These old bikes are very challenging at times, but overcoming these problems gives a sense of achievement, that's what I like......

Remove the pistons before you give it the impact gun treatment ;-) Keep up the goed work, got the same bike and mine needs some TLC as well.

Appreciate your videos. They are super helpful. I am currently taking apart my Kawasaki EX500 engine. The reason for this is that it has seized. Not sure what the problem is. I bought it used. Was running alright, wouldn't idle very well though. Took it to the mechanic to get the carbs cleaned. Afterwards, it was running fine. Although, on startup up, it would make a clunking sound. Let it sit for a couple weeks waiting for registration and insurance to come through. Went to start it up after it was registered and insured and it wouldn't turn over. Completely seized. Mechanic said to junk it, I decided to turn it into a project.
At this point, I'm pretty deep into the engine. The cylinder head and cylinder block are off. In your videos, I am at part 5, Clutch Teardown. Any thoughts on what might be wrong? Cylinders are fun, no signs of rust (this is what the mechanic thought it was). I have been reading through some of the comments in your videos and you mentioned a slipped or spun rod bearing. Could this be my problem? If so, what will the repair look like? Is it feasible for an unexperienced guy like myself?
    Anything will help! Thanks!

Is it possible to do the clutch without dropping the whole engine or do I have to go through parts 1-4

Good question, it depends what you mean, remove the entire clutch no. Replace all the plates yes.

Okay, I'm talking about the linkage from the foot to the gear box itself. I wanted to inspect the internal linkage and make sure it was okay. The lever is a bit wobbly . A friend is giving me the bike - I just need to put it back together, though it's not too badly taken down. I can do what needs doing except I want to check the clutch and I haven't done the clutch before.
      Thanks so much!

      Do you mean the chain?

    • @izzojoseph2

The lever you push down and up with your foot to change the gears. It's wobbly. I check the outer screws that fasten it to the bike and that's not the issue so I wanted to look inside. Didn't know if I can just remove the outer casing or if I have to break the whole thing down top to bottom.

That's not the clutch, that's the other side. You mean the transmission cover - here - th-cam.com/video/WR_0qqKlr0I/w-d-xo.html
