Dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 3 was by far my most favorite of the 3d dbz fighting games. It has so many characters and I loved all the wacky matches you could do. I also enjoyed the gameplay. Great video and analysis.
This game wins over all other DB game because of the SENSATIONS you got playing it. It is so fluid, man. 10+ years and I still enjoy it. Nowadays game have to be competitive and complex, but they lack these "casual" components. Not every person in this world has time to master their skills with a game before actually enjoying it (like for FighterZ, a good game, but not so casual). This game was casual, but fun and full of things.

I can understand why casuals prefer tenkaichi because it's easy to get into but I don't see anything wrong with competitive as well long as the game balancing isn't too bad
@@EXFOOLYCOOLY FighterZ balance is not great right now but I otherwise agree with your points. BT3 was more accessible and captured the essence of Dragon Ball probably better than any other title
@@EXFOOLYCOOLY I don't considers fighterz a bad game, I just feel its mechanics doesn't fit in something you can call Dragonball. Take Tenkaichi as exemple: it seems a game modeled after the anime. They took inspiration for mechanics entirely from dragonball. Flaws or not, it feels being Dragonball, and people love it because of this, despite its problems. What I get from fighterz is the opposite. They already have mechanics models from other similiar games and thought "Let's fuse this mechanics with dragonball". Result: a good game, but which feels not a dragonball game. I feel a weird sensation playing that game, like it was an artificial reduction of what dragonball is. Personally, if I had to imagine a dragonball fighting game, Tenkaichi is what is closer to its essence. FighterZ is just a game who resembles street fighter/MK in gameplay but has DB characters. Nothing to say about it being better on the competitive side, or better in balacing etc. but for me this isn't enough, because it just doesn't feel dragonball. I'm not against the game existance because it's a good thing for people who likes it. It's just that we need a pure dragonball game too
This game comes the closest to putting you into the DragonballZ feeling with how fluent the combat is. Nothing's come close in my mind, and it's crazy to think how long ago this came out, how many console generations ago it was, and that it still hasn't been remastered or even continued.
you and me both crazy how the other dragonballz budokias got a remake but they skipped over this one for some reason, hopefully one day they will remake it.
Damn, I understood that PERFECTLY 🤣💯 I get more of a DBZ quick and intense feel from those 2 even though this one gives a much more cinematic and big experience
FighterZ and Budokai 3 don't even belong in the same category. A DBZ game that doesn't have beam clashes, sonic sway, and super/ultimate attack deflects is just a cheap skin and cash grab. No matter how good it LOOKS.
@@Cautious_Gamer You have got to be high if you think FighterZ is a cash grab. Hands down the best DragonBall Z game without question. Bet you got bodied by someone and now you just shit talk the game.
@@LordRaiden242 tbf i see his point. I personally didn't like fighterz for some of the same reasons but I can't deny that it is a deep and complex fighter easily on the level of Capcom fighters while budokai 3 can be pretty unbalanced with characters like Broly and Omega Shenron.
I know I have a golden childhood thanks to this masterpiece of a game. My dad used to have a ps2 and this was his only multiplayergame, add to that the fact that he was passionnated by dbz and ofc me and my brother had to follow his ideas. When we were at his place, we used to wake up rlly early just to get a few hours playing the gorgeous shit, this games means a lot.
Loved this game. My friend and I would practice the hardest combos of all characters including SSJ4 Gogeta's crazy one. Xenoverse never got me as excited as this game.
Another amazing informative video, one of my issues with BT3 videos on youtube is how many people simply overpraise and talk about their nostalgia with the game, but you took your time to talk about the gameplay and combat and how vast it is and how each character is very different from the other which is something i talk a lot about too, like Goku (end) plays a bit heavy and slow and more Ki focused compared to Goku (mid) despite being literaly the same person. Now i hope you get to try the Last PS2 DBZ game if you didnt, Infinite World which most people consider Budokai 4.
Thanks for watching all 3 videos and I'm gad you enjoyed them. Infinite World is defiantly a game I want to cover at some point. I never got to play it and I'm interested to see if it's as good as budokai 3.
