Great perspectives and knowledge dropped here (a lot of jewels). Like the comparison between Jobs and Gates as well. As someone that has done tons of interviews for Network resources, you're right as well. A lot of us tend to rather have someone that seems to have the right intangibles, thirst for knowledge, and we can see ourselves working with as advantages over someone with a lot of book knowledge, but seems like they may hurt the team with personality or "all about me mentalities" (you'd be surprised at how you can sense/read those things when interviewing someone). So certs aren't a requirement, but simply stating "I'm working towards obtaining my --- insert cert here -- and hope to achieve it in "x" months and will then continue to pursue "y" can demonstrate that someone has the motivation to gain knowledge. Keep dropping them gems and appreciate you.
Yes I have a bachelors in a different field. I say focus on certs and gaining experience. Criminology is a good asset to have especially going into Cybersecurity you can go into forensics, or threat intelligence or even cybercrime
How did you get your cyber security job? What was your route? What skills did you acquire for your first role?
I'd like to know well. Also, what is the work/life balance like? On-call rotation?
I’ll make a video on this
