Great video Martin. I would love to do this but I'm afraid it's too big a job for me to tackle. But oh how I would love an access hole at the bottom of the tire well to get to the fuel pump. Guess it's impossible to ascertain dead center of where to cut a hole and I'd have to drop the tank anyway to cut the hole. What would it have cost Chrysler engineers to just design one in to begin with during original build? Nothing.
@@martinbuilt Hi Martin, yes I agree. I watched one or two videos and looked at some photos of some guy at JeepForum dot com who did an opening in the well to gain access to the fuel pump and drilled through the tank at one point. He filled the hole with JB weld, it looked like a mess when he was finished. At certain spots there is only 1 inch between the top of the tank and the bottom of the tire well. I would only do it if I dropped the tank first and used a 6" hole saw after establishing exactly where to cut the hole. But if I dropped the tank, I might as well put in a new pump while it's down. Years ago I installed an auxiliary gas tank on a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 by myself but I'm afraid those days are over. lol. Is the tire well that you removed of any use, could it be repurposed on a roof rack as a tire holder?

And how often are you changing these pumps
Install the gasket 1st in the hole of the tank, then slide the fuel pump assembly into the hole.
Did you end up having any measurable space between the bottom of that plate and the top of the tank or was really close?
I believe at the highest point of the fuel tank there was 3/8 of an inch space to the bottom of the plate.

I like your work very much I would love to do this like you I probably will not be going off road very much nowhere much to go where I live but I still lifted my WJ 2" with springs and put some Wrangler 18" wheels with BFGs and its nice to now that I could go off road if I wanted to.
I am going off subject I thought about doing this much like you did a 4" tuck another Idea I had was to make a lockable gun case not many people would think to look in there for hunting guns as I got new BFGs they are strong so probably get away with no spare wheel got a can of that air stuff as a backup.
thank you, yea that would be a great idea, here is one of my followers that I sure you would like the way he has done his tuck..

@@martinbuilt Thanks for that Martin.
Excellent video, modification , and quality of work...
Thank you so much 😀
this is awesome knowledge,Martin! Very well done!
Thank you I'm glad you liked it and found it helpful. 😁
Can you send measurements of iron cutting
the cover is 32" in diameter
Nice and thorough good video I wish I hang all of that equipment thanks martin
Thank you I'm glad you liked it and found it helpful. ☺️
Great Video Matin! Paul from Reno.
Glad you enjoyed it
Where did you get the LED strip and how'd you install?
Got it from Amazon amzn.to/3eVJFup
Just cut to length and then splice into either the brake or tail light wiring.
What do you do with the spare wheel Martin?
It's sitting on a shelf inside my shop. I just carry a small plug-in air compressor.
Great job!!! Amazing!!! One question... how that affect to de gravity center?. Now you take 78 liters of gas over 30 cms upper. That is important or not?
It's a Jeep, not a Porsche
In theory it raises the center of gravity but it shouldn't be enough to notice. I street drive mine with no sway bars lol
can i offer you a job at jeep--go at the head office and teach the engineers how the real world likes our cars built simple and common sense god bless you friend
Thank you, Jim, greatly appreciated!
Ill tell you what if you do a fuel filter change at a 100,000 miles and other simple preventive maintenance jobs. You should never have to do this.
That's exactly what I don't like on my 01 GC. The gas tank is mounted so low to the ground. Wish I could do this to mine. Just wanted to ask you, have you ever used a Superchips tuner on a 01 GC 4.7 non HO before? Thinking about buying one to boost the HP a little and to eliminate the speed limiter too. Not that I plan to drive over a 100 mph though. Thanks Martin.
I have the Superchips Traildash 2, I love the gauge package and some of the bells and whistles it comes with but I can't tell any difference in performance.
Brilliant as always.
This is added to my "To-Do" list.
Fantastic!
Hope you are using the bead roller and putting “Martin Built” into it.
that would have been cool, thought about rolling an MB into it.
Question. What did you use for painting your WJ? Did you spray it or did you have it professionally done?
This is still the original paint, brilliant Black Pearl.
Incredible job Mártin...you're the best....!!!! Thanks....!!!!!!!!
Thank you Marco
Nice job Martin. That plasma cutter sure came in handy. Are you going out to Rick's place for the bead rolling?
Yeah that plasma cutter does a great job. Yep went out to Rick's and got it done. Part 2 will start at place bead rolling that metal.
Talk about custom fabrication. Awesome video! What state are you in? Can I send you a skid plate to fab?
Thank you. I am in Nevada. I don't have access to a beedroller anymore; my friend moved to Texas.
Nice work sir and did a great job for fuel tank going up
Thank you I appreciate that I'm glad you liked it.
Love that circle cutter!
Thank you for watching 👀
martin great video, do you have one for the the hood scoop you installed?
Thank you, I do have footage of that but, it kinda of sucks so I never posted it.
@@martinbuilt will keep an eye out just in case you do post it, BTW no more johnny joints available
I thought the WJ had rear drum brakes. Did your come like that or did you do a conversion?
all WJ came with 4 wheel disc brakes.
@@martinbuilt Thank you.
I have to ask. Where did u get the hood?
This is the MMD 71323-00 hood scoop that I purchased from www.americanmuscle.com made to fit the 05-09 Ford Mustangs.
How do i get rid of my evap system or hide it better???
And personally am glad it is where it is because on the earlier model Grand Cherokees it was under the hood and I don't much care for that because I have been trying to clean up the engine Bay by doing wire tucks and relocating the battery and power distribution center.
Know if you Are doing a fuel tank tuck You could relocate it to the top of the fuel tank and put a plate across the tire well
Awesome!!!!!!from Cleveland, Ohio
Thank you, I appreciate that.
You are a smart guy, good job. Well thought out.
Thank you appreciate that.
It is one of my favorite modes I've done so far.
This is really useful stuff right hear, your whole channel
Thank you, glad you like them.
Martin you are THE MAN. I've always wanted to do this on my wj and I know exactly which video I'm going to use for when I do.
Quick question though, instead of rolling beads into that metal plate, do you think welding some thicker metal cross pieces on top would work as well?
Thank you, you could just weld some small angle iron that would be good enough.
What type of paint 🎨 job do you have?
I'm assuming you're talking about the exterior of the Jeep.
That is called Brilliant Black Pearl; it is the factory paint.
@@martinbuilt I need that paint job, cause minds just a solid black
Are your Jack Stands on the axle tubes or the frame rails?
frame rails
You do a great job martin. . Salute!
Thank you. I appreciate that. And thank you for watching. 🙂
My tank skid plate has a fat dent from dropping onto a rock😂
sounds like it saved the fuel tank
Full size spare rear bumper mounted or on a roof rack and boom
Yeah that would work great for an off-road vehicle.
Thank you so much .
Tank tuck done 🖐️.
You are very welcome. 🙂
Where can I get a vented hood sir?
I used an MMD 71323-00 hood scoop that I purchased from www.americanmuscle.com for 109.99 free shipping.
Access panel to the fuel pump incase ever need to be?
Where did you put the spare at?
No more spare, I carry a air compressor and my AAA card 😀
In my case, a spare won't fit.
Martin,I noticed you have a Iowa plate on your wall. Are you originally from there?
Hi Dan, yes I'm from Iowa born and raised moved out here to Southern Nevada in 93 been here ever since.
Ok,nice I'm in southern Illinois. ...
Yesss been wanting this from you for years 😂
better late then never...lol should have part 2 out on Friday
@@martinbuilt can't wait. Wanted to do this for some time but I was too scared I'd mess up. Tg for your videos