One of the things you mentioned which I dont see too many people mention is the ability for an anime game to truly capture the feel of the anime through gameplay. People love Dragon Ball FighterZ but I dont think a 2D game truly captures the nature of combat in dbz. Many anime games are more or less 2D fighting games with an anime skin over them. You really have to master aerial movement in this game. I love how if you get knocked down you have to look for your oponent to lock on, Scouters are the fastest at locking on, but if you get damaged your scouter breaks and you have very weak lock on and cant see the person through objects. People who can sense ki can lock on through objects but its slower, things like that. Im curious to how you feel about xenoverse 2 and how it captures the dragonball Z combat experience. Raging blast seems like a continuation of the budokai tenkaichi series though allthough I hate the graphics for Raging Blast 2. I plan on making a video about Dragonball the breakers soon tm which will be very much in the vein of how it captures the feel of the anime.
played almost every DBZ game on ps2 era and still to this date, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will always be my favorite so many memories created with that game!!
The opening and game play is more of a preference. I personally like the 3-D looks for the openings more than the 2-D Toon versions. BT2 was my first love, and BT3 will forever be my waifu
The thing about Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is that while it is a great Dragonball Z game, it is undeniably, by a wide margin the best OG Dragonball game. By far the biggest roster of the old school guys, with special dialogue and full movesets, is something that you just never see again
My only problem with the game was how the story mode was so incomplete missing almost half of it that if you've never watched the series you'll most likely be confused with what's happening. The cutscenes were also dumbed down that they can only show 2 characters in a cutscene.
The game is fun but if you haven't watched the series and you're the type of person to play anime games instead of watch then I suggest finding another game for that
It's for what if so they don't repeat the same thing over and over. Every mission has a ton of what if scenarios built in. The broly mission I lost to broky and got an ending. I beat broky with goku and got an ending, I survived until roshi came then beat broky with roshi and got an ending.
Dude, you could literally defeat Super Perfect Cell as SSJ2 Gohan before allowing any cutscenes to appear. By not finishing a level of the story mode as intended, you will receive extra lines of the characters!
A remake for this game sounds nice until you remember how older games are prone to get changed from the original by modern devs, an HD port with online matchmaking and higher refresh rate would be safer to ask for. I like this game but tenkaichi 2's soundtrack is way better than 3's
The amount of characters put into this game is insane I love how each one has a different fighting style and different ultimate moves, my only complaint is how the minor z fighters have the same type of ultimate move like a generic chi or just a beam and most of them aren't that effective in any way especially when you're in a fighting area that has obstacles as cover overall I think it's one of the best dbz games that pretty much has any character you could ask for, since dbz games nowadays have dlcs that you have to buy.
This really takes me back, thanks for the great vid. Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 really kept me occupied for most of my kid life when I wasn't outside. Now at 28, I've bought a PS2 again and I'll be playing these 2 masterpieces with my 2 sons tonight. 🖤❤
I don't know if it works on the Playstation but on the wii you can perform and instant transmission kamehameha. I mean not the special move, you can charge your attack while people think you're too far to be a threat and then use your natural IT and blast them.
That opening was so great, also correct me if I am wrong but I think the training was interactive for the new editions to the game. It was split up into Beginner, intermediate and advanced moves. At least on the ps2 version
Yeah in some parts it has you doing stuff. I ended up editing down the part where I talk about the tutorial because it was too long but I kinda of regret how I did it because it doesn't convey it very well.
I remember playing Tenkaichi for the first time and thinking the same thing as you, that it was just a sequel to the Budokai games I had come to love. Upon playing it I enjoyed this new style of game but I found it extremely difficult for my 9 year old little brain to comprehend all the complex combos and new move sets. I remember not being able to get past a certain level in the story and just giving up on it and never playing the sequels because I was kind of scared of how hard the original was (lol). I desperately want to play Tenkaichi 2 and 3 now to see what I missed out on but they’re going for ridiculous prices right now and I don’t feel like spending that much on a single game, hopefully they’ll come out with a remaster soon! Love the vid!
That sad man and you can’t find this game on physical without it being in the triple digits. I have a copy I cherish to this day. I seen a copy in 2nd Charles for $110.00 dollars!!! And some copies online are 200+. It’s rarer than budokai 3 to find.
Same here I used to play it when I was little but only at my cousin's house I barely bought it not that long ago from ebay and it was like 80 bucks without the box lol but it was worth it
I was so addicted to this game that i ended up in a winning streak that resulted in none of my friends wanting to play againt me anymore. Eventually, At school a classmate arranged a battle with someone who had the same issue. He was the first challenge in a long time, but i still ended up winning. tho it could have gone either way if i'd let my guard down. That was the last time I played the game consistently. Not long after that I stopped playing.
I think Tenkaichi 3 is a rare example of ticking all the boxes you have at the start of game development. It does everything and there's so many ideas that were executed on that just made the game so feature rich. Seeing the models in Legends makes me want a Tenkaichi remaster with dlc so bad
I think you are approaching this from the angle! Heck, I didn't even care about the training, I played the game for so many years, but I just learned as I go, and I didn't even play the first two, I just went with 3, and learned as I go. Training, at the time is not a big deal, but I do think you are taking a modern take on it, which is, I'm not sure how to feel about! Nonetheless, best game ever. (DBZ wise).
