- Solar panels sit on the roof of a run-down home on a dirt road in South Oroville. A salesperson somehow got the 91-year-old woman who lived there to finance the $35,000+ project that she'd pay off when she turned 114. Phyllis Simmons died months after the solar panels were installed.
The CEO and others in that company need prison time!

Thats been going on for almost as long as the customer getting scammed, its just much harder to believe the person who is allegedly profiting off another's scam. He must have some actual credible evidence for his name to have been dropped from that case, because under the bus he would have been otherwise.

I have a 20 year lifespan of working at 90% to 100% efficiency. After that they continue to work they just aren't guaranteed to make 90 to 100% efficiency. Trust me if somebody showed you the inflation projection of your electric bill, you would get solar panels right away

I’m so sick of solar people calling me everyday and coming to my home at least once a week! I can’t stand them!! They always say they’re from “PG&E.” They say they work for our local gas and electric company, which is totally false!! How can we report them?? I did door to door sales with AT&T years ago and we would always identify ourselves right away. We were much more professional than any solar reps I’ve ever met!!

i had a solar company estimate a solar installation at more than 50000 dollars for a tiny flat roof in NYC. It would end up being more expensive than my electricity bill. I will watch and wait until it becomes cheaper to install.
It takes 2 decades to pay off the solar . People would think energy sector would be a little better at paying people vs having them finance it for 20+ years until you see a return

The problem with solar as a whole is it’s a whole new bill, and you can’t stop paying your electric bill. So solar unfortunately is pointless due to the companies not allowing you to own the panels outright. It’s really a scam that doesn’t solve any problems because you are not permitted to actually own the panels, otherwise solar energy would be the future for how most of us get energy, and of course still paying the electric bill. Just remember that, if you get solar, all you’re doing is locking yourself into another bill and a contract that you can’t get out of, once again mentioning you can’t cancel your electric bill.
I personally feel that zero tax dollars should go towards residential solar. I believe that the money is better spent on commercial projects with batteries which will in the long run benefit everyone.

Whenever you DocuSign something , they immediately send you a confirmation email (at least that is my experience), so it should be possible to know who is involved in the scam.
@@stevelacombe5291 perhaps some people don’t check their emails that often or can’t tell which emails are red flags vs not. I’ve personally seen this with my mom who’s not very computer savvy and has limited English proficiency

If you didn’t call a solar, windows, housekeeping, HVAC, landscaping, etc… sales rep out for an estimate, NEVER let them or any other stranger into your house. These frauds take years to unravel and when they’re cornered they’ll file for bankruptcy or disappear.
Never open the door for uninvited strangers. The foreign criminals are non stop in some areas.

I did a cost analysis on solar panels. I wouldn't break even until seventeen years passed. By then, they would most likely need to be replaced.

Yeah honestly I put up 2kw of panels ground mounted and have 10kwh of 48v batteries, all self built and installed for 5k dollars....even in my case it will end up taking 10yrs to just break even....and that is only if nothing breaks or fails....already seeing signs my inverter a 3kw Growatt inverter will more than likely not make it 10yrs.
This is the reason why I'm hesitant to install solar panels in my home. This industry is currently under-regulated, and pretty much a free-for-all.

I’m an ex solar sales person. I have sold an 83 year old person, solar panels, but their son was totally present during the process. Solar does save you money over a period of time depending on your situation. It can also increase the value of your home. and make it sell a lot faster. there are some bad actors out there. But that’s in every industry.

I met with a couple solar companies and quickly realized it’s the modern day version of a telemarketing sweatshop talking people into buying years worth of magazines. Solar quotes were 28k and I would pay off the loan at the same amount as my average power bill, maybe a little less. I’ll never go solar as long as the system is absurdly expensive. Also the government needs to develop programs to roll out solar nationwide and rebalance the grid.

Check the domain name registry for solar panels, they change every 3 or 4 years to avoid insurance and lawsuit cases involving roof leaks. Insurance companies try splitting 50 50 responsibility between roofers and solar panel companies for repairs. You need to install them on free stands in the yard, not a roof that needs to be accessed for inspections and repairs.
Window Replacement companies, roofing, solar, etc they market to the Senior citizens and then get there slick sales people in the home and after hours of "Presentation" They get a sell from and elderly person that doesn't know better. There told by the sales people they don't need multipe bids. you have to buy TONIGHT or you don't get the special price etc etc etc. Something needs to be done to stop the predatory behaviour.

I need one for my elderly uncle. This happened to him and they installed the solar on top of a rolled out roof covering the very old roof! Solar panels will outlive both the roof and my poor uncle! I’m livid and don’t know where to start

A reputable company will not install panels on a roof in that tertible condition. In fact even if the roof is halfway decent they'll make you reroof before they install panels

I have never understood how docusign, which is a computer-generated signature, can be used as legal proof of a person signing a contract? Isn't a signature pen to paper physically?
There is a federal law that permits basically anything that you intend to be your signature to be legally sufficient for a contract. Checking a box, clicking a button, scribbling your name, etc.
The same thing happened in the world of notaries, and this is what caused the help of the collapse of the housing industry a few years back. People were using other peoples' notary stamps and signing and stamping away on bad and fraudulent transactions

There should be jail time attached to these types of crimes if there isn't already. Many corporate entities are doing everything they can to be in a position to put a lien on privately held real estate and elderly people are the prime targets in these schemes. Congress needs to legislate strong controls and penalties on this type of elder abuse and real estate theft. It's just another attempt to concentrate all the wealth of the country in a few hands. Slimy and disgusting criminality.

If you’re asserting they are a scam, you have the burden of proof to demonstrate that to be the case.
Just like if you assert Big Foot exists, you’d own the burden of proof. And you wouldn’t be able to meet it.

Some of these solar companies want you to do using a bunch of loan docs just to get an estimate. Sun run through Costco wanted me to docusign a bunch of documents just to get a price estimate and have some contractor to come to my house to check my panel to see if they could install panels. I told them no after they started getting pushy. Cancel all the consultation. Why am I signing anything just to get a price?
