Hi Scott, This is great content! can I please know in which step of the process that we would get the certification/road worth compliance? Also, what prices would haven if the import is limited to one car. Cheers
Hi :) The certification compliance is done once you are ready to register the car, you can take as long as you like but it needs to be done before the car goes over the pits for inspection. I think this is around $100-$200. We are going to be doing this with our cars very soon. The certificate doesn't impact importing the car, only registration.
Hi Scott, Thanks for the video. I came across a new 2021 911 GT3 (that one can't get in Australia) with the steering wheel on the wrong side for us. It's there any chance I could purchase and bring it to Australia?
Yeah, you missed a few items. The car must have refrigerant gases removed and certified as asbestos free before shipping. You also failed to mention that the valuation for import duty is unrelated to the purchase price and is assessed on local Australian market value INCLUDING all costs involved with shipping. We get screwed from every direction.
At the time I didn’t need an asbestos cert but that seems to be part of the standard process now. Depending how long you have owned the car for you can argue against an Australian market value assessment, I’ve never had one based on the cars I’ve imported but I’ve heard of new purchases being picked up on this now.
Hi enjoyed your video do you perhaps have David nr l am in SA and am planning to come back with my vehicle and furniture so l would like to contact David re the above. Thanks
Blake Gillon if it’s a personal car then you need to have owned it for 12 months. New cars may require further approval but we have never done that. I’d also perhaps think that Aus and NZ might have some easier rules so that would be worth exploring. You can I port new cars but the price adds up quickly with additional import taxes and compliance checks.
Import Tesla’s and tell aussies about it to really up your subs. I’m thinking of doing it if possible because they are just ridiculously expensive here but with so much sun hours we’re all nuts not to own a Tesla.
The problem here is infrastructure. A lot of apartment blocks in the cities don't have charging points. Great idea but the infrastructure really needs to catchup here in Australia. I have no idea what the demand is for them here, they seem to be a luxury car, probably because of the price.
@@OutlawGarage yea above 70k you have to pay lux tax. The government should be subsidising them not smashing people for wanting to go green! Agree on infrastructure though. But why would Elon invest here when the gov has created such a high barrier to entry.
Hi Scott, Thanks for the video. I came across a new 2021 911 GT3 (that one can't get in Australia) with the steering wheel on the wrong side for us. It's there any chance I could purchase and bring it to Australia?
The best thing to do is apply for an import permit for $50 and see. Registration will be an issue on a new car being LHD as it might need to be converted and it would need an engineers certificate. Anything with a new car is really hard.

It will be lct 33%
I want to move to Australia is it possible to ship my car to Australia?
Depends on the car
Hey Scott, Great channel, enjoying the videos. Moving to Perth myself this year. (Not from Dubai) Can I ask which shipping company you used? Seems like a great price! I know prices have gone and getting some crazy quotes. Cheers
I have a friend that organises my shipping for me and I've used a few different people, send me a message on instagram @outlawgarage2013 and I'll send you some contact details and we can chat 😃.
@@OutlawGarage thanks appreciate it! Will send a message

I'm looking to import a car from Japan to Australia im guess all the same costs apply??
Also do you have any recommendations of a Japan importer??
Dan Foster yep all the same costs. I don’t know anyone specific but I do know a few people that have shipped cars out of Japan so I’ll ask them for you.
@@OutlawGarage Hay scott
Oh ok.
Yeah please if its not to much trouble thank you.
Been doing a bit of research on line to. But also like to here what others have to say.
Cheers scott
Sammit in Japan import to Australia and New Zealand. But mostly USA and Canada
Do you guys import cars from Japan to WA?
JakeSullivanMedia we haven’t done but the process is exactly the same, just the shipping costs are different.
Hey does anyone know what is Model report approval number or holder? Where can i find that or get that approval?
I actually don’t know what that is??
It’s one of the questions we get when applying for the approval.
@@buddhikarajasinghe4708 I've never seen that question before??? Is it the Vin?
Hi Scott, This is great content! can I please know in which step of the process that we would get the certification/road worth compliance? Also, what prices would haven if the import is limited to one car. Cheers
Hi :)
The certification compliance is done once you are ready to register the car, you can take as long as you like but it needs to be done before the car goes over the pits for inspection. I think this is around $100-$200. We are going to be doing this with our cars very soon. The certificate doesn't impact importing the car, only registration.
For one car just half the prices except for the shipping container price.
Thank you, you did mention that duty is not included, I’m I correct to say it would be around 10% of the vehicle price?
@@jadeoneone Hi, thats correct, you do get a little discount with a pre 1989 car but the rules change a lot.
@@jadeoneone Happy to chat via instagram if that's easier for you at @outlawgarage2013 :)
They really milk you with those fees. Surprised there wasnt a 'Fee administering fee'.
I think they have one of those 🤣
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the video. I came across a new 2021 911 GT3 (that one can't get in Australia) with the steering wheel on the wrong side for us. It's there any chance I could purchase and bring it to Australia?
Hell no. I mean you can bring it over but it'll never see a road of any kind.
How much import charges you paid?
Raag Mittal our full charges are covered in the video, the only bits we didn’t cover are the ones associated with tax which depend on the car value.
Outlaw Garage
So like the tax is implied on the original price of the car or on the value that the seller is selling or exporting?
Raag Mittal the tax is applied to the value the importer declares. It is somewhat checked when importing but not in detail.
Outlaw Garage Perfect!
Thanks for your help.
That’s a really nice video :)
5% custom duty at port in Australia + other duties + insurance + compliance costs then add car taxes
hi mate have you imported something newer under personal import?

Hello, I will import a 2010 model f10 series bmw. Is the whole process the same for my vehicle? can i sell the vehicle after import ?
You won't get it imported as we already have them here. Has to be older than 25 years. And there's also what type of drive it is
Hi enjoyed your video do you perhaps have David nr l am in SA and am planning to come back with my vehicle and furniture so l would like to contact David re the above. Thanks
David Rich at www.ihhunter.com
Not sure if he is still there.
Is $7407 total for x2 cars?
I think I broke down the price per car??? It’s a while since I’ve watched the video
So any car post 1989 your not able to import? looking to import from nz to perth. and also do you have to own the vehicle for longer than 12months?
Blake Gillon if it’s a personal car then you need to have owned it for 12 months. New cars may require further approval but we have never done that. I’d also perhaps think that Aus and NZ might have some easier rules so that would be worth exploring.
You can I port new cars but the price adds up quickly with additional import taxes and compliance checks.
@@OutlawGarage Cheers thanks mate.

The best thing to do is apply for an import permit for $50 and see. Registration will be an issue on a new car being LHD as it might need to be converted and it would need an engineers certificate. Anything with a new car is really hard.
It cheaper to buy one in Australia a $400000 car tax $180000 + rhd conversion add it up