Don't even gotta watch the video to answer that. One of the best fighting games ever made hands down. It's so good even years later copies are selling for $200+.
Imagine they did the remake. and implemented online duels :D this game has Best fighting style and mechanic ever, easy yet hard to master looks simple but its deep. As a kid i played so much of it with a friend, that we almost perfect blocked (forgot how it was called , but you could block almost everything if ur timing was right ) each other all the time ahh good days
this video is probably the most well made video on this game although i kinda wish more people talked about the advanced/competitive aspects of combat combat techniques like -1 supers (super attacks that are unavoidable from certain ranges) and perfect/semi-flanking (using jump + dash and descend to get behind your opponent) just to name a few basic ones.
I have been apart of an AI League that uses this game for like 7 years now and I can say without a doubt it's one of the funnest games to play, and watch. There's so many characters, so many modes, and a surprising amount of depth to its customization system. So much so that we are still finding out new things about how the game, its customization system, and the ai works.
Oh man had the best time with this game, my best friend and myself always versed eachother, and had great laughs. Yes this is the best DBZ game. Even better then DBZ Kakarat. Not only did it have the DBZ sagas, it even had the GT sagas as well. The characters u could choose to play as was insane. I miss this game so much man. It's the best fighting game I have ever played.
I remember when I got this game. 4th grade end of grading period got all 100s and got to buy a game. Played it all the way til highschool. Future Gohan with the Z-soul that let's you infinitely basic attack while full power was my favorite
I really enjoyed this video. Man..I walked away from TH-cam so long ago but I love seeing new creators bringing such awesome content like this. This was great, keep it up! (Also, I hear "Rain" in the background! Would love an FMA video from you)
If the stars align and we somehow get an official bt4, it would be really cool to see newer models like in db kakarot, but with the same classic cinematic style of the budokai/infinite world series
Man, I got Tenkaichi 1 on launch too and it sucked, but I got Tenkaichi 2 on launch too and I was roped back in. Love these games. Wish there was a Steam version.
Playing this on Wii was amazing, making the techniques movements with the wiimote. Also the clashes were easier to perform with the Nunchuk instead of the stick.
Loving all these videos suddenly popping up in my feed that acknowledge the king of DBZ games. I've been saying for years that nothing since Tenkaichi 3 has been worth your time, with the exception of FighterZ.
It is but could not be made today. To play alone or with friends it’s unmatched but for multiplayer you know that there will abusers of the stun spam. They’ll just do the stun blow then a punch then stun then punch. Rinse repeat until the enemy is dead. Also there are moves you can do with 2 ki bars and all you have to do is hit them and the time it takes for them to get up you’ve already charged 2 bars and can unleash the spam.
With the 15th anniversary of this game passing not too long ago. I will still say this is one of the best DBZ games ever. Til this day I still have a hard time picking between Budokai 3 or Tenkaichi 3 as the best DBZ game ever.
Do not sleep on the training mode. The basic controls are slides, but when you unlock the advanced training the game uses gameplay to teach you ALOT of hidden combos .. please try it!! Please !!
I still remember at 9-10 going into the training battles and practicing as ssj2-3 goku vs level 5 kid buu. Had to make sure I was able to whoop any ones ass that sat down to play lmao

you and me both crazy how the other dragonballz budokias got a remake but they skipped over this one for some reason, hopefully one day they will remake it.
Youre in luck
Budokai 3 will always have a special place in my heart.
Budokai 3 or Budokai Tenkaichi 3?
Budokai 3 is the best one. Not tenkaichi 3. The psp ones shin budokai were also amazing.
@@j6027 budokai 3 was flawed do too that hyper armor into rush. Slowed the whole game down or put you into a rock paper match
Infinite world is where it's at
If you wanna play a Dragonball Z game, you play Tenka 3. If you wanna play a Dragonball Z fighting game, you play Budokai 3 or Fighter Z.
Tenka 3 has better fighting system than budo 3 or fighter z
@@HiddenChannel you should try it, if has its flaws but its the best way they ended the budokai series with
One of the things you mentioned which I dont see too many people mention is the ability for an anime game to truly capture the feel of the anime through gameplay.
