Same thing for when people cut the header panel to access the fan relay under the passenger headlight (although not as dangerous). Previous owner of my WJ did that, and cut right into the vacuum reservoir, causing a vacuum leak that took me way too long to find. It's quicker to take time to do it right than to do it wrong twice.
Nothing wrong with doing it that way if you know what your doing. Make a access cover bolted in place. My Buick LeSabre had a access cover in the trunk. Unbolted four bolts and it took me 20 minutes to replace.
HEY DAN, YOU DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE " FIX". BUT WHAT YOU DID WAS JUST CLEAN UP THE MESS THE PREVIOUS OWNER OR SOMEONE ELSE MADE! AFTER SAYING HOW DANGEROUS CUTTING A HOLE OR HAVING A CUT OUT FROM ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK IT IS? YOU WENT AHEAD AND JUST MADE A NICER ONE! THAT IS NOT REALLY RIGHT! THE RIGHT THING TO DO WOULD HAVE BEEN TO EITHER REPLACE THAT WHOLE SPACE TIRE PIECE OR AT THE LEAST GET SOME NEW SHEET METAL AND WELD IT NEW PIECE MAKING IT SEAMLESS AND FITTING IT LIKE IT CAME OUT OF THE FACTORY. YOUR HOLE DOES LOOK GOOD! : P BUT ITS STILL JUST A BETTER INSULATED AND LOOKING HOLE. ITS NOT SEALED THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. IF YOU DID WANT A HOLE THERE TO ACCESS THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH I AGREE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE THERE TO BEGIN WITH OUT OF THE FACTORY!? IT SHOULD BE DONE LIKE IT WOULD BE DONE IN THE FACTORY. COMPLETELY SAFE, SEALED AND OPERABLE WHEN NEEDED. WHAT YOU DID IS NOT EXACTLY THAT. FUMES CAN STILL ENTER YOUR VEHICLE FROM THE GAS TANK. AND LASTLY, WE ALL NEED TO ACCESS A HOLE AT TIMES! : P LOL........
Hi Dan I would say drop the gas ⛽️ tank but before you put the gas tank back in I think it would be nice to have an inspection door big enough to get that fuel pump out with out a bunch of trouble getting it out. Just so you know serval years ago my fuel pump went out. I had my GMC SONOMA 4.3 V6truck 1st towed to the dealer way over 1,000 dollars then I finally had my truck towed to a auto shop 750.00 that was still to much bet I bit the bullet and had them do it yes he should of used a little more safety buy removing the tank or at least lowering the gas tank and maybe removing the fuel out of the tank I probably would of removed all the fuel out of the gas tank and also if I could get my hand up where fuel pump was I would use some soap water that Dissolve gas so you wouldn't blow yourself up. And then make a small hole above the fuel pump big enough so you can see approximately how big of hole you need to cut in order to get that fuel pump out. Anyway I hope you kinda like my Idea 💡. I'm thinking about cutting a hole over my fuel pump and going to a junkyard and see if I could buy a small portion of a truck bed over lap the hole and put some self tapping bolts 🔩 in the bed.
Yea you might want to enlarge that hole and then cut metal out of your other Jeep and over lap the sheet metal. There is a tool out there you drill a hole then this device put in thread in the sheet metal. I was watching a video the other day you need a little muscle your titen the threads in to the metal. This person mentioned that he got this tool over at Harbor Freight. Most of the time I tell people to stay out of there. But if this tool did cost to much you might want this tool for other jobs.
While dropping the tank is best practice, I totally understand cutting to gain access. There is no reason why manufacturers can't make a sealed access door to the fuel pump. Not everyone has lifts and numerous jacks laying around. Also these Jeeps are very prone to rust which would make dropping the tank even harder or impossible. If anyone does do this, DO NOT use an angle grinder or anything that can spark. Seal it up properly and I don't see an issue. Stop scaring the shit out of people.
If you have the means and the balls to cut into your Jeep then you probably have a couple jacks and jack stands laying around. The fuel tank should be dropped and assessed for a rot especially in places Prone to rust. I'm sorry ,There's no good reason to chop a hole in the Jeep, especially right above a fuel tank where evap leaks are common.
Thankfully, you keep spare parts. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Love the Overland wheels like that spare. I'd love to put those on my DubJay.
Definitely! I found them on Facebook marketplace locally!
Turned out good Dan!!
Thank you brother!

Oh man! Incant stand hacks!
The best way to cut an access hole is to simply cut the entire spare tire well out, like you are doing a tank tuck, which is never a bad idea as well.
With the tank already dropped of course! Lol
I love the wheels Dan I’ve only the original ones on mine at least I haven’t got a hole in the spare tire bay 😂
Hahaha! Lucky!!!
My very first vehicle 02 grand Cherokee limited v8 I got it when I was 16 and now I’m 22 still have it! my first truck 1988 jeep Comanche 4.0 4x4
That's awesomse! Keep em forever!
Don't cut into your fuel tanks!!!
AGREED!!👍👍👍👍👍

Another great job - well done
Thank you! Cheers!
No you didn't over Complicate it you did the right thing thanks
❤️💪
Wow Dan you just amazed me buy using the nut serts that I was trying to explain to you to get I must of read your mind hahahahaha 😅 great job sir.
Hahah! Great minds ....
Haha, they gave the gas tank a Columbian neck tie 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Nice Job👍 Doing things Properly
I had one the bolts were so rusted the nut inserts broke loose when trying to remove hitch
How much for the spare skid plate? My WJ is in dire need of one lol
You gotta love it 🙄 now i have seen it all.... hopefully the spare tank i gave you works on that jeep if u haven't used it yet
Bro! Many of your parts have saved my butt! You're the man!
@@ProjectDanH I'm glad to hear that and if you need anything in the future and don't have it ,never hesitate to ask . If i have it its yours
Nice save, and you still have an access hole. Interesting place for a fuel filter. What year is this WJ?
HOW DID YOU FIX THE TANK??
Wow Dan talking about a hack job he could at least paint the bare steel and tried to get a little sheet metal and primed that as well.
Lazy previous owners!

I just made a simple template!

Engine blew
@@ProjectDanH shitty... I must have missed that update... Why not swap engines then?

Wow Dan I'm wondering if you should of had a dust mask 😷 you need prottect your lungs 🫁 for sure there the only ones you have.
Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated!
Should have just welded it back in .
Then there wouldn't be an access hole. 🤷

@@ProjectDanHveryy gooddddd♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
How does cutting up your Jeep constitute blowing up.....???
Sometimes you need to think before you speak that way you don't sound stupid later
What is this massacre !
Simply remove 10 screws and disconnect 2 hoses and the tank is on the ground.
Yep
