Amazing video Matt! Loved how you tweak your guns optimally for you, it's fun to watch and pretty educational. PS. Now that you're stuck inside, it would be awesome if you do a little animal tour and show some of the animals you keep at home! That is, if you'd like that of course
Your vapor trial series is the only reason i got into hunting. I've always been in long range precision and guns but it because of you i even thought about hunting. Thanks for all the info you put out.
I had an axe once. The best axe I've ever owned. I had to change the handle a few times and the head about three times, but it was still a fantastic axe. I hope you get the attempt at comedy. I love the way you say it started as a standard rifle and now the only thing the same is the action....Love your work.
Great video. I like your choice in the .300 WSM. At 2700ish fps, and high B,C, with good consistency power burn do to the deep shoulders of the .300 WSM. You are doting all the I's, and crossing all the T's.
Thank's Matt, as usual a great video. As you you said, a bedded system and a good trigger is a must for long range and accurate shooting. I bedding all my guns even the .22Lr, it has always a good impact.
Hi, yeah, locked down here in Michigan, USA too. Really sucks, I have been in quarantine for 16 days now and bored to tears. thanks for the video, helps break up the boredom.
I'm a huge fan of the WSM's. Started with the 300 and then got the 270 and 325. The 243wssm is my all time favorite varmint cartridge. Can't wait to see you do some shooting with your new gun!
Another enjoyable video. Looking forward sometime for some reloading videos and load development for this .300 WSM. Looking forward this year to getting my hands on a Nexus for either my Tikka T3 or T/C compass (Boyds stock).
Hey Matt I appreciate your videos. In months between my pack hunts your channel along with others has kept me entertained, being an expat Living in Australia it’s enjoyable to watch a hunting career like yours unfold to the world but without being arrogant or condescending, I implore you to take a second look at your bullet selection, I don’t know your medium to large game harvests of the past but an eld-x and more so the eld-m is a poor unethical projectile selection for harvesting game. The bullets are one and the same ( except slightly and I mean slightly more protruded “interlock” and a hair thicker jacket at the base ) but marketed as two different types of projectiles, and hornady has done an exceptional job marketing these. Both are non bonded, poorly interlocked, thin jacketed lead bullets. (Cross section them and compare to benchmark hunting projectiles) or watch “The real gunsmith” on TH-cam for a no none sense chat about bullet selection. My experience with these bullets is vastly different to your experience of “good consistent expansion”. I’ve experienced everything from ok expansion @ 60% retained weight to shrapnel with core completely separated from jacket (grenade type stuff) I too thought bullet coefficiency was be all end all of bullet selection, which is what lead me to ELD-X in the first place. I mean who doesn’t want bullets that get up and boogey and drive tacks all day. But I was wrong. I’ve appreciated your stance on hunting, conservation and ethics. I’d like to do my bit. Kind regards.
th-cam.com/video/yj7nCFScM18/w-d-xo.html This demonstrates somewhat of what I’m talking about. Add bone and tissue denser than water to the equation and I think we might conclude that these match grade “hunting” bullets need to be looked at with more scrutiny and thought for our wildlife. Funny thing is these have more controlled expansion at farther distances due to reduced velocity, shoot these at 150yds out of a 300wsm at an elands boiler room and Its a 50/50 wether that animal dies in 45seconds or 45minutes. Food for thought Kind regards
Great video lad! Lockdown is getting to all of us here in PTA im friggen dying. Please put up the optics and a man cave tour everything. Thanks boet Lekker
Its great that you're reviewing a rifle which is not made by FX for a change. I was beginning to lose hope for a minute but now you have my interest back.
I am new to the sport and a new subscriber .I want to thank you for this video as I am learning and this has really helped me . Thanks mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Stay safe .
Thanks for doing some more firearm stuff. Been tuning the airgun and firearms here at the ranch too. Some small game hunting to keep the kitchen pot more interesting. The 6.5 creedmoor here, very similar to the 260.
