Two things confused me greatly as a young fledgeling dci fan/snare drummer back a number of years ago: 1) I hadn't yet grasped that sometimes music changes as a season goes on and that there are two versions of the snare break featured in this video; the earlier season one that Matt teaches us, and the finals version also heard here in the example footages, so that confused me like "what huh how come it's different sometimes???" and 2) when he said "That's our snarebreak in Summer of 77," I didn't realize that the piece they were playing in that part of their show was called "Summer of 77" and I thought that he was teaching us the BD snare break from 1977, but then why does the footage of the line playing it look so recent. I know now the error of my thinking, and realize I might have been stupid, but still funny to recall.
Lol, great video but the reference videos they use often have two different versions of the same lick. Probably an earlier season lick and a revised lick later in the summer.
when i first got it down, i played it on an actual snare (i was practicing on a practice pad) and i smacked my thumb hella hard. i got a blood bubble and a really bad bruise
back in highschool we had a similar ending to a piece and i had my hand over just to far and wacked the absolute hell out of it, black and blue for almost a month and had to keep it wrapped
Approaching the finals, they took out the isolated cheese four. More than likely because it was too hard to clean, and you get the same rhythmic affect by just doing two isolated diddles. Definitely challenging. But challenging is always what wins. Nor is it always what sounds best
Hello, how are you. I'm from Brazil and wanted to know how to study snare drum, how old is it usually started, how many hours a day, is there a method of study, a score, the person doing private lessons and how many years studying to reach that level, playing well?
You can start at any age. First step is you want to learn your rudiments backwards and forward, make them as clean and effortless as possible at any speed (practice with a metronome always!). Take advantage of TH-cam, there are some actually good tutorials on here. A good instructor would be the best way to go forward for sure though. The amount of time you spend practicing is almost not as important as how smart you practice. You truly will get out of it what you put into it. Hope this helps
I almost had it down, then he started playing

FloMarching break it down before FloMarching break it down.

Imagine wacking your hand on that last rimshot.

You guys should do more videos like this! Its cool to see how they progressed throughout the season and its also cool to learn some stuff ;)
0:13 description of every bd snare break 🗿
You kids are so spoiled with awesome resources like this. Growing up we had to be lucky to meet talented drummers.
@@nathanglen9568 aye chill bruh
@@nathanglen9568 hahaha

Summer '20 - blown away. What was Matt's nickname while center snare at BD? The Terminator ?? Dude is nails!
Anyone have the transcription the one he's playing and not the one on snare science?
awesome! i can always pick up something way quicker watching it a bar at a time like that rather than purely reading it
Lol Missed the rim shot at the end lol it kinda ruined the effect of him playing such an insanely hard passage.
But this guy totally played it off :)
Mallets for dayz it’s actually the compressor on the mic is too high.

this break made me pregnant
They’re so damn good
oh my god that's clean
wish he coulda gone slower
Gabe Grau what's confusing about it? He breaks it all down
ThunderAnt perhaps sheet music would help
ThunderAnt plus, he kept on going full speed which doesn't help the less experienced drummers
Joseph Jang yes
If you click the three dots in the corner then click playback speed you can close it down

He passed away. RIP
Matt keown? Cause no he did not
He's my instructor from drum camp
No he didn’t.
"So clean" I said that like 8 times
DRT Danny Seriously?
Every single rep of the full line they showed had a ton of dirt.
The guys on the ends are dragging their rolls
I learned it and transcribed it
May I have them sheets?
I would love to see the sheet music
lol this is really late for about 2 years same as the guy above me but could i get that sheet music? my email is jojodecarlos@gmail.com if you could
He shows it with buzzes in the 2nd-3rd measure but at the end they show it with changes.. hmm 🤔
**double stopss

Chase Rogers
There is no tenor part. It's a snare break
Which year is this?
2011
Does anyone have the video from 0:56
nope
0:11 dirty rimshot?
What year is this
1977 duh
How much indiscriminate and rampant banging goes on every Summer in DCI?!
Riiiiing
What are "tap fives".
I'm thinking they're five stroke rolls with an accent on the first note. Don't quote me on that tho.
They are triplets with an accent on the first partial and then diddle taps on the second and third partial. Hope this helped.
***** Yeah I'm not too much of a snare person lol. I'm more of a set person so I don't know too much about rudimental percussion.
+TSFLYER4 haha all good man just like how I can't play the coordinate my feet with the bass drum and hands with hi hat, toms and snare on a kit
***** Yeah limb independence is super hard but super satisfying once you get it down
what sticks
mapex
Promark System Blue DC17 “Scojo”
Can some please Transcribe thisss
+Marlon Harris It's already broken down... Just pay attention...
+Marlon Harris If it's easier for you to memorize it on paper though you can always break it down and transcribe it yourself.
Try going to snarescience.com it has a lot more just go to dci music on that website.
+Virtual Crypt snare science doesn't have the one he's playing
Marlon Harris - It's been transcribed on SnareScience now but the transcription isn't perfect. It will get you close though
some notation would be killer
wow their drum break are boring as hell. clean as hell, but it's literally just diddle with a couple flams and 2 buzzes.
what year was this?
+8Keep 2011
