This also works for Franklin's Tower by the Dead. Dicky used to jam on this as an intro to Blue Sky and specifically mentioned doing it as a tribute to Jerry.
You're lessons turned me into a great player when I was kid. I like to try figure it out by ear, but when I want to watch a lesson it's by you. Thank you Andy.
I own all of Andy's Jam Night lessons. It amazes me that every time I hear Andy play that Strat his tone is awesome. Thanks for a great lesson on a great song.
Watch a lot of your stuff, but this one you got me. I dont hear the D in the jam. Even watching all the ABB videos i only see and hear the E to the A in the jam.
As I’ve mentioned this is the way I played it w/Betts…there are many live videos of us doing it this way but in the key of G, and the chords are G-F-C…
My good friend. Thank you for keeping your presence. You always have something important to contribute. If someone types in Amdy Aledort, 5,000 videos pop up and none of them are your channel. Something is not right about that. Thank you for staying connected to your old fans and friends. Means a lot to me to know you're still well.
Thx so very much for the kind words BluesDoctor--we've got the website really happening now so i will be posting tons more videos here on TH-cam and on my website too--hope you dig them! Andy
Thx Joel glad you dig it-it is glorious! I bought it in ‘73-51 yrs ago! It’s been my main gtr all these years & everyone has played it: SRV, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, John Scofield, etc…
That thing has to be a monster of a player for it to look like that! She must sing like an angel, cuz it didn’t leave your hands for a long time. You’ve damn near worn thru the pickguard!lol BTW, thank you, Andy, for teaching many of us guitar thru the Guitar World magazine. I remember learning many things from you in the aughts when I was learning how to play!
Great to hear-yes it is a killer & everyone loved it-Stevie would always sit & play it when we’d get together & he said to me, “I still love your guitar!”
Love the caged shapes.it does make guitar so much funner.its kinda like Franklin's tower.just a different key.same progression.that blue sky solo is probably my favorite of all time..
Thanks for the great video Andy! Nice to see you on the tube. I purchased several of your DVD's in the past and look forward to following you on the 'tube!!
Watching on my phone and it looks like holes are drilled straight through the neck of that guitar at the fifth and seventh fret. Anyway, good lesson, I’ll check it out.
I sure have a lot of your Allman Brothers Band/ Dickey Betts lessons from over the years. I admire the great musician Dickey was and also how he and Les Paul were fans of one another. R.I.P. Dickey Betts. 🙏🏼🎸✌️
Amen RIP DB Thank you. Blue Sky came out when I was in high school/ loved the Allman Bro. Dickie adding more than folks will ever know. After Duane died of motorcycle age 24 DB carried the band with Greg .❤
Andy i remember you did a complete video series on correctly playing Jimi … where is it? How can i fetch a copy? I remember it was amazing! Your amazing… thanks

I just stumbled across this video. First, i love that Strat 😳 and that tone. Is that just a clean channel? It sounds like a clean channel on a tubed amp with some semblance of gain. 😢 I miss my old Princeton tube amp that some piece of 💩 stole from me.
@@AndyAledort777I appreciate all you do and your response. But don't you think you might have mentioned that? Many less experienced players look up to you and are trying to probably learn the song for the first time. And their ear is not developed yet to know right from wrong. And here you are teaching possibly the most basic of all ABB jam songs wrong.
@@douginny yeah I’m with you. It’s my all-time favorite tune, and I played a hell out of it. And I’m like wait this is wrong. Oh, it’s some weird dickie extra cord added.
@@johnmcelhaney8490 I’m not, I’m playing a variation on “Blue Sky” that Betts always did when we played the song…thanks for the kind words & glad the lessons have been helpful to you!

Yes that’s absolutely right
Yeah, but he wasn’t really jamming in Franklin’s tower, as shown in this video he was just jamming on blue sky.
Andy Aledort basically taught me how to play.
Thx mma very much appreciated! I’m glad the lessons have helped you out so much over the years

Sorry To hear about Dickey today Andy, seen you play with him a few times
Same here. All the way back to Guitar for the Practicing Musician! One of my favorites!
Yeah. Me too. Jesse Gress, Wolf Marshall and Joe Gore were great also.
Same here! Studied his lessons and transcriptions from back in the 80's+.

Thx so very Jerry and great to hear from you--so glad those lessons were helpful to you--more videos on the way!
Andy listened to one of my songs and liked it!!!!
Do you know how flattering that is?!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Andy!

Which way did Dickey like to play it?…all of the above?
Dickey liked to add the D chord between the E and the A…
roll away the dew! sweet

😢 I miss my old Princeton tube amp that some piece of 💩 stole from me.
All these years I thought it was only E and A jam. And I played it last night. Was I wrong all these years?
It’s just an E-to-A jam on the record; when I played w/Betts, he added the D chord in between…

Great Guitar…Looks like the 7th fret dot missing??
Could be a good idea. If it’s on purpose. Stands out at a glance when your playing long nights and can use all the help you can get. Good catch. 🤙
Thanks andy, very groovy lesson !!!
Much thx Marcelo very glad you dig it! More on the way!
Hey Andy, I noticed I can strum electric guitar a lot better with #9 strings instead of #10's. What size do you use?
I’m looking for instructions in G, more suitable for my voice
I have a video called “Daily Practice: warm ups in G:” andyaledort.com/daily-practice-warm-ups-in-g/
what happened to the fret markers? lol
When your playing the basic chords are you playing with open strings after A
?
Do you mean after the A chord? I don’t believe I am using open strings with the A chord…
@AndyAledort777 ok thank you
Dot on seventh fret missing
Andy why you play fire on the mountain when I want to almond? P.S. I think you are an amazing player and teacher.
@@johnmcelhaney8490 I’m not, I’m playing a variation on “Blue Sky” that Betts always did when we played the song…thanks for the kind words & glad the lessons have been helpful to you!
To me it always sounded like Roll away !
Dickey based that into on “Franklin’s;” added it to the song the night they heard that Jerry had passed…
@@AndyAledort777wow, that is interesting indeed.
Where’s my Strat !! 👀🤙
That missing clay dot marker bugs the hell outta me
Been doing really good with these online lessons lately but this one not so much. Frustrating I guess it's just not for me.
If that guitar ever gets stolen I could pick it out of a line up
Replace that missing fret dot!
Lola! lol
fix that missing dot bro
