    This movie was one of the first movies where he did most of his own stunts, that's him on the motorbike. And the knife to his eye, that was real! No CGI there.

    I don't understand why people wouldn't like this one . . . I suppose it's all relative, but I think this has a great villain, a great cameo by Tony Hopkins, excellent stunts, tension ratcheted up to breathless level - and the blinkin' gorgeous Thandie Newton.
    Creating a virus then making billions off the cure? As if that could happen in the real world, eh? No one would fall for that.

  • @woeshaling6421

    The thing is that Ethan is practically invincible in this one, a stereotypical action hero. All kicks land and all shots hit. It's not very "impossible" and removes all tension. The sequels go back to less kicking, shooting and a lot more spy- and teamwork

    • @NecramoniumVideo
      @NecramoniumVideo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      People forget this is a John Woo movie, and it's classic John Woo style, lots of a gunfire, white doves, fire and pyro and a car chase and to top it off, to make it even more 2000, Limp Bizkit doing the sound track.

    • @LordVolkov
      @LordVolkov 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@woeshaling6421 The plot of 3 is so lazy they never even say what the macguffin does. At least there is a threat in 2.
      Just because there is less shooting and kicking doesn't mean Ethan is any less accurate or undefeatable when the fighting does occur. I can't think of a time Ethan loses a fight or misses a critical shot in any of them...

    You actually could buy a cow for £800!
    “The cost of a cow in the UK can vary widely depending on several factors, including the breed, age, weight, and purpose (e.g., dairy, beef, breeding). Generally, you can expect the following price ranges:
    1. Dairy Cows: Prices for dairy cows, such as Holstein or Jersey breeds, typically range from £1,000 to £2,500 or more, depending on factors like milk production capacity and pedigree.
    2. Beef Cattle: Beef cattle prices can vary based on breed and size. For example, a young beef cow (heifer) might cost between £800 and £1,500, while more mature cows can cost significantly more.
    3. Breeding Stock: Cows bought for breeding purposes, especially those with high-quality genetics, can be more expensive, sometimes exceeding £3,000 or more.
    4. Calves: Younger calves are generally less expensive, with prices often ranging from £200 to £800, depending on breed and health.
    Prices can also fluctuate based on market conditions, location, and the time of year. It’s a good idea to consult local farmers or agricultural markets for the most accurate and up-to-date prices.”

    Dawn, the problem with these first two "Mission: Impossible" films is that they pretty much ignored their source material (The original Mission: Impossible TV show). With the exception of how the missions were delivered (with self-destructing gadgets) and the existence of the oh-so-convincing masks, the first film could have almost been any generic spy movie and this film could definitely have been any old over-the-top action movie. The nail on the head you hit was expectations - expecting something like the first movie makes sense but it wasn’t meant to be like the first. The director is known for this type of directing (see face/off)… I think that ruined it for a lot of people (even though it made a crapton). I think there’s charm to it being an action movie and I think that the movies down the line are actually more similar to this one than the first movie.

    This was a John Woo directed movie. He's known for 3 things in his movies. Machine Gun, Martial Arts, and Motorcycles. Heavy on the action, less on the plot and context. The other ones are more complex story lines.
    BTW John Woo's Hard Boiled is terrific. Though it is a movie dubbed into english and the main character's name is "Tequlia." Very actiony and and lots of shooting and explosions and more shooting and explosions, and motorcycles and machine guns ... that shoot a lot of things that explode.
