroleum based solvent Designed for displacement of water. It's not ment to go in the fuel tank. It can swell O rings and won't mix with the fuel and won't run on it. For cleaning up a fuel tank use a strong alcohol like what you get at the hardware store. Like denatured alcohol or 99% rubbing alcohol. I have video on that. Also don't use WD40 as after run oil again being a solvent it has no Film strength over using a real oil like ATF or air tool oil
@@thebug4046 I couldn't fix the problem so i took it by a hobby shop and they said one of carb jets was bent, so they installed a new carb and i'm back running burning nitro!
