    Reggie's old camper furnace was having issues. The pilot light would light, but would go out after a few cycles. After checking a few items, we finally solved this mystery!

    Im so happy that you showed the pilot window. I've been looking and looking on mine and couldn't see a window. I never would have figured it was a super small hole.

    Great troubleshooting video, Rande. Keeping a clean orifice is the key to so many things in life.

    We just bought a 1982 Prowler and everything's great except the furnace. I've been watching this video because this furnace looks just like ours. We are down to cleaning the orifice after moving the thermostat (wires in wall so we couldn't fix them so we cut them and moved it), found out what that black button thingy is because of this video. Know where to look to see if pilot is lit thanks to this video. Know you start blower up then light pilot thanks to this video. At this point, even if we're not able to fix it, thanks for the video! Will report back.

    Glad it was a rather simple fix and you only had to throw a handful of new parts at it 😁 Now that Reggie had heat, we’re ready for summer 😂 Congrats on 2K 👍

      Thanks Dave. You'd be surprised at how many summer nights you need heat around here when camping. There might be two months out of the year that your good without a furnace.

    I too have the same issues & after spending the day tearing out the unit, cleaning & lube the motor shaft, bench testing sail switch, thermo coupling I was still @ a loss of pilot after one or 2 heat cycles. As I watched your awesome hands on process of elimination, I did not think of using a torch tip cleaner in the feed pipe holder & flame deflector for thermo coupler as you did & apparently & finally solved the issue. I had only disconnected the pipe & smell for propane @ the pipe opening. "which I did". I will surely solve this thanks to you !!

      Hi Rick. I'm so glad to hear that this video was helpful. I know I've been frustrated in the past trying to solve similar problems and it helps to watch some else doing the same thing. It took a while to find the actual problem, but I'm glad we did.

      @@GoMidwestFishing I too have the EXACT same Hydro Flame and issue with it blowing out after a couple cycles. I already tried the thermocouple long ago. Thanks for this information. I'll tear it back apart and see if mine is also corroded like that. Again, thanks!👍

    At least you're able to pull out all the components for a look see..... The repair turned out to be reel simple and with replacing the parts the heater now has a second lifespan!!

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even though we bought some unnecessary parts, its still cheaper than having someone else do it. Plus its kind of rewarding when you finally get it right!

    Very helpful and informative video. I'm having an issue where my burner won't ignite from the sparker (I've even tried sticking a flame in there). We did confirm that the orifice was putting out propane and were able to get that to light without the burner, but with the burner on, it won't light. Wondering if anyone else had had this problem?

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ben. Have you checked to see if any bugs have gotten in there? I did some troubleshooting my newer furnace that wouldn't ignite and found it was packed with beetles. See it here: th-cam.com/video/nAISOwoAIls/w-d-xo.html go to 13:47 to see how bugs got in there.

    Thank you so much for the video and the manual. I have one just like it and have been bringing it back to life.
    Question: After I cleaned everything out and all of the carbon in the heater tubes from all of the insect nests that were in there, I still get a smell that is mostly like the exhaust smell from the outside. Do you get this smell at all on the inside of the truck camper? The heater works like a champ but I don't want to be all nice and warm and die of exhaust poisoning. Thanks!

      @@GoMidwestFishing Can I get the same info? I have the same problem with the pilot staying lit but also get CO in the camper. I'm thinking I may need to inspect the full exhaust area?

    Hello, great video, thank you very much... I have same kind of vintage rv furnase, which have same issue you had. Can a faulty thermocouple can still work (mine will shut down several times, to finally work (heat up) normally. I have to re-light several time before it finally stay light, but since it work, I was wondering if it mean thermocouple is not the culprint ???

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard. Its possible it could be something else. Thermocouples are fairly cheap and easy to replace, so it would be a good place to start. If you still have problems, then I would start looking for other solutions. Bugs love to make homes in these furnaces, so also check to see if it has any blockages due to bugs.

    Are you aware of a replacement TStat that will go down to at leadt 40degF or lower? It is a Hydroflame Atwood furmace that uses 2 wires. an the existing TStat be rigged to go lower somehow?

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JPaul53. I'm not sure if they make ones specifically for campers, but they do make ones that go to 35 degrees. See it here: amzn.to/3h0ZIa9 I see they sell the same one at home depot as well. It says its for a 24 volt system, but from what I've read, it should work on a 12 volt system too. It would be worth a shot.

    Mines a direct spark that tries to ignite 3 or 4 times before it stops. I can see the flame each time it tries but it doesn’t stay lit.

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The fact that you get a flame, but it doesn't stay lit, kind of sounds like its not getting enough gas, or maybe its got some debris in there. I had problems with a newer furnace with direct spark that did the same thing. It was filled with beetles. I have a video on that one too: th-cam.com/video/nAISOwoAIls/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HbLoc2Xpu93CqnbG
