You know this episode ends with him getting smashed and saving the band. The most development they have is him accepting that his brother is why he drinks.
The entire Pickles rehab rock opera is amazing. It not only sounds good and was nicely animated, but there's a lot of truth in what he has to say. One of the best parts for me is when the doctor starts talking about how the patients need to talk about the reasons they get high and the walls fall away to reveal a fiery pit that's supposed to be hell. For anyone with addictions or other mental issues, this is a great visual to explain the feeling. No one stuck in addiction or other damaging behavior finds any of it pleasant. As the doctor sings, Pickles sees flashes of his brother. He knows the reason he drinks, but he comes up with all these excuses to make it seem like he's just a cool guy who likes alcohol instead of being a guy who was hurt as a young child by his brother (and other family) and used it as an escape. Then the doctor and medical staff are shown with horns, to represent that they're seen as the villains, as part of the hell that Pickles must endure. In reality, they're trying to help him, but he sees them as bad for forcing him to stew in his hell. Then, when he reveals the reason he really drinks, the hell closes up. It's not just a brutal and awesome song with excellent visuals, it has a lot of meaning to it.
Gotta love how brutally honest these songs are. This show has a really lax tone most of the time. They treat death like it isn’t a big deal. The band members tend to be pathetic and petty about everything. *You don’t expect this kind of serious tone.* You might have even thought this sketch was meant to be played comedically at first, but a lot of people who have been through this probably caught on immediately to his withdrawals. Then the music actually starts to get epic. *You start to realize this is a real world problem.* Even a show like this knows how serious substance abuse is, despite constantly making a joke out of it. They know how to convey that feeling of torment when it really matters to the main cast themselves. We’ve been conditioned to relate to the band. *They’re talking to us in a way. That can be scary.* Childhood trauma can even go beyond the realm of substance abuse. Everyone has been through some kind of trauma or another, and suffer lifelong psychological issues as a result. This show has tackled or goes on to tackle these issues with the rest of the band as well. The heart of music is when it hits you deep and connects with you, and nothing is more metal than having to confront your darkest fears.
Brendon Small is a surprisingly awesome vocalist. This show, and the music, really impressed me the first time I watched this...its rare for a TV show to adopt a musical element, in fact I can't think of another show like this.

1:03- 1:13- I can't believed I just noticed this, but just as the doctor mentioned "The Cause for your (Pickles) abuse", you can see flashes of Seth's smug-prick mug looking at the screen.
I've been a daily drinker for the entire 13 years of my adult life. Like Pickles, I started drinking to cope with family trauma. I drank because the drink made me feel good, next thing I knew I couldn't feel good without the drink. Fast forward, then I just felt bad even when I was drinking but I had to drink like it was a daily obligation. Come 2020 people started noticing and commenting on my drinking. Early this year I got septic shock (got food poisoning while I was sick with pneumonia, can you believe that? haha) and almost kacked it for good. The doctor told me they could tell I was heavy drinker from my lab work and that my organs can't handle that kind of drinking and that if I continue drinking then it's highly unlikely I would fully recover. Then I thought of my dad who'd been hospitalized twice for alcohol abuse, once for poisoning when I was a kid, and a second time when I was an adult for full blown organ failure. I knew that could easily be me, so I accepted that I have a problem with alcohol and that I need help to quit drinking and stay sober. I called up a good friend and asked to be driven to an AA meeting the day after I was discharged from the hospital. I stuck with it, allowed myself to be coached, and now I've got 72 days - more than 2 solid months - of no booze! That's by far the longest period of time I've ever gone without a drink since I started at 17! It's not easy. I'm having ups and downs, I'm remember things I'd forgotten, changing old ideas about the world, and learning to reconnect with my inner self, all without my magic potion, and all while recovering from a deadly illness. But even when my head is on fire from an acute reaction to sobriety I have hope because of the genuine compassion and comradery of my loved ones who want to see me heal and from the complete strangers who welcomed me into the program of AA. There's even other metalheads in there! We recently listened to Thulcandra after a meeting.
I just really like the doctor in this. He's a man that cares about his patients and wants to help them. The doctor also has really good facial expressions. We see he's concern and he's anger born from concern for his patients. He also sees through Pickels's lies and excuses and confronts him with both facts and consequences if Pickels doesn't tell the truth behind his abusive drinking. After the confession the doctor put his hand on Pickels's shoulder as if to say he's proud of him about coming clean and taking a big step in recovering.
Love the detail of how, when the doctor speaks, you're quickly shown images of Pickle's brother that get more and more clear with each passing riff. Helps to really foreshadow the revelation in a way that's only really noticeable on a second viewing.