Can you please do a reloading series, I am also particularly interested in the neck vs full case sizing decision. Can you also expand on what w=makes the WSM inherently accurate, what cartridges are inherently inaccurate? great video and good luck for the lockdown
I was about to go for the 300wm but after your video it ticked my brain. I went and compared the ballistics and they were almost the same. As you said, the recoil did it for me also and made me to take the 300wsm over the 300wm. Great video. Here from RSA
Whidden are some premium dies, nice purchase. .300WSM is a great cartridge, and I'm sure suits you very well. You mentioned big boys a few times, and there is some advantage to going that route. For me, .300WSM is just an oversized .308Win. Very capable accurate cartridge, and right at home dual purpose LR hunting/targets. The .300WSM obviously has more powder, and the modern design allows a marginally more efficient use of that powder to propel your projectile. That said, short action cases make a sacrifice. That lower powder capacity means loading parameters become more critical. If you get a chance to work with a big boy rifle like .338Win Mag, .338Lapua, .358 UMT, .375RUM, .375 Cheytac, etc, etc. with that 30in barrel at distances beyond 1km, especially on bigger game, you understand why sacrificing a little powder, weight, and recoil is worth it for the end product. Not putting down the .300WSM, and like I said, for your needs a great setup. However, you should give some time and attention to researching a big boy project for those ELR hunting trips. I feel like .35 at 3500fps is a perfect balance between killing energy and manangeable recoil, but projectile choice is very limited. .338 and .375 have significantly more projectile choices for long range hunting. .408 is also a great choice, but definitely more niche than the other 2. Just some thoughts for 2020, I know I'm late to the game, but great video
24 inch with carbon proof barrel now you can walk far. Also, trigger tech two stage trigger and OS suppressor as apposed to a break. Nosler partition. or if impact is above that 2000, Nosler Accubond For ELR 220 Berger on gong
Just found your channel (this clip) by recommendation from a friend. Really impressed! Follow a lot of hunting and shooting channels and very rarely come across someone who can talk for this length of time and make so much sense and say so many interesting things! You have a gift my friend. I am looking forward to checking out your other clips. I live in Sweden and came back from China in January - know what you mean regarding the virus 😬 Have a GRS Bifrost myself with a Blaser R8 and 6XC match barrel topped with a Delta Stryker HD 5-50x56 which I totally love. Anyway, keep up the good work and stay safe you too! Greetings from Sweden ✊🏻 PS. I believe Norma also anneal their brass but unlike Lapua they polish the brass afterwards so you don’t see the annealing marks/discoloration. Have been using Norma brass for years and absolutely love it 👍🏻
really enjoy your videos, Proudly SA! Keep going. Interesting you mention the magazine issue you had with the original Tikka magazine. I'm also having issues with the factory mag on my Savage 300WSM, will also be looking to replace the factory mag with something aftermarket that feeds a bit better.
With the factory barrel and stock being taken off, and then the mag -metal work, it seems starting with a custom bench rest receiver would have been in the same ball park money wise. But, your results are awesome as usual. One of your scope distributors is only a few miles from me and I'm building a 6.5 creedmoor !!
My Savage 93R .17hmr covers my small game up to a bobcat. Using both 17gr v-max and 20xtp bullets. The AR-15 .223 covers bobcats, coyotes and hogs. Using 55gr v-max My Bergara Ridge 6.5cm covers coyotes, hogs and deer I’m also using it to learn long range shooting. My next rifle will be a Bergara HMR .300wm for bigger game like Elk, Black Bear and International travel hunting.
So ......... if I understand correctly, once you get a custom receiver milled for the extra rigidity you should be able to reassemble all your original Tikka parts ..........
Gol dang, you dont go cheap on anything. Dont even want to know what you put into that one rifle alone. Nice set up. Look forward to a hunting video with that system. Stay safe.
Watched a Video of the 300WSM last night after doing a lot of research of the 300 WM instantly fell in love with the 300WSM, Awesome to see you also opted for it, would be nice to see a 1 year follow up video and your thoughts on it. Gooi Lood!
I found that I got my best results, by using the slowest burning powder that was close to filling the case . 5 shots , 1/3 inch group at l00 yds, 110 gr Hornady, from a 3006, model 70 Win. IMR 7625,, Never had the place to shoot over 150yds.
Meanwhile here in the states almost everyone is carrying anything around from a 308 to a 300 win-mag for whitetail deer. Zero is normally 100 yards and long range hunting is considered to be about 300 yards with a paper plate hold over guesstimate through whatever scope you picked up from Bass Pro Shop. Don't get me wrong we have plenty of really serious marksmen here, but for the most part the average hunter is cracking a walnut with a sledgehammer.
Please please make a follow up reloading video. It helps out a bunch. A what equipment to buy I love watching your videos and reviews keep up the good work Kind regards
Your scope looks very interesting, at the moment I believe there is only 1 ( one) element scope in Australia, but when it becomes more available I'll be very keen as my next scope. Planning on doing binoculars as well?
Nice setup. 300 wsm makes the best 30 cal AR10. With a good hand load and the right projectile the WSM has more bogie and smack down than a 300 WM. Do you notice with a break the muzzle report is way louder? Great video, great ideas as I’m going to do some major changer my Savage WSM. No if I could afford one of your scopes without having to sell a rifle. 👍
What twist rate do you have? I'm looking to get a 300 wsm and want to be able to run 220gr bullets at lower velocities for bushveld hunting but also to be able to go lighter for long range hunting. I've heard 1 in 10 is a good option.
