Is DBS the Best Bank in Asia? (Q1 2024 Earnings Analysis)

- With the interest rate still staying high as federate reserve decided not to cut rates, banks are hitting record earnings. For DBS, it is another record earnings but it is also due to the management good investment that allowed it to hit another record earning. The non-interest income rose 30% Y-O-Y which is expected to continue growing as they expand into Taiwan and India businesses.
This also helps to set the stage for earnings of UOB and OCBC. The management have also hint at good returns for shareholders for the year. So if all goes well, there might be special dividends for FY2024 as well which I will definitely look forward to.

Yes definitely a good dividend stock to keep for the long run!

In 2015, DBS was 46th for return on equity (ROE) - 11.2 per cent - among the world's Top 100 banks.
At the end of 2023, it had jumped to No. 7 on this measure, with an ROE of 18 per cent. This outperformance was NOT on account of NIM, or net interest margin, BUT structural improvements and a soaring deposit franchise led by digital capabilities. High-return businesses such as wealth management and global transaction services also contributed.
Yes like what the DBS management said during their earnings call:
1. Digitalisation have service have increased their ROE
2. More money coming into the bank
3. ALOT of capitals available to either invest or reward to shareholders(That's why they predicted $0.24 increase in dividend easily for the next 2 to 3 years)
I am happy that they are less dependent on the net interest income which I expect to see happening in UOB too. OCBC we will have to see what is their next action
DBS potential dividend raiser
Considering the optimism in the last earnings call on top of the good earnings, I feel that there is no issue for them to increase the dividend for the next year 👍
