    0:19 speed boost drawback
    1:04 spin to lose defender + good speed boost & Deke
    1:56 dump puck
    3:02 draw penalty
    3:33 vision control + wrist shot
    4:35 protect puck button
    *Also note that NHL 22 added a reverse hit (for offense players) with the protect puck button shown at 4:35 here is more information on that:

    The poke is so OP in this years game. All i see is players straight lining towards you with RB held down. This needs to be fixed, yes the poke should work and doesn't need a nerfing. However poor use of it needs to result in more Penalties

    • @garydevries5961
      @garydevries5961  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it seems like most of the penalties are only being called if one poke checks from behind. Although, I think one can also tweak the penalties frequency for offline play not sure about online though.

      If trying to score short-handed, look to attack on defense by covering passing Lanes and going for poke checks or stick lifts. Basically, look to exploit opponent tendencies whether AI or human.

      Thanks. Less turnovers and longer possession times usually translates into a better chance of winning. . . . or at least it gives one more chances to score and the opponent less chances is the score. 🏒🥅

    It's insanely infuriating at times. Sometimes a player can be idle and my team will be completely unable to steal the puck from the opponents unless I drill them into the ice. Other times my team turns it over almost on purpose. It's very inconsistent. Going to try your tricks tonight.

    • @garydevries5961
      @garydevries5961  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. My favorite 2 tricks are knowing when to stop using the speed boosts and change to a deke as well as the back shoulder trick combined with a speed boost for separation.

      @@ZPOLLAK nah, it's mostly the same. Usually will change like one thing and a camera angle. I do have the PS5 version so it loads a lot faster then the PS4 version I had last year. Here's a playlist of videos I made on

      I should also have one for NHL 22 as well somewhere on this channel under playlist. If you're looking to get 23, I would wait till the price drops. Another option is to skip 23 and maybe get NHL 24 around Christmas time as most places like to run sales at $30- $40. Thanks 🏒🥅

    I don't get it. I'm playing on the PS5, and everytime I play my nephew (both are skills are elite rookie status. haha. We know how to play but NEVER do any special tricks.)
    But when I play him, all he has to do is tap my guy, and he always gets the puck from me, and yet when I try to get the puck from him, I hit him, I poke check, and he somehow always maintains it. Even when I poke check it, most the time it just pokes it back to him. But I've had him double or triple teamed against the wall, and he still maintains it almost always. It's so beyond annoying. He hits me, touches me, he gets it everytime. I do everything, and he maintains it.

    • @garydevries5961
      @garydevries5961  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the tap part may have something to do with using the speed boost. I would switch to a deke when getting close to making contact with a defenseman. If a player receives it hid sometimes a penalty gets called depending on what the game settings are. 🏒🥅🎮

      @@garydevries5961 - I think I'm always holding L3 down, ha. So you said you think it's cause I'm holding it down?
      And I NEVER deke. Like I said, we play a lot, but never have tried to use any skill stuff. ha. I know, lame.
      I'll try it out.
      And on one part of the video, you said use X to hold on to the puck... I believe my X is pass.

    • @garydevries5961
      @garydevries5961  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ryanbush3153 yeah, if one is holding down the speed boost. Basically, all one needs to do is touch them and they will turn over the puck. I will typically let off the speed boost and try to make a deke or protect the puck with x before making contact. I would also recommend letting go of the speed boost before taking a shot on goal to improve the accuracy of the shot 🏒🥅. If by chance you're looking for more tips on NHL 23:

    The stealing in this game is way to much. You can’t stick handle cuz then you loose speed which is dumb and they just skate infront of you and ez steal or hit.

    • @garydevries5961
      @garydevries5961  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One possibility, if playing offline, is to go into settings and change the frequency of puck handling or other items like that.

      @@RickGrimes.. my best friend plays this type of game against me. To counter I will typically working on either deke right or left. Also, will hold x to protect the puck. Idea is there will be a penalty called a certain percentage of the time. Another move that I found works very well against him as well as the computer is to skate backwards normal speed and then see which side his player is on. If the defender is on the right side of the puck handler, I will roll the player to the left and then use R3 for speed boost. If defender is on the left of the puck handler, I will roll my player to the right and then use the speed boost for separation. Different variations of this can also be used when handling the puck in the offensive zone. Best way for me to learn is in practice mode with the AI at all star and then look at the replays to see if it was done correctly. Thanks and good luck.
