  • Easy process for removing rust from metal parts without damaging the metal surface. No harsh chemicals, easy to use. And most importantly it works without the need for a lot of effort on your part.

Saw another channel where they then covered the soaked paper towel with a plastic bag to prevent drying out. They said Evaporust encourages this for large projects and even then placing magnets on the plastic to ensure close contact to prevent drying out.

Thanks for the video, I'm in the exact same situation now. The paper towel soak system seems to work really well, I'll give that a go.

I bought some Evapo-Rust here in Aus where it seems almost impossible to obtain Naval Jelly which, for reasons of viscosity and multiple reports, seemed like what I needed but upon further reading, it also sounds much more vigorous which isn't what I want for the reference surfaces (datums) of my poor neglected lathe ways. Thank you for this description. I was considering applying blue masking tape up each side of the ways to contain liquid but your paper towel technique looks a lot more practical. happycrocodile's idea of using cling wrap also sounds great.

That stuff works well! Really nice lathe and mill, decent size and a convincing vice too!
Organised and tidy shop has to be a goal but never seems to happen! Too busy making!

Yes I tend to destroy the shop in the process of making something. But there is that satisfaction that comes when everything has it's place. I aspire to that. Not sure if I will get there or not, but will at least try to make a few steps in that direction.

@@EnglishCharlie Organization wise I'm not sure. But it would sure help if I had the bobcat up and running and out of the garage. I found a video from over a year ago with it parked in the same place... Really need to get it moving and back outside.

If for any reason it dries on you again you can add a little more evaporust to dampen paper towels and they'll pull right off. Thats been my experience. Great stuff.

Perfect thanks I will have to try that. It wasn't too hard to come off, but sure a lot easier when it was still a little damp.

How would I do this on a vertical surface like a drill press column?

    • @ResearchDesignBuild
      @ResearchDesignBuild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

There is a jelly that they also sell. I will find a link to that product and put it in the description. It is a little more expensive and I think that the paper towel or old rag soaked in the evapo-rust would also work really well. I have done some vertical parts on the mill and lathe this way.

@@ResearchDesignBuild Do you think the gel would work on the underside of my truck or is there something else better?

    • @ResearchDesignBuild
      @ResearchDesignBuild  ปีที่แล้ว

@@CybekCusal I bet it would work really well. I would start by taking off as much surface rust as possible with a wire brush or something similar before applying and maybe even some degreaser just to give it the best surface so if can be most effective.

Wrap it in your old bath towels a few layers with any wire or tape.
Pour a couple litres of vinegar on to it.
      Wrap it in plastic wrap.
Keep it wet for a couple days.
      Unwrap and rinse with water.
      Blow it dry with air.
Oil it with ANY oil or spray wd40 etc
Throw the towels into your washing machine with detergent just like normal.
Throw your used tape and plastic into the bin.
Put you unused wrap and vinegar back in the misses' pantry. She'll never know.
So dont buy $1 worth of vinegar thats been rebottled into a $20 bottle, unless your salad tosser. Save your money and buy some new safety glasses. Because this dude didnt even mention the product is a weak acid and can be neutralized with bicarb untill the bubbles stop. AND use eye protection.
      SATIRE ?
This is how to clean your vertical surfaces. Tape towels and vinegar.
      Cheap to use
Cheap and safe to clean up.
And it does work as i say.
So save your money pal. If you dont know were the kitchen is just scream out for a feed. That response was you woman in the kitchen feeding her face. Tell her go out side and walk the dog she needs to lose some weight. Wife thinks your talking about your dog. But we know she could lose a few pounds. No sneak in and find the wrap, towells and vinegar.
Hope this helps. I got 3 drill presses, mill and two lathes been waiting a couple years for me to get some motivation. Go nuts guy get your chick involved. Her sweetie come lube my drill pole, its so dirty, wipe some grease in her eyes and wrap the towell around her heas and pour water on it. She will be ok, but she will NEVER forget to stay out of YOUR workshop.
Yes i know what your thinking. This guy is smarter than Joe Biden.
      But, well ......
Ummm yeah mate, im just troll.
But try the vinegar ya misses knows whete it is. Tell her to go get it, they love being the go for chick.
      More satire.........?
And please don't waterboard your misses untill she gets the shit you need from the kitchen first.
