I like how this bike isn't perfectly restored and it shows the oil stains of being used....just like Dick Mann wanted them to be! And, though I greatly miss both Pete and John Ford, I'm happy that this bike is still being used regularly (It's what Pete and John would want) . Great bike for the AHRMA Premier Heavyweight Trials class! Cool bike! Well done Bill!

In fact, you've provided the incentive I needed to kick me in the butt and make a bunch of these bikes that have been hanging around the shop run and ridable again! Also, that Trials Gold Star has a BSA B44 swingarm and the final drive has been converted to 428 chain and sprockets (a stock Gold Star came with 530 chain and sprockets). Back in those early days of building vintage competition bikes for customers, Dick put maximum effort into each build to make them the very best they could be. Up soon, Pete Ford's BSA Gold Star Scrambler as shown in the short clip from DeAnza? Just let me know.....

A nice cold Lucky Lager brewed in the City would have been a good choice , but hey I can dream " Right "? What a bike , I am of the age when I got to see Dick Mann many times on the mile in Sacramento and Santa Rosa and he was one of my hero's in the day . Beautiful bike for sure .

Super video, Thank you. I have a 1955 version of that bike pretty much as it left Armoury Road except for Akront rims. I can't ride it anymore but I can;t bring myself to part with it. Regards Edward

Greatest Beezer of all times. The new MAHINDRA 650 is a joke. Dick Mann also built 500 Gold Star MX bike w/ tiny battery and " total loss " electrical system that would only last one moto.

@@wheelhousegarage Whitey Banks also won some U.S. open class, inter ams on Mr. Mann's MX'er. It was a thrill to hear the thunderous 4 stroke amongst all those Sukes, Kaws, huskys and Maicos. Specially w/ Whitey out front by 10 lengths! Finally succumbed to Roger DeCoster , late in the season. If I remember correctly. I was in the 250 and 175 classes in AMA district 18 back then. Would cut off an old family jewel to ride that Gold star!!!
When BSA wanted to discontinue the Gold Star in the 50's the dealers said no singles then no twins so BSA reconsidered their decision. Luca discontinued the Magdyno so BSA had no choice but to stop production.

Smashing bike. I find Black Sheep bitter a bit bland but I’ll try that beer. Sadly, Goldies are out of my budget but I do have a ‘54 ES2 Norton that no one wants to buy……..😎

Race fuel only - no ethanol. I'm new to this vintage trials but keen to follow. Does the Matchless g80cs also only use race fuel or can standard E5 or E10 with an Additive mix added in be fine?
