  • Upholding the independence and credibility of the Election Commission of India is no rocket science, says Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr S.Y. Qureshi. In an exclusive conversation with ThePrint's Jyoti Yadav, Dr Qureshi addresses questions about the transparency in political funding, the timing of the Supreme Court's judgment on electoral bonds and the alleged hacking of EVMs. Watch #ThePrint #OpenUp

    I don't want ballot box.
But 100% VVPAT counting is must for transparency, and gaining people's trust.
EDIT- the reason why 100% VVPAT is better than just going back to ballot paper is, votes should only be valid if VVPAT count is same as EVM count. This prevents malicious actors to tamper VVPAT slips after voting.

What's the point of 100% vvpat counting. Should be a randomised percentage

    During tenure of Quraishi
    1. ECI was selected by only government, LoP was not involved in selection.
    2. There was no VVPAT
    3. Donations was recieved through cash.
But election process was transparent, isn't it

He already discussed these reforms earlier during his tenure as an election commission officer. But I believe this might be your first time hearing about it, am I correct?

@@pranjalsoni1743 Whatever reforms he discussed are all legislative reforms. He emphasized that the election commissioner should obtain opposition approval. When I mentioned his discussion on reforms, I meant that he addressed them, not that he has implemented them. He lacks the authority to enact these changes. What matters most is that he is speaking truthfully. Today, the election commission has become a joke. Trust and narrative are crucial, and unfortunately, we have little trust in the election commission today.

Before 2023 ECI chief was selected by President (member of ruling government) now she/He is selected by 3 members Prime minister,LOP, one cabinet minister.
Hypocrisy ka baap hai CJI , judges selected by collegium which is a complete opeque system.
Nowhere in the world judges were selected by themselves.
Hamara judiciary became like a stagnant pand water.

To kar lo change. But why on earth should be only in the hands of ruling party. CJI, PM (or Law Miniters) and LOP (or some other eminent leader from opposition) ki ek committee bana do. Sarkar to ye chahti hai ki sirf unki chale. To bhai har jagah to aise nahi ho sakta. Separation of power ke bina democracy khatam ho jayegi. Wasse hi parliament ko sirf ek aadmi chala raha hai. Har cheez ek hi aadmi ko nahi chalani chaihye. Aaj tumhe wo aadmi pasand to uske gaan ga re ho, par socho kal koi aur aa gaya jo tumhare hisab se kharab hai to usse kaise rokogey?

No Cap on election expenditures required. If someone has money he can spend it. If some company wants to donate it can donate. Caping expenditures in elections is highly undemocratic and unconstitutional .
