Excellent review. I had a poor opinion of this expansion because of the random element of the loot. But you are right that some of the other cards (e.g, 'flagship', 'quartermaster', 'rope', 'shaman', and the events) are pretty inventive.
I have the opposite perspective on Loot. When you've played many games of Dominion, it can get a bit repetitive. The randomness of the Loot deck keeps things interesting, and incentives building a strategy around gaining several Loot cards, since you can't rely on one doing exactly what you need from it.
That would certainly make it more random. I think many already feel like they are getting cursed when they are gaining loot hoping for +buy and don't get it.
I don't think I've run into Shaman in any of my games yet, but my feeling has been that the Loot cards are too powerful. It seems that if there's a card that lets you gain Loot, then it's pretty much mandatory that you get that one, and once you have a couple of Loot cards, then the game just progresses at a breakneck pace, with the player with more Loot very likely to win. (Then again, I played one game where I gained Loot and my opponent totally ignored it and won, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.)

Thanks for the comment. Yes, the loot are lacking in a lot of ways, but there are many other cards in the set that are great fun to play with.

For fun ,what if you mix some curses in the loot deck, so it does not automatically become a positive event. Risk/reward

Loot is certainly powerful, and it's very rare that you can skip it.