@Matt You should have a look at the Hausken JD184 MKII, probaly the lightest and most compact magnum compatible suppressor on the market. Distributed by L&O Group SA (PTY) LTD in South Africa.
If you have a moment to field a few questions. What's that longest COAL you can load in your mags. I wanted to do a mdt xrs or a krg bravo but im afraid I'll have a very limiting internal mag dimension. I looked up your chase and the grs does load accept a Tikka LA but I believe you used an SA. Thanks for any response.
How deep are you seating the 208grn eldm mate? I've got a 300wm and the factory Tikka Magazine is terrible for bullet length. I have to seat them about 300 thou off the lands or it becomes a single load rifle only. Any tips? 👍
How much does you setup weigh Matt? With just the brake on it, not the suppressor. And yes, please upload Element Optic videos to this channel as well as the other. Specifically, I'd like to see demonstrations of its tracking ability on a big center fire rifle rather than airguns. Sure wish you would have released those new scopes about 6-8 months ago... I would have bot one of yours instead of the Athlon Ares BTR for my Dad. Now I'll have to build another rifle to put the Titan on... Im thinking about a .280 Remington shooting a 162 ELDX. I still love the .260 though for everything I shoot at except ELK.
Question about your DBM setup. Were you able to source your bottom metal and magazines from the same place or did you have to order from different venders.
Matt would you consider the 6.5 creedmoor for target and hunting ? Perhaps the Tikka T3x Tac A1 in 6.5 creedmoor. Please upload your educational videos to this channel Matt. Take care in these challenging times, regards from England and thanks for your video.
Sweet set up I just seen this video. Do you still like the grs warg stock. I just ordered one for a savage 111 long range hunter with the acis.3.85 chamber in the wild cat 7-300 prc match . Do you feel that the stock is ridged enough. Thanks for your informative video. I started out watching your airgun videos and now I watch anything that you put out. 👍
I was curious why you went WSM instead of the tried and true Win Mag, then I saw it was a Tikka. IMO, you're leaving a lot of performance on the table vs. a Win mag in a proper long action. Berger 215 Hybrids can be pushed 2900-3000, quite a step up. Recoil would be greater, but certainly not unmanageable with a good brake.
You’re probably right, but I’m still pretty happy with my setup as it is. I quite like the short action, and may even load lighter ammo as most of my shooting will still be under 500 yards.
@@AirArmsHuntingSA Yeah definitely nothing wrong with the short version, seems you like and are most familiar with the Tikkas, and knowing your rifle well is definitely a good thing! Love you channel, looking forward to the next vid, cheers.
If I followed you correctly, the action (less bolt) is the only 'original' piece of the rifle. You customized everything else. Sorry if I missed it, but what made you choose the rifle action that you kept as part of the rifle. Cheers from Virginia, USA. Week Four of 'social distancing' and now lockdown. Stay safe, Matt and ALL.
have been very grateful of your channels content , looking forward to your new installs. also check out these two aussies for long range fun MarkandSam AfterWork .
you should make some drawn circles of where we have to look when they shoot at long distance so i dont have to rewind so often to see what actually happend thank you i love the videos keep it up!

My jump is over 100 thou... doesn’t seem to have any negative effect on accuracy though.
@@AirArmsHuntingSA cheers bud.
I might have missed it, but what is the weight of the 300 wsm? Awesome video. I'm currently looking at an element scope as well!
Thanks for another cool video. Any plans to have a dealer for your scopes in NZ? cheers
Id love to see some hunting footage with this setup.
Personally I run a .300 win mag with an area 419 break and the recoil is very manageable. And I’m 15
2five7 300 WM and I shoot 230 Berger at 2825 and 225 ELDm at 2875. Recoil isn’t bad at all considering at 600 and out I can spot my own shots
Buy mags at MDT💪
They’re Canadian maybe they can ship to you, don’t know your laws.
I love your hunting videos.Love from Pakistan💓💓💓
have been very grateful of your channels content , looking forward to your new installs. also check out these two aussies for long range fun MarkandSam AfterWork .
What is the barrel life for the 300wsm, I just picked up a proof bighorn origin prefit in 300wsm for a sweet deal, $440 for a 24” prefit
Just joined element optics channel.
I would love to test your scope in the USA for PRS match
you should make some drawn circles of where we have to look when they shoot at long distance so i dont have to rewind so often to see what actually happend
thank you i love the videos keep it up!
Hi Matt, what twist do you have in the Bartlein barrel?
So you bought the entire the tikka t3x rifle to only retain te bolt?