This episode was so frustrating watching Pickles chasing his brother to try to force him to accept his forgiveness. The only person Pickles really needed to forgive was himself, and to let Seth to kick rocks.
Yo, when that doctor starts hitting those notes... actually gives me chills. Not only is the music great but speaking from someone who's a recovering addict it all hits home.
This song is a masterpiece. Not only is it very entertaining, it also expertly represents the act of breaking through Pickles emotional layers and use of drugs until he reaches the brutal emotional truth. Still, he is a god of drinking so screw those doctors!
It's one thing to create a hit show, but to simultaneously create a kickass, catchy, uvula-abusing, sellable soundtrack is absolutely insane. This show is on a level so high, most people can't even see it. Brilliant. Brutal. Brilliantly brutal.
My favourite part is 1:27 If you don't tell me what I need to hear, You'll never get clean, You'll always live in fear, You'll never go home, You'll be replaced in your band, Do you know what I mean? Yes I understand! Fucking awesome melody to it.
Today is my 35th birthday, and I spent it accompanying a friend of mine whose mother is dying of cancer. No one rememberd my birthday, bu t I dont blame the cause everybody is fighting thei own battle. The first thin I did when I got home was get drunk and listen to Dethklok.
Any advice on where I could find more music like this: 00:50 - 01:38 ? Been listening to some other Brendon Small songs, but they are quite different. Thanks beforehand! :)
I've seen Pickles' brother and Pickles is right. He doesn't need forgiveness. He needs to launched into the sun tied to rocked while being stung by scorpions on his taint and having his eyes scooped out with a rusty spoon.
Obviously, the sobriety didn't last long--but I'm glad that he went through some form of therapy, temporarily at least. It's good for people. He found out so much about himself--namely, how his brother screwed him over from the start, and how his family always took his side. When he finally moved past it, it was an amazing instance of character development.
I feel like it was a silly but important revelation for Pickles, cuz now he doesn't get drunk to cope with his trauma- he *chooses* to get drunk, and the literal first thing he does when he gets drunk is save his friends. And given that it was the first time he's ever had booze *without* it being to cope with what his brother did to him, I can only imagine that first sip probably felt like he was having his first drink ever in a way. The first drink without all the baggage that was once associated with it.
As someone currently doing practicum at a rehab facility; I can honestly say that Pickle’s behavior is pretty accurate for some of the more problematic alcoholics. Thankfully we have yet to have someone “spitting on dicks and starting fights”. They are incredibly verbally aggressive though.
This was always the best scene in the show, stg. Pickles assumes that he's in hell and being punished for eternity by demons, but in reality, he's in purgatory, enduring temporary flames of purification to understand the underlying cause of his deeds.
This rehab scene is amazing and powerful even though it's humorous it really digs deep into the heart of what it's like with addiction and mental illness and the challenges to overcome it. And then we have people like pickles who get to the root and still stuck at the forgiveness stage "....no" lol but also I love how at :55-1:13 you get glimpses of the root of his issue. Showing how they root sticks to you like a ghost
I love that as the doctor gets more into his part of the song the picture of Seth gets clearer each time he says something showing that he's really getting through to Pickles.

