    Good day sir, I’m new to the channel. You got some great content. I love this series of boss pedals. I own an OD-20 forever. I never heard the SL20 until now, thanks for the demo

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! I really like the OD-20, its a good way to figure out what types of drive pedals work with your style. Plus the amp switcher option is a really nice feature if your amp supports it. I’ve got all of the *-20 pedals other than the loopers and the Wave Generator, hopefully I eventually get to all of them!

    I love how he put a TE-2 in front of it and an RV-6 after it, because behind me right now is an SL-20 with a TE-2 directly in front of it and an RV-5 directly after it

    thank you for this video, it was extremely helpful. we use this pedal in Die Robot. we actually sync our delays using the midi feature, it's definitely a cool effects pedal!

      That is awesome!! A great use of the midi capability of it.

    This is my desert Island pedal ...and I am so glad someone else seems to appreciate it. I keep discovering things in it and realizing other things I can do, with what I already know. It's so simply complex! ...and for its time a marvel of engineering....how does it track so well? With polyphonic pitch shifting and no glitches? Notice that? ....And how did they do that percussive attack? ...If boss has some envelope generator pedal (like the EHX Attack Decay I have) or a compressor pedal with an Attack like that.... I want it! ..I also have an old Pigtronix PHILOSOPHER KING... I find their attack slower than my natural picking attack....compared to the attack the BOSS Slicer has, unfortunately they're garbage! ...but I am comparing different things ...I know. So is the Slicers percussive attack something special? I'm not sure.

      @jat5am 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      could you tell if it has subdivisions of some kind? like if you're syncing midi and tweaking tempo. I'd glad to buy it, but my overall tempo could be a lot slower than I'd want slicer to kick in.

    • @MYGAS21
      @MYGAS21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jat5am Buy it! Don't think too much about it and don't expect too much from other people's opinions because this thing is deceptively simple...I seem to always find new things about it, I never could imagine .....SO from what I know so far 1) The patterns have varied time signatures 2) The two envelope knobs (Attack & Duty ) influence the beats 3) You can use a dummy plug for the ping-pong stereo setting and have only half the pattern. The midi synch is incredible. I hope this answered your question.

    Nice vid on a unique pedal. Don’t really have the space for it, but now real tempted to pick up the used one that surfaced at my local shop

    • @wychwoodmusic

      @@StompboxBreakdown I did, in fact pick it up! (And it was a very good price, even before the compact reissue came along.) What a unique and awesome pedal. Still trying to figure out how to incorporate it in playing in an easy and practical way - I suspect midi-syncing the tempo with delay might really help - but it does seem like a treasure.
      The Slicer almost reminds me of the Whammy pedal if Tom Morello (and Jack White, Radiohead, etc) hadn't come along to show the world how its wild and powerful ways could work in real, awesome songs. In a way, I'm surprised the Slicer doesn't seem to have found a guitar hero to champion it and make it widely known.

    I've never played an actual Slicer, but there's a pretty good emulation in my Katana. Always a lot of fun to play with.

  • @PedalExperiments
    @PedalExperiments 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One of my favourite pedals I've ever owned. But damn, they're so big and such an awkward shape, it makes it really hard to fit on a crowded board.
    I used to use it after a DD-20, back in the day, and it was so much fun to use the momentary function to chop and dice the oscillation from the DD-20's Twist mode! 😙👌
    And don't think I didn't spot that RT-20 on the wall behind you! I hope you feature that beast soon?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely! I have all the 20 series pedals (except the loopers and wave generator) and plan to hit them all. The DD-20 is such a perfect digital delay, it always gets the job done.

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@StompboxBreakdown I've always wanted to try that RT-20, and the CE-20 for that matter. The GE-20 looks fun, too!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I really appreciate it. The CE-20 is such a beast, it’s what really let me find a chorus style I like, and in the process, turn me on to the Dimension effect. It makes an appearance in an upcoming video and is probably due for its own at some point.

    Nice demo! I love this pedal. I love tremolos in general so much, that i probably will have more than one tremolo for different settings. I have a very complex one that does hard pan in my Boss GT-5. The SL20 t does attract me for the 3d sounds, but i love the sounds on the TC Pipeline too, is very customizable. Do you know about the Sunflower Flower? Is awesome!

  • @hailmaryrecordings8255
    @hailmaryrecordings8255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wow … there are some usable sounds in that. I’m not too familiar with this series of pedal. Is the Space Echo part of it? I love those.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yup! The RE-20 is my current go-to delay pedal. There’s also the RT-20 rotary simulator, OD-20 Drive Zone, and a few other really good ones. A (mostly) solid series.

    • @hailmaryrecordings8255
      @hailmaryrecordings8255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@StompboxBreakdown Very cool. I’m planning on getting a space-echo soon. A friend had the Roland rack-mount model in the late-80’s & I loved it.
      I’ve only been into pedals since the pandemic. Maybe a chorus and a screamer .. wide-open punk-rock. Then I started recording my songs & finding different tones on the Boss-GT1 I picked-up because plug-ins both scared me at first 😂
      So now I’m buying pedals to duplicate the tones live. I appreciate the demos .. you compose cool stuff for them too.
      Merry Christmas.

    Sry to ask this, but I'm in the market for a tremolo pedal, can the new Boss Slicer replace a full featured tremolo pedal? Or will I be sacrificing a good tremolo sound by getting a "jack of all trades" type pedal?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a good question! I haven’t gotten to play with the new SL-2 yet, but if looks like it does have a Tremolo setting on the rightmost knob, so yeah!

  • @RobertNolan
    @RobertNolan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm pretty sure this was created in direct response to the impressive Adrenalinn I, II, and III multi effect pedals. It should be noted that this did not sound the same as the Adrenalinn I, II, or III but it did that whole arpeggio thing and the hope was to crush anyone who seemed like a threat to them. Unfortunately, the music trend didn't heavily move into that direction tonally, which is why these went relatively unnoticed. The Roger Linn pedal is superior but this is a great pedal in it's own right.

      @StompboxBreakdown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, same. That's why I sold mine. It just did so much, with no way to save your favourite settings!
