Dickey Betts is without question one of my biggest influences, my first band was an Allman Brother cover band. So to see this lesson and tribute on your Wide Sky is amazing and bittersweet. Great lesson as always!
Dickey Betts was a legend... In my opinion a great guitarist, musician or band has a sound unique unto them. Dickey had that in spades. Plus he was just a badass outlaw kind of guy they don't make anymore. RIP

Joey, ( chewy) played Betts to the T, when I do copy I believe it should be EXACTLY THE WAY THEY PLAYED IT.

I grew up and attended High School in Atlanta in 69-73, when Alman Bros. would jam & practice at Piedmont Park.
Those were the days. Easy living, excellent music.

I grew up in JAx and was studying for my Bar Mitzvah in the synagogue (now converted to condos) across the street from the house where the band first got together. A few years later, my garage band was mostly AB stuff.

Excellent video. You really capture the Dickey Betts sound, thank you for compiling this info. The timing you mention at 10:30 isn’t really “playing ahead of the beat”, but rather a “3 on 2” pattern, that gives it that feel. That is: Dickey is playing a perfectly-timed 2 notes for every 3 beats.

Just wanted to add...
Btw folks, I've started using VLC's record feature to break these lessons into small blocks ( I download them first as mpgs. )...saves searching for the same spots over and over, plus his method of teaching is perfectly suited to this. I end up with a folder of around 8 chunks that make up the whole lesson. Just a quirk of mine, but I find it much easier in the end, and can easily go back over spots i need to work on. Also the fact that Brian starts over from the beginning many times during a lesson is a huge help keeping it all in context. Many web teachers don't do this nearly enough. As usual Brian, a big thanks.

What setting do you use to get that Allman Brothers sound.
Same setting I use every week more or less - amp with a little over drive and reverb. Emulated amp for recording purposes via a Line 6 Helix
