REFRAMING 4:3 GoPro HERO10 Footage To 16:9 | Final Cut Pro TUTORIAL

  • *My example footage in this video is 5K30 4:3 not 5.3K30 4:3 as I accidentally stated. 5.3K30 would be a 16:9 ratio not 4:3. 5K30 and 4K60 are the high resolution 4:3 aspect ratios the GoPro HERO10 Black offers.*
    REFRAMING 4:3 GoPro HERO10 Footage To 16:9 | Final Cut Pro TUTORIAL
    In this tutorial video I talk about the reasons for using a 4:3 resolution mode and how to dynamically stretch or reframe those 4:3 clips into a widescreen or 16:9 timeline in Final Cut Pro. My example footage in this video is filmed with the GoPro Hero 10 Black in 5K30 4:3 and extra GoPro clips with some filmed in 4K60 4:3 resolutions.
    The plug-in used for Final Cut Pro is a free plug-in from FX Factory called Andy's Elastic Aspect Classic. This is a fantastic plug-in for reframing your GoPro footage that is filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio.
    FX Factory Download Here: fxfactory.com/
    Using the 4:3 resolution modes on your GoPro Hero 10 not only allows you to use the highest resolution on the camera being 5K30 4:3 but also allows you to use the full frame of the GoPro. This means that there is more top and bottom of the clip. When stretched or reframed properly to 16:9 using this plug-in can give you more view and a much more immersive clip especially for those POV clips.
    Watch in 4K and enjoy!

    Hello,
    New subscriber here. Found your video as I was looking for a way "modernize" some old MGM cartoons. Your method looks to be most simple way to do it and honestly, the results look waaay better than other methods I've seen so far. Thank you for a great video and for educating me on this. can you do something similar for the new hero 11 8:7 aspect ratio

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can! Just the amount you scale the Y-Axis to on your clip before adding the plug-in is different. I can’t remember what it is off the top of my head.

  • @droningjudah
    @droningjudah ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honest question. With the new 8x7 on the 11, would you recommend still using 4x3 due to it using the full sensor?

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would recommend using the 8:7 for anything pov due to 8:7 actually being the size of the new full sensor on the 11! Stretching it is the same concept you just have to squeeze the y-axis more in post. Or you can have the GoPro quik app reframe it how you like as well.

  • @Xpressv

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t mess with the 4K resolution much my opinion. Maybe the edges a little bit but honestly if you are dropping a 4K clip into a 1080p timeline the resolution will be rock solid.

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually haven’t compared the 2 in awhile but if I remember correctly there’s less distortion and a higher resolution with 4:3 just because you are using the full sensor of the GoPro. Also theres more flexibility in post using 4:3. To be completely honest use whatever suites you best!

    • @CorbinBlanton
      @CorbinBlanton  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quality is better when shooting in 4:3 due to something called LTM or local tone mapping that’s available in certain modes such as 4:3. LTM is a process where details are brought out in the video so yes shooting 4:3 will have the same quality as 16:9 or better

      @CorbinBlanton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it does not….to make things easier at first you should shoot everything in 16:9 especially if you don’t want to edit anything. Filming in 4:3 mode just allows you to get the highest quality possible out of the GoPro and give you the same 16:9 view but with more top and bottom.
