    Love using the SL-20 on synths, especially while syncing it to an MPC/drum machine so everything is in time. I wish I had more practical uses for a slicer because they're so cool. Glad to see this new version doesn't really lose anything of value from the 20, even if the stereo output modes are a pain to access. The USB is a nice addition, even if it likely won't be used often, if ever. I'm thrilled to see Boss adding more functionality with stacked knobs, hidden settings, MIDI, and USB to their compact pedals. Hoping more pedals with these features (plus bypassing via MIDI) come to market in the near future. I'd be all in for a PN-2W with MIDI sync

  • @MYGAS21
    @MYGAS21 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice demo but what really interests me as an owner of the old SL-20 is how much control do I have to create my own patterns.....basic questions I have are a) Can I craft my own patterns or do I just choose from pre-existing ones b) If I can craft my own patterns, can I do odd meters? c) Can I add effects like pitch shifting, bit crushing, etc on single beats? No one has addressed these questions as far as I know. And the manual I downloaded says nothing about the app and what we can do with it.

    This is awesome. Seems like Boss really believes in pushing beyond conventional effects and wants to offer guitarists more than just refinements of the gear they’re already using.
    Only thing I’d wanna see on a pedal like this is MIDI. So hopefully there’s a 200 series big brother for this.
    This effect could be so powerful in a set if it could be combined with a drum machine, looper, etc

    Gave you a thumbs UP for a well done video. On the other hand, I would never have a need for that kind of processing. I love effects, but I play in a band. Important questions: Does the pattern start with the press of a footswitch (or is it constantly cycling in the background until the unit is engaged)? Is there a way to restart the pattern (to re-sync it with the band in case the tempo was not tapped perfectly)? Without those features it would be in fact useless for playing live without midi sync even though there is tap tempo. Also: no presets on such a feature-rich pedal makes it more of a gadget than a music making tool. Is it possible to at least save and recall presets with midi?

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's a good question - i will have to check the manual!

    • @tintamar
      @tintamar ปีที่แล้ว

      The pattern starts with the press of footswitch, it does not cycle in background. Restarting the pattern will work by pressing on/off and then back on with the footswitch. There are no presets available, however you can control attack, duty, tempo and balance with an exp pedal, bringing you close to presets if you can work that way. For some types of music and playing it is a super creative pedal. It brings me in wild territory and that's very useful for me.

    I saw youtube recommend me the release video by Boss. I thought "what the heck is a Slicer? another one of Boss's silly noise pedals that seem kinda cool but you can't do anything with them". Especially because it has the same look as some of those Oh how wrong I was, I had a great urge to have one just like when I first heard SY-1. I don't know what it does, I don't know what it is, I don't understand the controls. But it makes interesting noises.

    IM SORRY IF I MISSED THIS POINT IN THE VIDEO, but.....is there anything the old SL-20 could do that the new SL2 cannot?
    or does this SL2 have ALL of the algorithms/patterns as the old SL-20?

    • @aangtonio5570
      @aangtonio5570 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe the momentary/latch switching modes and the looper feature, but they're both pretty negligible, imho.
      If you're worried about patterns, you can upload (replace) new patterns into the SL-2 via USB with the Boss Tone Studio software (the SL-20 can't do that). And the SL-2 fits way better onto smaller pedalboards than the bigger SL-20.

    I am a big Boss pedal fan and i own around 80 pieces of a variety. Old and new. But this slicer pedal doesn't appeal to me. I heard it's sound and most are not to my liking. To me, this pedal is unplayable. I hate tremolo effects. I never use them and they are rarely used in the genres of guitar music i like. I do not like music with pulsating tremolo guitar sounds. Just saying negative things about Boss even if i like their classic pedals.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely in the 'effect" category rather than the "tone enhancer" category. I like it because it makes me try things out of the ordinary, but luckily BOSS make a million other things for other things people want to play.