I haven't played any of the xenoverse games
The visuals for Xenoverse were too distracting for me. Between the lock on indicator and all the shininess I find it takes away from the immersion
played almost every DBZ game on ps2 era
and still to this date, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will always be my favorite
so many memories created with that game!!
5:23 I remember when I first played this game as a kid and I discovered what button was R3... First transformation I ever did was Android 13
I don't know if it works on the Playstation but on the wii you can perform and instant transmission kamehameha. I mean not the special move, you can charge your attack while people think you're too far to be a threat and then use your natural IT and blast them.
I didn’t know that after all these years
Woah
For real?? I want to see that, that's dope 💯
this is true on ps2 as well.
can only be with goku beginning (or goku mid) with ss1, i think?
That opening was so great, also correct me if I am wrong but I think the training was interactive for the new editions to the game. It was split up into Beginner, intermediate and advanced moves. At least on the ps2 version
Yeah in some parts it has you doing stuff. I ended up editing down the part where I talk about the tutorial because it was too long but I kinda of regret how I did it because it doesn't convey it very well.
This game was the reason why I got into anime as well as video games. Love my uncle for giving me this gift when I was like 5
I love how your clothes take battle damage, that's a cool detail too
I remember playing Tenkaichi for the first time and thinking the same thing as you, that it was just a sequel to the Budokai games I had come to love.
I love this video. So information dense and funny!
Soon you will be a dbz expert, without having experienced any of it lol
"Maybe you're weaker than I thought or maybe I'm stronger than I realize." -Piccolo, Raging Blast. Realist line ever!!!
The Tenkaichi games are classics, but Budokai 3 remains the king.
I remember how badly I wanted this game as a kid but never got it. I only had BT2. Thank God for emulators
Oh yeah emulator's just makes things so much more accessible
That sad man and you can’t find this game on physical without it being in the triple digits. I have a copy I cherish to this day. I seen a copy in 2nd Charles for $110.00 dollars!!! And some copies online are 200+. It’s rarer than budokai 3 to find.
Same here I used to play it when I was little but only at my cousin's house I barely bought it not that long ago from ebay and it was like 80 bucks without the box lol but it was worth it
@@HiddenChannel don't tell Nintendo that
@@3rdwavemedia906 I bought this game for ps2 a couple years ago for 15€
This game is the GOAT.
Also, mastering the instant transformation dudge is a muscle memory I carry 10 years later.
Seeing the models in Legends makes me want a Tenkaichi remaster with dlc so bad
i personally liked tenkaichi 2 more for its more in depth story mode, but 3 was the better at combat. have great memories with both.
There was a training mode that showed u how to actually fight/dodge etc
Not only dialoge
I love how people are bringing this game up again, this game definetly needs a remaster
WE'RE BACK BABY TENKAICHI 4 ANNOUNCED SS4GOGETA VS UI GOKU SOON WHO WILL BE MORE BROKEN
You should try out the Tenkaichi 4 fan-made that released it's English version some months ago.
Played It Yesterday with a friend,i fell in love with DBS Broly, too strong!!!
This is one of my favourite fighters of all time! Thanks for showing some respect to this Gem of a game.
Thanks for watching :D
I think you are approaching this from the angle!
Heck, I didn't even care about the training, I played the game for so many years, but I just learned as I go, and I didn't even play the first two, I just went with 3, and learned as I go.
Training, at the time is not a big deal, but I do think you are taking a modern take on it, which is, I'm not sure how to feel about!
Nonetheless, best game ever. (DBZ wise).
That intro was absolutely amazing. Good shit
9:40 well, now we know how vegita feels.
Excelente review, I didn't expected such a good analisis, and the music at the end was 🔥
Really good video, love the editing. It really takes me back to those long nights playing with my friends
Just recently found this channel and I wanna say the editing gags in these videos are great.
3:21 in this vid is probably my favorite.
lemme save you all some time. Short answer, YES. long answer, YESSSSSSSSSS
All 3 of us Dbz Burst Limit fans will congregate here
Hello, I'm here for the Burst Limit fan congregation. Are there snacks?
Don't even gotta watch the video to answer that. One of the best fighting games ever made hands down. It's so good even years later copies are selling for $200+.
Imagine they did the remake. and implemented online duels :D this game has Best fighting style and mechanic ever, easy yet hard to master looks simple but its deep. As a kid i played so much of it with a friend, that we almost perfect blocked (forgot how it was called , but you could block almost everything if ur timing was right ) each other all the time ahh good days
I want to thank you for reminding me how wonderful my childhood was! I had forgotten all about this great game! ❤
this video is probably the most well made video on this game although i kinda wish more people talked about the advanced/competitive aspects of combat combat techniques like -1 supers (super attacks that are unavoidable from certain ranges) and perfect/semi-flanking (using jump + dash and descend to get behind your opponent) just to name a few basic ones.
