The Power of CTF's in Cybersecurity | DoD Cyber Sentinel Skills Challenge

Capture The Flag (CTF's) are pretty known within the Cybersecurity Field. However, they are also very good for learning and building skills and knowledge in a way that make learning fun, especially if you are a gamer. I believe we should use CTF's as a tool to learn & have fun. We can do it by competing with others like minded people or as a individual that just wants to learn. We should take a...

The answer is simple.. everyone’s path is different. What might’ve worked for one may not work for someone else. Glad i found this
Oh nice u moved up to a SOC Analyst! How long were u in help desk till this transition??
I was in HD about 16 months
Aaah so inspiring you do tech and music also this is what I’m planning to do as I’m an artist/producer myself
Go for it!
Did you go to university for Cybersecurity? Im working on getting my Security+ and looking to get my foot in the door <3 - Anthony from Canada
Yes I did but it’s not mandatory, I have a video on how to get into cybersecurity where I explained how I transitioned
Your vibe is dope ! Thank you for this info!
Did you used to work for Google?
No I did not, I wish !
@@whois.ViciousChxld o dang, you look like one of the instructors on the Google Cybersecurity certificate program. Would've been a crazy coincidence haha
Yeah definitely lol
Can we get IT helpdesk role REMOTELY while working from India?
Yes, you just have to find jobs that allow international work
Can I get into the google IT tech support training course without a diploma or GED?
Sorry I'm late but yes
@@whois.ViciousChxld ok great and thank you.
Congrats on finishing your first competition, and gaining that valuable experience (strengths/weaknesses/etc) will definitely help you bridge the gap. It's a lifelong thing in this IT arena, and you definitely seem to self-motivate/inspire yourself, so the sky's the limit for you. You're right about the number of tools out there, and of course seemingly new one's coming out all the time. Great video sharing your experience, thoughts and knowledge and looking forward to the next one.
Thank you! Will do!
Do you think it's too late join IT with 35 yrs old ?
It’s never too late for anything!
Congratulations!!! Thank you for the help and good luck on your journey!!
I'm sorry if you answered the question already but from when you had completed the google Coursera cert to the point where you got your first help desk job how much time had passed or you had put in at that point?
It was about 4 months after I got the Google Cert
thank you for replying…I appreciate the feedback…continue being awesome during your journey 👍🏾
Thank you I appreciate you! Good luck on your journey as well
Much success to you. I hope you will be able to look back at this video at some point down the line and be the successful person you're striving to be. 👍🏾
I also did a course for cybersecurity professional certification and obtained a certificate but not getting any invitation for an interview I always apply for a job in LinkedIn but not working😢
Super helpful you did awesome,I'm 46 transitioning from maintenance tech to IT and I start school in three weeks I'm going to watch all your vids and taken all the advice you given to strst a foundation before I even get into class thank you much.
Keep it up! Cyber and Tech is Awesome! ✌🏽😎
Always!
Brazil here 🇧🇷
Wonder how ur doing now?
Great story!
Are you working cyber security from home?
Yes
I love your well arranged set of white teeth and your calming voice 👌
Great video, thanks. I'm also a music producer, was thinking of doing cyber security. This video helped boost my spirit to get into it.
Very informative, thank you!
How did you get your cyber security job? What was your route? What skills did you acquire for your first role?
I'd like to know well. Also, what is the work/life balance like? On-call rotation?
I’ll make a video on this
Great video, great advice, great resources. I'm on Google Cybersecurity Certificate right now. I sure subscribed to your channel. Wish you a great and amazing things on your journey.
Welcome aboard!
Thank you for this information. Plenty of gems in this. I appreciate you
Great perspectives and knowledge dropped here (a lot of jewels). Like the comparison between Jobs and Gates as well. As someone that has done tons of interviews for Network resources, you're right as well. A lot of us tend to rather have someone that seems to have the right intangibles, thirst for knowledge, and we can see ourselves working with as advantages over someone with a lot of book knowledge, but seems like they may hurt the team with personality or "all about me mentalities" (you'd be surprised at how you can sense/read those things when interviewing someone). So certs aren't a requirement, but simply stating "I'm working towards obtaining my --- insert cert here -- and hope to achieve it in "x" months and will then continue to pursue "y" can demonstrate that someone has the motivation to gain knowledge. Keep dropping them gems and appreciate you.
I 100% agree! Thanks for the comment🙏🏾
Hey Vicious. Appreciate the video. Do you know how tough it is to go into a junior cybersecurity role? I did take the Google IT support cert and have 8 months of helpdesk experience. Now I'm currently jobless and studying for my certs. I think I want to try to pursue a network analyst role first before going into cybersecurity
Junior Cybersecurity roles can be tough because even though they say “entry level” sometimes they still want 2-3 years of experience
Yeah, I would probably study for Network+ or CCNA, etc. & get into a Networking job first. It will help you have the foundation on knowing Networking, which will help for Security. But if you REALLY wanna jump into security right away, you can just study some Network+ stuff real quick and then get a Security Cert. (I forget the best ones, KevTech has some good interviews with people in Cyber-Security who mention good certs & resources)
Great video...Was your first helpdesk job remote and did you get the job by using a contracting agency? Also are you remote now working in Cybersecurity?
