@@richardkinley8872 That one really is good though - mechanically. I don’t know what he is actually being pulled into for the stunt but the way his body bends around the shape of the car looks so good! The glass shattering on the rear windshield is awful if you watch it frame by frame but I usually have my focus on Tom hitting the car hehe

"I don't think I've ever seen a stunt done like that in my whole life." A line that is repeated with every subsequent MI film. It gets crazier and crazier. And cruise does it himself. No stunt doubles. Insane.

At this point in 2006, J.J. Abrams was best known for producing the show "Lost," which was about two seasons in and in its peak. (Abrams was the main executive producer but most of the work was done by Carlton Cruse and Damon Lindelof.) He also produced "Felicity," which starred Keri Russell. She is really playing against that college girl type here even though by now, she has become known largely for some dramatic and action roles.

    • @kuhpunkt
      @kuhpunkt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cuse, not Cruse ;)
But Abrams didn't have much to do with Lost overall. Tom Cruise picked him as the director for MI3 after having seen Alias. Cruise called Abrams even a few times while he was on Oahu filming the Lost pilot and Cruise showed up in the editing room for the Lost pilot. He was one of the first people to see it.

I think the UK’s closest to Slurpee is Slush Puppies. Slurpee is the brand name from the convenience store chain “7-11” and, at least in Canada, the term Slurpee has become the generic term for the slush drink no matter where you get it. Kind of like how we use ‘Kleenex’ the brand name as the generic term for any tissue.

Detective Dawn back on the case!!! Granted he's one of the greatest actors of all time but I absolutely love the way Philip Seymour Hoffman played Davian. Do you recognize him as the young sailor on the boat, who died while he was listening to a recording sent from home by his mother? Apocalypse Now was released in 1979, but it was actually filmed in 1976 -- when Laurence Fishburne was 15 years old!

Cruise DOES do his own stunts, but that's not even the crazy part. He actually DOES the stunt. It's not bullshit, it's not CGI, there's no safety harnesses or foam mats. In one of his movies he climbs on the side of an airplane that's taking off, and he actually did it, for real, without any safety stuff. The only editing they did was remove a camera mounted on the side of the plane that filmed close-up shots.

"Davian" was a psychopath interested in money and power.
      "Lane" is an ideological fanatic.
Where "Davian" could easily be bought off, or even coaxed into changing loyalties through his ego, "Lane" is incapable of stopping. It is "who" he is.

Maybe my favorite lines from this reaction:
“I feel like I should be helping.”
    And
    “Use your climbing hands!”
It’s good that you are saving your “best movie ever!” for the later ones. II & III are not the best. II may be the worst of all them. Even though John Woo, the director has directed some my favorite Hong Kong (eg HARD BOILED) and Hollywood (eg HARD TARGET, and FACE/OFF), I just think he didn’t understand the property.
IMHO, MI: FALLOUT aka MI: 6 is the best one. But it really got better from IV on.

I'm an old fan of the TV series, so the first movie was hard to take Jim Phelps, thrown under the bus as a jealous husband/traitor for money. Horsecrap.
The second one was an action movie that was just not MI. I gave up until several of the movies had all come out. I'm not a fan of JJ Abrams in general, for ruining other franchises I already liked, but he pulled off this franchise until now I just see a next-gen MI team.
I still miss the OGs, especially Peter Graves and Leonard Nimoy and Walter Landau, but-- time moves on.

From here on these MI movies get better imo. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a great villain! I'm with you Dawn Marie we're not here for a love story! We want guns and action and explosions and a pretty girl here and there! Haha😁 Now on to the next MI4 ghost protocol!

The ending of the first M:I movie shows Ethan Hunt being recruited for the next mission, and DAWN wants the same ending in every other M:I movie? 🤔 Is Dawn intelligent or unintelligent?

Unfortunately due to schedulings, it took a while for the film to get a stable female team member.
This was the first of the franchise that really felt like the IMF to me. Way more of a team feel than the one man Ethan Hunt show.

It gets much better from here on. to me 3 was the weakest of all of them, but I also noticed you also had issues with 2, but starting with number 4, each one will get much better than the last.

If you’re liking spy movies you ever considered Kevin Costner’s “JFK (1991)” or “Wag The Dog (1997)”?

Tony Scott’s Spygame with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. 3 Days Of The Condor, also with Redford.