Love DBZ League. I wish it got more recognition! It's really fun to watch.
That intro alone was worth the like
All they need is remaster this gem and add the super saga as dlc and I wouldn’t ask for another dbz game
Right?
Oh man had the best time with this game, my best friend and myself always versed eachother, and had great laughs. Yes this is the best DBZ game. Even better then DBZ Kakarat. Not only did it have the DBZ sagas, it even had the GT sagas as well. The characters u could choose to play as was insane. I miss this game so much man. It's the best fighting game I have ever played.
I grew up on Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and it remains my favorite to this day. The story mode is fantastic.
the couch co-op 5v5 30min long fights while high af was life changing, hope bt4 is an upgrade on this games formula
Yo that rock the dragon intro with the game play was SMOOOOOOTH AF
Raging blast 2 was pretty good as well
I remember when I got this game. 4th grade end of grading period got all 100s and got to buy a game. Played it all the way til highschool. Future Gohan with the Z-soul that let's you infinitely basic attack while full power was my favorite
It's is! It was my coolest childhood and I really really liked with it's coolest theme
My friends and I chose 5 random characters to play. When whole day finish we didn't know. Such a beautiful game.
Speaking facts casually. Still waiting for a next game with the amount of content and love of the Tenkaichi series
I jus gotta say those first 10 seconds were AMAZING, I have goosebumps.
This was apparently so great that someone put together Tenkaichi 4, and it looks more than worth playing too
It now really exist!!!
I really enjoyed this video. Man..I walked away from TH-cam so long ago but I love seeing new creators bringing such awesome content like this. This was great, keep it up!
(Also, I hear "Rain" in the background! Would love an FMA video from you)
I don’t know if it’s possible but if they can release this game on Nintendo Switch I would literally die
This game should’ve had tournaments
Reminds me of SSBM an older game but perfected so well it holds up to this day.
I'll answer this. Yes. Greatest of all time. Even better for the time it came out. The complexity of it's hand to hand combat was top notch.
If the stars align and we somehow get an official bt4, it would be really cool to see newer models like in db kakarot, but with the same classic cinematic style of the budokai/infinite world series
Well... it seems that the stars have aligned
@@Assadar5402 they sure did, life good
Lol yooo that intro was epic
I still play this game in 2023 because it’s my favorite game on my ps2
Also god the Arin Hanson clip of him going "Ah GOD MY FUCKIN' KNEE" got me.
Good choice lmao
Here after Tenkaichi 4 was announced
Man, I got Tenkaichi 1 on launch too and it sucked, but I got Tenkaichi 2 on launch too and I was roped back in. Love these games. Wish there was a Steam version.
Playing this on Wii was amazing, making the techniques movements with the wiimote. Also the clashes were easier to perform with the Nunchuk instead of the stick.
Loving all these videos suddenly popping up in my feed that acknowledge the king of DBZ games. I've been saying for years that nothing since Tenkaichi 3 has been worth your time, with the exception of FighterZ.
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: そうです。
16:40 was the best part of the game to me. Dodging hits in close combat. So smooth.
This game is huge in Latinamerica. In my city there´s constant tournaments. My brother has won all the ones that he has participated.
Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is coming!!
Oh boi ! This Opening got mai blood boiling with excitement . . . those old days
The intro of this video is awesome
Do not sleep on the training mode. The basic controls are slides, but when you unlock the advanced training the game uses gameplay to teach you ALOT of hidden combos .. please try it!! Please !!
i'm gonna be honest i never cared if it adapted the story or not i just wanted dem characters
definitely the most enjoyed fighting game this era
I love both budokai tenkaichi 2 & 3 but I have a huge love for 2 because I have played it more than 3😅
I still remember at 9-10 going into the training battles and practicing as ssj2-3 goku vs level 5 kid buu. Had to make sure I was able to whoop any ones ass that sat down to play lmao
You should also try and play and review Super Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Infinite World from PS2 Era..
This game is still being talked about and it didn't need 1 DLC to do it.
I can't believe how good it looks still. 128-bit graphics and it still looks amazing.
3:27 "oh God my fuckin knee" i love the subtle joke
I remember battling with my 7year old brother
I could have send him to tournaments... stronges ki's were a joke to us. The battles in bt3 are so good if you know all controlls
Idk i liked xv2 a little bit more the combat just feels better but bt3 is so damn accurate to the anime and the shading feels like the anime