Yes I was remote when I got my first helpdesk job and still remote with my cybersecurity job as it’s with same company. I found this particular company on indeed. I wouldn’t limit my job search to indeed sometimes you have to go on companies individual career page to find things too
Hey, what if you have a degree in a completely different field like criminology, would they look at that
Yes I have a bachelors in a different field. I say focus on certs and gaining experience. Criminology is a good asset to have especially going into Cybersecurity you can go into forensics, or threat intelligence or even cybercrime
@@whois.ViciousChxld thanks
💯💪🏾
Subscribed!! Your story of how you came up is awesome! I also was into making beats, music production, and engineering. It's still a passion of mine, I invested a lot of time, and of course money. But I'm a nerd first lol, computers, and anything tech was always my thing. I'm currently in the web3 space, learning how to hack smart contracts, and learning about security. I might want to try TryHackMe, just to see what I do remember, I used to study Network Admin a few years ago.
That’s dope!! Keeping it up!
thanks for this video. Studyig for CCNA wish me luck.
Best of luck!
How is your studies going? Is the CCNA much harder than the Net+?
@@rubanm4026 CCNA is a bit harder, but there is a lot of overlap. CCNA is like everything from Network+ but then they add some Cisco specific stuff on top. Network+ is vendor neutral, while CCNA is Cisco.
stay blessed young blood
Love the video! I recently took the big jump... My friend just landed a 6 figure job as a pen tester. And I finally said to myself I need to grind. Just started using hackthebox academy and also enrolled into WGU for a BA in cyber security. People make it look easy and I've always been a tech lover but its hard, but I'm determined to learn this and honestly its fun. Thank you for the tips!
That is awesome! I wish you all the best! Yeah a lot people make it look easy but it’s not
Ohhh I get it, your introduction Lil vicious!!! Love it!! Dang bring lil vicious energy back.
Almost finished the Google SOC analyst course with no experience
Congratulations!!! You got it!
Though you’re a beginner, you tackled this video like a pro. Really appreciate the insight. I’m in the infancy stages of my journey to cybersecurity and I appreciate your perspective.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey, sis, great video. I'm definitely subscribed. I already have my A+ and I want to test on google it support certificate. Does it cost money to take the exam? If I take the 7 day trial does it includes the exam?
Yes you can do the free trial for 7 days and take the certificate for free
Now that's what I needed! Thanks ✊🏿
@@locumaniaHi there! Have you managed to finish the course during the free period? If so, hope you cancelled your subscription for the course, otherwise, you will get charged. Atleast that's what happened to me. I finish the course during the free period but I was still charged. I had to prove my case and in the end I was refunded. I was told because I was new to the platform (coursera) and that was my 1st course, they would refund me, but I should be aware of that in the future, to cancel the course as soon as it's completed.
What are some good resources to look into for passing the A+?
An IG ad popped up for free CompTIA A+ lessons and exam vouchers. Now I just need to pass Core 2 to get certified.
Appreciate the mention. The Google IT Support course is a great course to learn fundamentals. What also helps is building a homelab and volunteering. Get some skills and experience on the resume.
100% agreed!
Volunteer where
@blazwilson7243 plenty of cybersecurity conferences that ask for volunteers. Just need to search online. Bsides is one.
Great vid💯. I'm starting my journeyto get into IT but I have one concern. Do most companiescare if you have hand tattoos?
I personally work from home but I think it’ll depend what industry you’re working in. Most won’t know what you look like as far as tattoos until you meet in person.
I was sick of dealing with them damn customers, but wanted to get in the computers, so I just started the Google Cyber security course a couple months ago. Almost done. I appreciate the helpful content and good luck on ya journey ✊🏽! Stay up!
Appreciate you, good luck on your journey as well
I hollered when I read your comment. LOL. Dealing with customers is a nuisance ...LOL.
Who gone tell him that users are his new customers 🤣
@@SuperHiRaMMAt least there would be like a Customer success or Account manager who interacts with the customer directly not him anymore. Dealing with customers is stressful and I am also looking at pivoting into cybersecurity because I don’t want to have to relate with some rude disgruntled customers.
Good video! Well put and done ✔️
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing your story and these tips you have provided.
Glad you like them!
HUH
You'll continue to "grow your tribe," and folks will support and follow you for both (passion for music and breaking into tech and sharing your journey). I'm not big on social media either (FB been deactivated for like 5 years), so I can feel you there. Refreshing channel and message to hear, so definitely keep being original and just sharing what comes to mind. Glad to support.
That's what's up and great story/journey that you shared. Cool that you kept going (learning and studying) while applying and interviewing and gaining confidence and knowledge of what would be asked in future interviews as well. A lot of folks do get discouraged and give up after a few interviews without offers, so it is dope to hear. New to the channel and I'll check out some more of your content. Keep doing your thing and know that the best is yet to come!
Appreciate that man. God bless you!
Studying for my comptia a+ now. Good video💯
Good luck on your journey! Congratulations on passing in advance!
Gf luck in your journey. Just started revising n please any resources you are using?
@user-ft5rx3cg5t thanks bro, i watched professor messer's video's and been using chatgpt to help me make study guides, and I am also thinking about getting the pocket prep app so i can do all my practices questions before i take my test. Good Luck 💪🏽
@@whois.ViciousChxld thank you!
@@bobo_optimisticturbo00 What do you need? Like stuff to study for CompTIA A+?? If you are taking the A+ i highly recommend buying some practice tests for like $10-$20 on Udemy. The free practice tests online suck & aren't as close to the actual test.
Needed this video. Subbed ⭐
