I was at the DBS AGM. CEO said the bonus issue was a SIGNAL of a commitment to return capital to the shareholder. They could have just increased dividends by 10% but dividends increased can also be decreased unlike issuing bonus shares.
Management is telling shareholders they are very confident they can sustain dividends and have locked themselves in their commitment to do so.

Good company don't anyhow issue bonus sharp
