Cambridge NASB Topaz in Brown Calf Split Leather - Review

  • Cambridge has just released their Topaz setting in the 2020 NASB. Unlike most NASBs, the Topaz follows a strict verse-by-verse layout. It's available in several covers including black, dark blue, or dark green goatskin and black or dark brown calf-split. I'm reviewing the dark brown calf-split, ISBN 9781009415309, model NS674:XR, made in the Netherlands by Royal Jongbleod, and designed and typeset by 2K/Denmark.

      I'm enjoying the NASB 2020 immensely. I have a Lockman, but I want to get a Topaz as soon as I can save up for one.

      It is. I'm using it now as my main translation. I have the Lockman NASB 2020 Wide Margin Reference, and its also a great typesetting, but as soon as I can save up a bit, I do want to get this Topaz.

    Wish those references were in the gutter and the text moved over to the outside. Personal preference 🙂 Looks like wonderful paper.

    Good review. Randy. Thank you. Like you, I really like the calf split bindings from Cambridge. The leather is firm, but softens with use. I have a Topaz ESV is blue goatskin which is a beautiful Bible, but a bit too floppy for my liking. It is quite likely that I will purchase this new NASB2020 in the brown calf split. How do you feel it compares to the Humble Lamb HIStory NASB2020?

  • @Tax_Buster
    @Tax_Buster 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Could you please compare it with the Lockman NASB2020 LPUT, both the Prime and Calfskin?

      Yes. I have another Topaz review coming and I'll be sure to include these. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Is calf-split less durable in theory? I actually like it better because it is more form in my hand and I like the "rough" feel.

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is less durable because it is the bottom half of the leather that's been split. Search for splitting leather and you'll see what I mean.

    I hope to get one of these very soon. Does anyone know how durable Cambridge calf split is?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's highly durrable. My Concord shows some light wear, but it's mostly from scratches where I rubbed it against my steering wheel when reading in the car.

    Not a huge fan of the layout. The references are fully in the way and seem hard to work around if you are inclined to mark in your Bible. I would prefer references in the center column or at the bottom (for double column) Inside column for single column text. This layout can work with a single column text too. Granted my preferences are just that, mine. What I am wondering is who asked for this?

    • @exagem
      @exagem 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personal preference- center column reference is far too claustrophobic for me

      Have a look at the Lockman NASB 2020 Wide Margin Reference. It has the references and translation notes at the bottom of the page, and the text is a very nice single column.

    Honestly, it's not worth the money. The Lockman bibles in both 95 and 20 are better value and are of high quality. The quality of non premium bibles have significantly improved and caught up to the big boys without the high price tag. Ultimately these calfskin cambridge bibles are this price because of the brand name. I look for high quality and importantly, value for money. God bless

      I would have to agree, I think Cambridge may be pricing themselves out of the market.
