I'm having the exact same prb with my sons 2007 Chevy cobalt every time we take it for a ride we just say a little prayer that the AC will work, some days it works other days it does not. I'll be checking this part for sure now thanks for sharing!!
I found the problem. If you remove the panel on the driver side near your right foot abd look under you will see two actuators. The one on the top controls moving air from vent, to defrost, to feet. The actuator on the bottom controls the blend door specifically for hot and cold air. After removing the bottom actuator, you may find as I did, that the long plastic rod that is part of that blend door, and connects to the hole on the actuator, is twisted and broken off. My fix for this was a vehicle rubber hose and crazy glue to reconnect both pieces. It was not easy but it worked and I didn't have to remove anything but the actuator.
A/C was working before the alternator bit the dust. Installed used, now car whines when it hadn't before...and A/C doesn't blow cold. Lights light up, inside. Haven't tested relay, but red fuse looks okay. Just no cold air...but the whining is annoying too.
I’ve got a 2009 Chevy cobalt. Only blows cold air and won’t blow any hot air. I’ve changed the thermostat and the blend door actuator on the passenger side and it still won’t work. Any ideas what it could be
The problem I'm having is my cold to hot knob does not change the temperture. It works sometimes and sometimes not. it's either stuck on blowing cold air even when turnes to how, or stuck on blowing hot air even when turnes to cold and the ac is on. The bend door appears to be opeaning and closing just fine. Any help or tips on what to check for would be greatly appreciated.
Im having the same issue with my cobalt it's stuck on heat actuator appears to be moving blend door to cold but stays hot. compressor is on and running I have a hunch the actuator internal gears might have failed
I bought a 2006 Chevy cobalt LS from a soldier on Fort Bragg I have noticed that the lights do not light up at all I do not get any cold air and I’m not getting any hot air during the winter what is your suggestion to fix this issue?
The probkem Im having, is that the fan won't work. For a long time, it would work on 1 2 and 3, but not 4. Now it will only work on 1 2 3 sometimes. Also, the knob will turn, but doesn't feel right.
The problem I'm having is the a/c runs when the knob is in the off position but shuts off when turned to 1, 2, 3, or 4. Also it blows like it's on 4. I have cold air.
So my issue is it works until I turn it to 4 then it shuts off, unless I push and hold it in HARD. Then it works, but the instant I let go it shuts off again. What do I do for this?
My snowflake will not come on at all unless i jam my leg into the center console, painfully. Any slight movement away from tons of pressure and it will go off. I've had this issue for so many years, it's made me hate my car. The blower also only work on 3 and 4
When I turn my ac on my colbalt it drops down 1 rpm and the car runs extremely rough when it’s on any idea on what that could be? I am thinking mayeb the blower motor or it’s low on refrigerant but now sure
My blower fan switch began acting up and stopped. All plugs to the blower, resistor and control heads showed power. Replaced the resistor and no change. Replaced the blower fan speed switch and again no change. Changed out the AC control head twice and still no AC blower. Any clues anyone?
Hey dude i love this video. But mines is a bit different, when i switch my knob to 1 2 3 or 4the compressor comes on but NO air comes out hot warm or cold. And sometimes i gotta touch the wires for the a.c. to start blowing. Help plz
What wires? If no air comes out. Try turning your ac on with it on any number and smacking the bottom of your blower motor. If the motor comes on then it means you have a bad blower motor. Try that and let me know.
Did u try to manipulate the wires to a posistion that the ac stays working? Maybe u can twist the harness like in the video. I also have been shown sometimes the femal side of the connectors can widen and not contact the pins good. Is it the type of connector that you can adjust the pin holes to make them smaller? Let me know if im not on track but i belive these would be things u can check if im understanding correctly.
Well man, maybe you can isolate the bad wire or the pin connection that is loose. I dont have anymore ideas for you. Let me know what you do though or if i can answer anymore questions.
My snowflake light comes on and my blower is working great but it’s only blowing hot air. Any suggestions? I’m going to tear the switch unit out to see if I can figure it out.
