      Tony's Refinishing
      Hi Tony
      Do you have any recommendations we’re I can learn this trade professionally like chips away.
      There are trainning places but not to sure what there like.
      I would like the end result to get my own van and start working.
      rather than a garage.
      Thank you.

      I thinks a weeks course is something I may need to learn how from A-to Z.
      Once the course is finished that’s when I would buy the vehicle and kit it out to start my venture.

    I like the fact you’ve done this series. I know from experience there’s gonna be plenty of spray painters that think this is gonna lose them some work by you doing step by step guides but if you believed that you wouldn’t do it. Good work Tony. 👍🏻

      thanks buddy we got asked alot for very broken down videos which tbh take alot of thinking to do, and as for the second part mate alot of painters forget to mention or remember where they started themselves, i myself am self taught 100%, im my day there was no youtube videos to get advice from , multiple facebook groups to ask advice on ect so i started where many of the guys watching this video will be , simple try try and try again and if i had this info back then id have got alot further alot faster , the channels here to help people in all stages professional guys see new products and guns and also the new guys out there gain some understanding and help, and no matter how big this channel may get its always about the little guys

    • @mykswappedescortmk2

      Tony's Refinishing top man. I’m self taught too but I’m not nearly as good as I want to be or as good as you but I’m gaining confidence to do more whereas I would only do my own or families cars previously. Practice does make perfect but technique and gun setup is so much of the finish and your videos and others are exploring that and I’m glad that when I watch them I understand what you mean and why it matters so I’ve learned more than I thought I had. Keep em coming please pal.

      mate even im not where i want to be lol, i always approach each day and job as a new chance to improve and if you do that you'll gain confidence and get better and better, the day i stop learning and improving in what i do in this job is the day i think id stop loving it as much but with all the new kit materials paints improving and coming out every year il never stop learning, and rally glad these videos have helped mate keep at it and keep me posted too buddy, regards tony

      Hey man and thankyou buddy , it wouldn’t be fair to do these videos with a £500 spray gun mate I don’t think if we’re doing beginner vids then we’ve gotta break it down to what a beginner can use and explain how they can understand , also have the 1.8 mate for primer had one for a good 18 months still runs a treat

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question fella not the first to ask it lol , the az3 hte s in the 1.3 atomises alot better than the flg in a 1.4 the flg is also really only like £10-20 cheaper , in my opinion it doesn’t have as good build quality as the iwata either I’ve used both these guns for considerable time as we’ve had one of the black flash guns in my shop for 18 months and no issues where as the flg was a little more temperamental with needle packing seals ect , this iwata even though a tiny bit more will last a lot longer it’s also cosmetically a lot better finished the flg always had bad casting but the external finish on these iwatas is what you expect from a top gun manufacturer but on a budget gun , hope this helps mate

    Do you ever paint the inside of the wing, especially the inner rim as they can rust from the inside out ? Or just leave in primer ?

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we’ve painted a panel like this mate we spray the very edge of the inner wing as we did in this video but once the wings dry and cured we would treat the rear of the panel with under seal or stone guard before it was fitted for rust protection

    Sorry to be commenting on a slightly older video, but I wonder if a DIY'er should go for this gun or a FLG5? I heard somewhere that Iwatas like a lot of air, which can be an issue for us with smaller compressors. Mine was the biggest I could afford and it delivers 300 lpm with a 50 liter tank. Have you tried the A.N.I guns? Slightly lower price but supposed to be good. If I lived anywhere near you, I would sign up for a course right away! Learning by myself now. • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi peter honestly id recomend a minimum of a 150 litre 14fcm compressor to run a spray gun with sometimes pricey new but often found for pennies second hand to start out , and standard automotive wax and grease remover or panel wipe mate brands i find dont really matter when it comes to those , if your in the uk pmp supplies our sponsors would be able to supply you with the panel wipe message them through there facebook page

      we use a 150 litre 14 cfm compressor in our shop mate its on a standard supply, the air displacement is probably about 12cfm free air delivery on ours one this size is min for spraying really in my book although others may disagree , and does us for all the videos you see on my channel so one panel to repaints , we need one bigger as the shop consumes air but for a single user like yourself this will be ideal

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi david good question, usually i would open the tack cloth out to increase the surface area of the cloth so it can be optimised in a sense for dirt collection especially on larger jobs but not making it into a ball though ( again the surface area would be small), on a smaller job like this i didnt open it out as the panel is small , i would reuse this cloth though on future jobs and stages and then open it out as i go to open new fresh parts / surfaces of the cloth up to use, hope that all makes sense

I will manage to get thinner for the basecoat delivered on Saturday, so I'm good with that now uff. Do I need anything extra for the clearcoat? Or just 2k clear + hardener will do? Should I mix any thinner into clear coat aswell? Sorry for troubling questions mate, you are really saving me here. Thanks so much for that!

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d pop 10% thinner into the clear mate it’ll help it flow a little bud the base thinner if it’s solvent base will be fine to use in the clear too

  • @JohnWD40TC02
    @JohnWD40TC02 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tony, what brand of solvent basecoat would you recommend? I'm currently just playing around with the Quartz black but no matter what I do as gun setup or adding more thinners the finish is never that smooth, it looks and feels rough like it has a lot of peel plus it has a glossy finish not like clear but a satin finish, is all this normal for a solid black finish?

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      no mate but it shouldnt be dry that would only be down to application tbh, sometimes they do liik a tiny bit satin tbh and base sometimes does have a touch of peel but once cleared that should go

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks ok when cleared but I find with the 610 I have to give it a good wet coat for full coverage, its hard to explain but laying down what I think should be my first closed coat turns out patchy with dry areas so have to go over it again, second coat goes on fine, also find it takes a lot more clear going over the basecoat than it does when flow coating, sorry for all the stupid questions but now I have my dirt issues sorted I'm trying to refine my work

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Base always takes more clear mate to cover than a flow coat as it’ll soak up the clear slightly if that makes sense , clear over clear always applies different , first coat of base should always be light really then go wet after ate

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok thanks for the help, yes that makes total sense I was thinking along those lines, just wanted it confirmed by an expert, ok mate I'll let you get on, take care mate and stay safe.

    Hi Tony, would you recommend the DeVilbiss GPi All-Purpose Gravity Spraygun ? its around 180 pounds and saw a lot of good reviews. just thinking as an investment. heard it can be used for base and clear, not sure for primer

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      honestly mate thats one ive not really used much and its been a long time since i have im afraid so couldnt comment on it properly for you, as far as i know yes they can be used for base and clear and primer if you bought a bigger tip size for it

      @@TonysRefinishingTV ok cool, I saw the Iwata has a 1.3 tip. will you be using the same 1.3 tip for the clear in the next episode?

    • @TonysRefinishingTV

      Yes mate 1.3 is a perfect size for both I find also they have this on offer for £99+vat plus a free gauge and a free sealey 1.4 spray gun so two guns and a gauge for £119 pmpsupplies.co.uk/p/iwata-blue-flash-spray-gun-1-3mm-1-4mm-or-1-8mm-free-gun-and-gauge
