- UP 1943, "The Spirit of the Union Pacific" leads a rocket parts train across Wyoming on Union Pacific's Laramie Subdivision. These cars are carrying solid rocket boosters part for the Artemis 2 Rocket. The Union Pacific is transporting these rocket booster parts from Utah to Memphis, TN where the Norfolk Southern Railroad will transport them to the Florida East Coast (FEC) railroad. From there, the FEC will take the rocket booster parts to deliver to NASA in Cape Canaveral, FL.
With such wide equipment, this train is restricted to a speed of 45 MPH. Also, the other restriction is that whenever the UP 1943 is going to meet another train, the passing train had to stop to let the high-wide special pass by.
Awesome catch
Great catch!! And a rare one at that.
Very cool catch!
neat cars with rocket boosters 4 trucks per car. great catch.
What better way to see the NASA Rocket train on than UP, than to see it pulled by the Spirit of the Union Pacific herself!
Nice catch and chase!
A good example at the end there of the SRB diameter- it was chosen partially because that was the maximum diameter that fit through rail tunnels!
Fantastic camera work thank you for sharing
This will be the first mission to the moon in 50 years. Glad the USA is still making strides forward in astronomical development, and even more glad that Union Pacific is a part of it!
Wow what a fantastic and interesting catch. Very cool and thanks for sharing this. Enjoyed watching and have a wonderul rest of your evening.(Steve)
Must be a really important train to have 2 locomotives for such a short train.
Those SRB cars are extremely heavy.
@@TheBleggh According to UP, ~180 tons per segment.
What's up, bro? Solid 4K footage. Do you mind if I use this footage as I discuss the NS portion of this train's journey? All credits will be given, of course, and if the answer is no, I understand. Have a wonderful day. :)
These engines were cut off at memphis, TN, it grabbed a C6M and a dash 9 and then it changed symbols to NS 056, ran to irondale where its at now, and nobody knows if it will run down the NS East end or the AGS North (the line im on) im hoping it goes down my line but it doesnt look high chances for that.
I wonder why Union Pacific only keeps certain locomotives clean and doesn't really care about the rest of them. That's not a very good corporate image.