Oh rehab sucks I wanna run away But those doctors Are making me stay And they say: We've got several steps You need to complete So you can get clean Get back on your feet I don't need this I don't need your fucking help You are all stupid idiots You can all go to hell Shock 'em now! There is no escape Same goes for all of you Until I let you out of this place Now you all have problems That's the truth You're narcissistic parasites But we can save you But you've got to tell us why All the reasons you got high The reason that you used The cause for your abuse If we could find out why Yeah we could treat you inside Oh the action we'll take Oooh the way you'll be saved Why did you drink? I drink because it's cool! Oh why did you drink? I drink because it tastes good! Why did you abuse? I really like the flavor! That just won't do! Lack of booze is killing me
I need a drink, give me a drink
Rehab sucks I wanna run away
But those doctors are making me stay and they say,
"There're several steps you need to complete
So you can get clean, get back on your feet"
I don't need this I don't need your fucking help
You are all stupid idiots who can all go to hell
"Shock 'em now
There is no escape
Same goes for all of you,
until I let you out of this place
Now you all have problems, that's the truth
You're narcissistic parasites
But we can save you"
"But you gotta tell us why
All the reasons you got high
The reason that you use
The cause for your abuse
If we could find out why
We could teach you on the side
All the action that we'll take
Oh, the way you'll be saved"
"Why did you drink?"
I drink 'cause it's cool
"Why did you drink?"
I drink because it tastes good
"Why did you abuse?"
I really like the flavor
"That answer just won't do"
It'll have to do, it'll have to do, it'll have to doooooo
"If you don't tell me what I need to hear
You'll never get clean You'll always live in fear
You'll never go home You'll be replaced in your band
Do you know what I mean?"
Yes, I understand
When I was a boy I was traumatized
I was 6 years old and my brother lied
He burned down the garage and he blamed it on me
And that was the first time I ever had a drink
I drank, I drank I drank it all away
It's my brother's fault,
It's my brother's fault
That's the reason that I drink
"You must forgive your brother"
No way!
It’s just a funny rehab song don’t go too crazy with it
0:54 🔥
Come on AdultSwim. Let this series have the final season it so rightly deserves.
They listened.... sorta. They finally greenlit a finale movie. From there..... who knows?
@@MeowthRocket You dudes probably already know this, but the movie was good and we also got Dethalbum IV out of it, which features Murmaider III
"No way!"
"You must forgive your brotherrrrrrrrrr!" XD
I never know Kirk Hammett could sing until this song. Metallica needs to have him sing more often
0:53 I love how during the flashes on the screen they show EXACTLY why Pickles drinks
0:31 to 0:53 deserves it's own song just by itself
One of the best Dethkloks songs.
This episode was so frustrating watching Pickles chasing his brother to try to force him to accept his forgiveness. The only person Pickles really needed to forgive was himself, and to let Seth to kick rocks.
"... but we can save youuuuu!!! [Insert Greatest Sound Ever]".
Why is this guy wasting his time as a rehab doctor? He clearly missed his calling as a musician.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he did all that just to get to Pickles specifically
@@TheCopyNinja733 it he could be in a band on his off hours and his other skills came in handy
@@TheCopyNinja733 I find it more entertaining to have random jackoffs having amazing vocal skills to push a story along haha
@@darksparkyshark430 tbh that’s funnier 😅
-"You must forgive your brotheEer🎶"

So relatable😏
0:38 I like how Pickles is the only one not to sing this part, like some part of him recognized he does have a problem
"You must forgive your brother...!"
"No way."
Good on you there, pickles.
Still my favorite! 0:53-1:27
+vkuso88 yessssssss
vkuso88 it'll have to doooouuuuooooouuuooooooo
Butcha gotta tell us whyyyyy
Yo, when that doctor starts hitting those notes... actually gives me chills.
Not only is the music great but speaking from someone who's a recovering addict it all hits home.
Almost sounds like SOAD....
I was gonna say "this has no business being so good" but it does. All of the absurdly awesome music in this series is fully warranted
in the uncensored version, at 0:25, instead of genitals Pickles has a second red goatie.
This song put me on the right path. I'm an alcoholic just like Pickles and the hatred everyone has in this video taught me an indescribable lesson.
This song is a masterpiece. Not only is it very entertaining, it also expertly represents the act of breaking through Pickles emotional layers and use of drugs until he reaches the brutal emotional truth. Still, he is a god of drinking so screw those doctors!
I like type singing style of the doctors
I think that is jack black. Damn 3 years later. Lol
Apparently it's Kirk Hammet from Metallica actually.
@@steamedrice97 it’s actually me
0:18 Wow. Pickles is actually being really nice and considerate of her.
Murderface is the band's sex pest, not Pickles.
He’s just out looking for a drink
I like it slowly starts flashing Pickles’s brother the closer he gets to the reason.
1:37 love that part with the guy in the backround "YEEEEAAAAAHHH"
Sounds like jack black
Literally said "oh shit" when Seth's face showed up in the flashes.
It's one thing to create a hit show, but to simultaneously create a kickass, catchy, uvula-abusing, sellable soundtrack is absolutely insane. This show is on a level so high, most people can't even see it. Brilliant. Brutal. Brilliantly brutal.
They need to do a movie length Metalocalypse rock opera. I'd buy it on DVD even though I usually download everything, just to support the premise.
This is pretty old but you got your wish
1:27 part of the song is one of my favourite of all their songs
man, i'll develop addiction, just to come to rehab center with doctors singin' death metal
Huh that's not funny

