“Someone like me can be a real nightmare completely aware. But I’d rather be a nightmare than die unaware” means activists get called nightmare women that no one wants to be with in many men’s eyes because they are aware and fighting the systemic issues in society. Id rather die than be unaware that there is a huge problem basically. I love that line so much. So powerful.
Such a great one. Feminism is wanting men and women to be equal. Some people think if you’re a feminist that you think women can’t be stay at home moms and be “housewives” but that’s not feminism. Feminism is wanting the freedom for women to choose if they want that or not. ❤❤
When Halsey performs this live all year she had a moment of silence during the song where the music continued with no words and on the screens were statistics on abortion and how the majority of people agree we should have that right for women to control our own bodies and not be forced into unwanted or unsafe pregnancies. The stats showed that the majority of abortions happened for people who are already mothers. This song is about women’s equality and the strength to have as much control over our own bodies as men have over theirs.
This video is a commentary on how women are viewed and treated in society (in general, but particularly under a patriarchal lens) and women saying "No. I'm not going to conform to that". There's lines that talk about societal beauty standards for women and women's rights over their own bodies. As well as lines that are repeated that say " 'Come on, little lady, give us a smile' No, I ain't got nothin' to smile about"; women often get told in their daily lives (often by men) 'oh you should smile more' 'why do you look so mad' 'smile for me sweetheart' and more things to that affect, and Halsey is saying, 'No. I'm not going to do that, but you want a smile? Here I'll show you my teeth instead'. In the chorus she says "I gotta recognize the weapon in my mind", saying that women have the power/weapon to start fighting against these standards/demands, and it all starts in their head by recognizing what's happening and actively choosing not to go along with it. That's why she goes on to say "Someone like me can be a real nightmare, completely aware", as women who choose to speak out against these standards are often called a "nightmare" (to work with, deal with etc.). And then she ends the song with "I'm no sweet dream" (pleasant/ideal fantasy/standard), "but I'm a hell of a night". And yes, there were several famous women in this video. The one you scrolled back to was Cara Delevingne; Debbie Harry, Ryan Destiny and Suki Waterhouse were also in this video.
Halsey is one of my favorite artists! And my celebrity crush lol, Could you react to more Halsey songs!? These for example; 1. Bad at love 2. 11 minute with yungblood 3. Be kind 4. So good 5. Without me 6. Closer with chainsmokers