Angie Bowden I did not. But I did locate the problem. The vent door switch broke on the inside. I took it to a repair shop and no one knows how to fix it 😭
Yes you need a new switch relay I'll bet. Mine worked the exact same regardless of what setting it was on. You do NOT need to order an entire new face for the ac controller. You only need the new fuckin turning selector relay part that the dial plugs into. Here's the Amazon link. www.amazon.com/dp/B0026N32K4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_0-3DFb7JHK853 Here's also the selector switch dial. Mine was cracked & needed this replaced too. My stupid gf after the air wouldn't work kept turning the dial thinking it would magically "turn on better" & broke the fuckin thing. Dial selector www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z7MWNZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_3a4DFbCE3EGMN Hope this helps.
Oh. If you buy a switch relay know that replacing it you'll need special screwdriver, the hex type, to remove the 2 screws that hold it in place once you remove the ac face control unit. If your dial isn't cracked just pull off the old dial & reuse it. -MAKE SURE you look in the hole to see you removed the metal "D" shaped dial from the stem piece that the dial pushes in to. It always gets stuck in there for me. This piece shores up the dial "D" shaped plastic hole in the turning dial. So when it turns that metal stops the dial stem from cracking the dial "D" shaped housing hole. Don't do this step & try using the dial without the D metal piece & you'll absolutely crack the dial housing hole & you won't be gluing that shit back together cause it's a perfect fit. I've tried super glue etc & it won't hold the pressure of turning the dial with just plastic (hence why they used the metal D supporter clip thing). This might sound confusing but when you get in there you'll see exactly wtf I'm referring to lol when you come across it all.
that resistor works with earth. the connector mentioned in the video of 2 cables, one black and one brown. There is no kiss to change it. I will upload a video for those who like earrings
I was wondering about the fan knob itself. Mine is broken, do I just pull the knob off the vehicle at salvage yard, or do I need tools to take off the a/c fan speed knob?
The fan switch can be replaced from the back of the AC control unit. 2 screws. Remove the plastic trim, remove two screws holding the head in place, remove the two screws from the back and slowly lift out the switch and slide the new one in. Make certain that the knobs on both switches are on 0 and that nothing moves out of place.m
Was hoping it was another AC issue fix. My AC has been out over a year in the Florida heat. Don't want to pay $50 for the AC as I like to repair everything myself. This fix did not help.
My granddaughters 2006 Cobalt the blower speed switch turns on 1, 2 , 3 & 4. I don't notice significant difference in air movement between them. I don't hear any difference at all for the high 4 setting. What would you suggest could keep the 4 setting from blowing at high speed?
Sounds like when the AC compressor turns on it is just enough load to kill the engine. Does it idle rough when the A/c is off? It could be the idle needs to be higher rpm / healthy idle. Maybe there is a vacuum leak or the throttle plate is really dirty causing a weak idle.
For a while my 2005 Cobalt AC knob didn't blow on the 3rd setting--worked on the res, 1,2, and 4. Then it started working again, and has ever since. (short?). Mine has a weird problem--even when the AC is OFF, and you turn on the "recycle air" switch, it ALSO turns on the AC. None of my other cars ever did that. So if I just want to recycle air, if I get behind an oil-burner or something, I can't. I've always figured it was a wiring problem--now that I see this, I'm even more sure. Somehow my recycle button has been also wired into turning ON the AC.

Hola gracias queria preguntar si alguien sabe que pasa cuando el compresor del ac no arranca
What’s the blue insert where the blower motor is you point at it @ 4:26
It's the Blower Motor Resistor
I was wondering about the fan knob itself. Mine is broken, do I just pull the knob off the vehicle at salvage yard, or do I need tools to take off the a/c fan speed knob?
For just the fan knob, you just need to pull the knob off. I used pliers to give me a firmer grip.
The fan switch can be replaced from the back of the AC control unit. 2 screws.

Sounds like a blower motor. Try hitting / slapping the bottom of the blower motor under the passanger dash area