being fair, he's got every reason to not forgive his brother, considering he tried to bilk him out of millions later on.
1:14 has to the best part of the whole thing because it has such a great sound.
WHY DID YOU DRIIINNKKK
My favourite part is 1:27
If you don't tell me what I need to hear,
You'll never get clean,
You'll always live in fear,
You'll never go home,
You'll be replaced in your band,
Do you know what I mean?
Yes I understand!
Fucking awesome melody to it.
Today is my 35th birthday, and I spent it accompanying a friend of mine whose mother is dying of cancer. No one rememberd my birthday, bu t I dont blame the cause everybody is fighting thei own battle. The first thin I did when I got home was get drunk and listen to Dethklok.
This whole sequence is astounding.
I love this song and scene so much. I went through rehab and they do such a great job boiling it all down and making it metal and palatable.
Any advice on where I could find more music like this: 00:50 - 01:38 ?
Been listening to some other Brendon Small songs, but they are quite different.
Thanks beforehand! :)
Anything from Tenacious D
Second!
I've seen Pickles' brother and Pickles is right. He doesn't need forgiveness.
He needs to launched into the sun tied to rocked while being stung by scorpions on his taint and having his eyes scooped out with a rusty spoon.
This is so well written, a master piece!
@@Eva-uw6uo Well said! He drank to escape the memory of his brother, until he drank to save his REAL brothers.
ONLY Metalocalypse can make Dr.Drew seem badass haha
Screaming during all the clip*
"You must forgive your brother"
"No way"
It's amazing that the doctor is vouced by Kirk Hammet
As someone currently doing practicum at a rehab facility; I can honestly say that Pickle’s behavior is pretty accurate for some of the more problematic alcoholics. Thankfully we have yet to have someone “spitting on dicks and starting fights”. They are incredibly verbally aggressive though.
at 1:28 starts the best part of the music i think... damn that entering...
This song hits hard for anyone who's ever dealt with addiction.
Got me having tears in my eyes
You know Rehab places could save a lot of time and money by just doing a 2.05 minute thing like this and you'll probably get the same results.
damn that old doc has a set of lungs
i found it great that while he beats the crap outta everyone he still apologizes to the peep sitting on the toilet when he kicked the door in. 0:18
"New Dethkolk movie announced" YEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!
This was always the best scene in the show, stg. Pickles assumes that he's in hell and being punished for eternity by demons, but in reality, he's in purgatory, enduring temporary flames of purification to understand the underlying cause of his deeds.
This goes way harder than any rehab story has any right to go.
God what a show
This rehab scene is amazing and powerful even though it's humorous it really digs deep into the heart of what it's like with addiction and mental illness and the challenges to overcome it. And then we have people like pickles who get to the root and still stuck at the forgiveness stage "....no" lol but also I love how at :55-1:13 you get glimpses of the root of his issue. Showing how they root sticks to you like a ghost
BRING THIS SHOW BACK OR GIVE THE RIGHTS TO BRENDON SMALL
Holy shit this was good. Like Broadway-worthy all tickets sold out months ahead rock opera good.
Fuck that it was so good that tickets are sold out Decades in advance.... putting Hatsune Miku to shame
I really love how genuinely they actually want to help
Gotta hand it to those two orderlies man they Tough AF
I always enjoyed how the Dr. looks really caring and sympathetic at 1:18.
Exactly same lol I was scrolling seeing if anyone liked that part to lol
U can even hear it in his voice when he asked a second rime
The doctors killed it. I'd go as far to say they made this track.
Murderface: He's Propably living like a fucking king!!!
(Cut to Rehab with an enraged Pickles)
Pickles: I HATE REHAB!!!
this was stuck in my head all night, this is awesome.
Pickles is so hot as a young punk.

5 years later but yes. And Pickles in the old Snakes n Barrels photos.

huh...they do, don't they? Maybe Brendon is a fan.
It’s probably a reference.
The beer he's drinking.
It's named Dark Tranquility.
xD
I love that as the doctor gets more into his part of the song the picture of Seth gets clearer each time he says something showing that he's really getting through to Pickles.

Huh. To think, had Pickle's brother not lied, Pickles would not be living such a kickass life style!
1:03I've watched this a dozen times and I just notice in the flashes you can see Pickle's brother.

Around 01:54, it shows Pickles as the guy running from the cops in Florida in Nathan’s flashback. Wouldn’t that be freaking crazy if that were true? (You’ve got to slow the video down to see it)
One of my favorites. I loved when pickles was ever allowed to sing.
I love it because how quickly we forget that Pickles was once the front man of his own band doing vocals. His vocals really shine earlier in the episode when he sings "I've never been so betrayed!" What a great episode.
This is the first time I noticed that kiddie Pickles has a lil' pickle on his shirt. He was so cute. So was Toki.
Still one of my favorite songs. It's a nice van, though.
Every Dethklok song is like the perfect fucking song that goes great with the story/plot
I'm just sad that this song isn't on Spotify or in any of the Dethklok albums
I am PRAYING it winds up of Dethalbum 4 (if the rumours are true) and they get Tenacious D to do the Dr's part 😂
But that's a fever dream
