  • In this episode of Joey's Garage I discuss tuning a scooter carburetor with a Wideband O2 sensor. The process is very easy and will ensure the engine is running at peak performance, but in the safest manner possible.

    The only trouble I got is finding a 12 v acc on the ignition had it hooked to the switch but every time I turn the key it would work next time it wouldn't do for now right on the battery till it's tuned so far wide open 12.5-13

    Hey Joey. I'm curious if you remember where you found the graphs you featured in this video. They seem very useful! Thanks.

    When you say about calibration of the O2 sensor what did you mean by that

    what is the part number on that wideband sensor

    Could you go into detail how you wired it? My kit is a 4 wire sensor and 4 wires at the gauge. The directions say that the signal wire should go to ecu. I wired the o2 signal wire to the gauges signal wire and I get no reading on the gauge just voltage and it goes up too high and eventually flashes 20.0 🤷‍♂️

      Thanks. I was a little worried I may make it confusing. Since it a delicate balance of tuning, since the CVT and carb need to align.
      Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share. Everything helps.

      Awesome video and great information, don't skip on the details! It's really tricky to keep these kind of bikes on the road, so it takes as much knowledge as possible to feel out what problems may come about. Thanks for making this feed :D

    Good stuff, please take this as a friendly correction at 8:19, you are 100% correct about those being the stoich numbers, however a Lambda gauge (WB02) sensor does not measure AFR, it measures the ratio then scales it to match the pure gasoline 14.7:1.
    Using a lambda meter like you have that is scaled for gasoline means a readout of 14.7:1 is equal to 1.00 lambda, which is equal to all of those numbers in the chart.
    Example that will confirm your understanding: If you're tuning for E85 and want to target perfect Stoichiometric AFR, then you would target 14.7 on the gauge. Again, because the gauge is scaled for gasoline AFR, not E85 AFR. 14.7:1 = 9.8:1 = 1.0 lambda.

    you don't even have to pull the carb out to swap out the jets. don't have to take off throttle cable, fuel/ vacuum lines, airfilter, ect. I always drain it first, then loosen the hose clamp at the intake manifold, and spin the carb over while it's still in the intake boot. Then bam, pull your bowl and jets. give it a shot next time. #MopboyzGrandRapids

      Christian Tence I believe these kits tell you about how many inches away from the exhaust port to weld the bung.

      I went with temp. I spent some time with a inferred thermometer testing how hot the pipe got at various lengths. Once I had an area, then I took into account contact from legs and operations.

    Hey Joey I have a Zuma that's fuel injected. So I also have an EFI tuner( rolling wrench Beast Mode). I want to install the innovate W/B sensor so I can adjust the air/ fuel ratio with the touch of a button rather than change jets. But I need help with wiring and bung placement.

    Would have loved to see you tune it by ear, and see how close you had gotten, just for kicks.
    Also, IIRC 12.5 at WOT is about as lean as you want to go, 13's are a little too lean for e10.

    • @JoeysGarage
      @JoeysGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DarkLinkAD Thanks for watching. And not to sure how tuning by ear would go. I've been spoiled by tech. Probably would be at least in ballpark area

    Hi Joey! thank you for your work. You helped me with the oil change and now I've discovered your other videos. What GY6 do you actually ride? Is it 125cc? Can you advise me on carburetor setup? I have 24mm, the standard main jet is 105, but I installed an open air filter. Therefore, I consider the 108 .. However, I only ride in the summer when it is 77-95F. I don't have a lambda probe: / so I can only feel or look on color of spark plug... Since I kind of hope you have the same carb24mm + open filter, maybe your setup will suit me too. The following can be recommended from the table?: Main Jet/ Pilot Jet/ needle possition? Thank you a lot for any advice. Jan

    Does the gauge control the wideband o2 sensor preheating?

    • @JoeysGarage
      @JoeysGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +robertas grigas Yes. It preheats automatically when the engine is started

    • @noneshere
      @noneshere 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obd1 + Obd2 O2 sensors only use a 1 volt max reference signal. Most Obd2 are multi wire for the preheaters. Older obd1 are single wire non pre heated. Bungs come in diffrent sizes. Use a cheap digital multi meter to reference the 1volt o2 sensors signal + slay the $130....me I dont use them, I just jet dead rich + lean in what I need throughout the seasons.

  • @thefast427
    @thefast427 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are going to remove the O2 sensor after you got the correct size jet, right? The probe on the O2 sensor practically plugs up your exhaust considering the size of the exhaust pipe and how big the 02 sensor probe head is

  • @RellyOhBoy

    Nice vid but you glossed over the bung hole installation. That may be a challenge for some, as it requires proper drilling and welding of the exhaust pipe. Not everyone has a welder or welding skills. I still believe that anyone with a carbureted vehicle should first understand how it works and then learn how to tune it by Site, Smell, Sound and Feel. Having a wideband 02 sensor can help with tuning but it still requires a bit of trial and error.

    • @iKenFlyPPG
      @iKenFlyPPG ปีที่แล้ว

      You can take it to a fab shop to add a bung for for $60 or you can spend $500 and 40 hrs of tig welding practice and do it yourself. Please let me know of a better alternative I'd also like to know =)

    you have very good content, please continue making videos, I'm sure you will get more subs, and could you make some video about the transmission of a scooter?

    • @JoeysGarage
      @JoeysGarage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words, I'm trying to keep new content on the way. The hot summer day isn't helping, but I'm trying. Most episodes have been recorded at the middle of the night.
      As for the scooter CVT (transmission), I actually have an episode being edited right now. Aug 2016 it should be up. I try to space out releases to compensate for times when I have nothing to work on. So... subscribe and stayed tuned.

    14.7 is the perfect(stoich) number.For cruising you can go to 15.0.For full load 13,5-14.0 is the best.Everything outside this numbers is not good.

      Ehh, just put a cheap fat #130-135 main jet in + lean screw in whatcha dont need season to season...Its scooter, idc if it "waste" a little gas long as it runs like a mule everyday. 1 of my scoots has 65K on a 2008 frame, engine been rebuilt a few times but still holds a roller crankshaft today

    what a load of....waste of time ;a carb can´t control the mixture with precision; just look at the color of the porcelain of the spark plug,instead; plenty of googleads on that.

    • @JoeysGarage
      @JoeysGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe a carb can. They used them for decades on cars. Plus the point of video was that once you get into tuning and performance parts, the O2 sensor also protects engine
