I love your videos you have Bob Ross'esque type of personality and (when) blending lightly = a few hairs(of the brush) and some air

    AMAZING!!
I learned so much more about perspective, depth, and placement of objects just by watching your video. Seeing you work did me a world of good. Learned far more watching you than anything I ever learned in (primary school) art classes.
This video is truly insightful. I am just now finding this video 1 year after you first posted it. This video also, for me, answers a long standing question which was is it ever possible to make an acrylic painting look realistic? You see in my mind I have always thought of acrylic paintings as being something akin to 'crayola' for canvas. That is to say acrylic works never appealed to me very much. I guess that is b/c I like realistic works. I've just never before been 'treated' to being able to see a realistic acrylic piece of work. Portraits in particular are my favorite realistic pieces of artwork. Watching your video has finally answered a long standing question that I have always had which is, is it ever possible to create an acrylic work of art and have it look just as realistic as work done with oil paints. After watching your creation here, I think you have beautifully and masterfully answered that question for me.
The only comment I would make is next time you show your paint tubes could you either make your paint tube shots as enlarged stills, hold them in front of the camera for just a bit longer, OR type them across the bottom of the screen. Outside of that I think this was an absolutely fantastic video. Glad I found your channel :) .
Thanks for sharing and Thanks for teaching.

How do you keep your acrylics from drying so long? You do beautiful wet on wet blending with the fluffy brush. But my acrylics dry almost as soon as they get down on canvas and I end upmhaving to dry brush the blending which isn’t nearly as smooth looking.

Mix your acrylics with a bit of water on a pallet before adding them to the canvas. Alternatively you can use a medium.

A lot depends on temperature and humidity in your studio/ workspace. Also no two brands act the same, even different colours in the same brand. I find a very fine mist sprayed lightly over the palette extends drying time, but as has been said, keep going and you will learn by your own experience - enjoy, this is good stuff and such a relaxed delivery!

I just subscribed! Great video! How did you get the acrylic paint to not dry so quickly? Whenever I use acrylics, They dry in literally a few minutes (even on my palette) and blending or painting any thing large is a giant nightmare. Cheers!

      @maggs131 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There are additives to slow acrylic paint from drying so fast and as for your palette, there are ones known as "stay wet palettes " that use a spongy material that you have to get wet and placed under a porous paper that the paint is placed on and mixed. Some even have a lid to keep paints wet for a few days

Oh and just in case you still are wondering they are called sails. The sail boat is indeed named after it's giant white blankets. Keep up the good work my man.

Beautiful work. Can't expect an artist to know everything about sailboats anyway! Just for the record, you drew a square rigged sailboat and put middle east lateen sails on it.
A few square sails would have made it just as beautiful, if not more so, also a few more jibs sails on the bowsprit. Just nitpicking, love your video, have watched it several times now.
If I try to do this, I would also add an anchor on the bow. I was very impressed with how you made the sky come alive, with all the blending and colors! Genius!

I would have stopped at the sky and sea and hung that on my wall with "great" pride. To suddenly paint BLACK LINES for the ship, now that takes a lot more courage than I could muster. But I'm going to have a go ! The "only mistake" was "BANKETS" !!!!! think you'll find, they called SAILS !! Gottcha !! Ha ha :) Thanks again bro. I'm 69....never too old to learn. Thanks again. (blankets) !! :) ;)

I have two questions: how is this canvas prepared and how can u keep those colors so wet on the canvas in order to blend it (like at the beginning of the video)?

Same here, he says "now blend it" and my colours are completely dry. I don't get it :(

Well done dude... Oh and the "blanket" is called SAIL, as simple as that: the sails of a sailing ship.

Absolutely unbelievable! I've never seen anyone paint with a mop style brush with acrylics before. I can see how a heavy bodied paint would be an advantage. But many of my paints are not heavy bodied acrylics. Have you ever tried using this method with regular acrylics as opposed to the heavy bodied paints?

Do you think watercolour will work with it or acyclic paint would be better?

    • @-hairsprayqueen-676
      @-hairsprayqueen-676 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

OzdericiMehmet you could use watercolour but use gouache for the opaque/dark parts (like black)

It is so cute that when you finally got to the sailboat, you called the sails blankets. I have problems with my speech so I love it when others struggle to remember a word.

I really like this painting. One reason is that it reminds me of my grandfather who came to America from Germany. His trade was making sails and items pertaining to sailing as well as awnings. Sailing was a big part of our family’s life. He passed in 1968 when his younger son was in Denmark with the other crew members celebrating winning their Gold Metal in the Olympics for sailing. This was a bitter-sweet year for the family. My grandfather was so proud of his son. We are glade he lived to see his son and the other young men be awarded the Gold Metal!
