I'm looking for a real Aboriginal husband!! I'm 63 yrs old and have just always loved them!! I love Greenland and been reading up sooo much over the past months. Thank you.
Yet another banger. Also, kinda jealous about you able to camp. I remember when my whole family used to take a boat like an hour or two out, and then just hit the land, walk some distance and set up a tent.
😎 Its so lovely to be able to just go pitch a tent anywhere.😁 Was actually thinking of pitching a tent near my house, the making a video with angles not showing any houses😅 Would be epic
Hey Alex, thanks for treating us to an overnight camp in the wilderness outside your home city. You mentioned planting trees. Can you grow them in Nuuk? I can imagine spruce, fir and aspens growing there, but I don't imagine Nuuk having trees.
I love your videos. Thanks for your amazing channel! Still wish you had a Post Office box so I could send you some of our american treats, perhaps to enjoy on your next campout !!
Thanks for showing us Nuuk! I am so lucky to be having a clinical stay in Nuuk for 6 weeks, and looking even more forward now > . < I remember my boyfriend (Nick) once met a guy in Brisbane at UQ called Alex from Greenland - realising it must be you (world is so small) :D
I was just about to say! Yes, I studied with Nick, he basically helped me pass a class in Polymers😄 Feel free to add me on Instagram, if you wanna catch up
@@AlexAmasaOlsen winter too!!? Damn...paper straws aren't doing the trick 😢 who knows..by the time I get there Greenland maybe green lol..is it pretty rain at least? Do you get a lot of rainbows after, or is it making things more difficult?
Recommend the MSR Dragon Fly multi-fuel (liquid) stove for winter camping. I have tested mine down to -22 C. Although it does shatter the quiet solitude with a roar similar to a jet engine it would also scare the polar bears away and keep your freeze dried meal safe.
I have considered that burner, it just seems a little crazy and big flames could spew out (probably why its called Dragon😉). But the propane burner really sucks in cold😏
I'm enjoying your channel Alex. After reading Gretel Ehrlich's "My Cold Heaven", I've been something of a virtual armchair Greenlander. Have been watching the Dash 8's come and go at the Nuuk airport webcams for the last 9 months and love seeing your take on the city. Thanks.
@@AlexAmasaOlsen The Dash 8 is the puppy of airplanes & Nuuk is the best webcam for watching them. Typically I'm also watching the GRL flights on Flightradar and listening to the Air Traffic Control chatter as well. It gets a little more exciting when there is weather related visibility issues.
I have never tried winter camping and I think that it would be amazing but a little dangerous especially in a place like that. Are there any bears in Greenland and around Nuuk? Indeed you are really brave to face such a night avventure. We tried summer camping not far from my home at the Moncenisio Lake, but in summer is rather different. Thank you for this beautiful video. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Winter camping is only fun, if you are not cold😆 Polar bears are not seen very often (as in almost never near Nuuk). But bears have been spotted a few hundred kilometres south. Merry christmas to you too!
This looks great. How come you are not afraid of polarbears? (BTW, it's funny how it's not colder and darker out there than here in Central Europe where I live. Sunset here at 15:40, and 0 Celsius as well.)
There are not really polar bears in the Nuuk area, so no need to be afraid😁 Yes, this winter has been weird AF, right now its plus 4°C.. Sun sets around 14.30 today, but luckily we go into brighter days from now on!
I’ve never tried winter camping. I have a synthetic sleeping bag. I’m wondering if down is better for winter. Is your tent a 4 season tent? Do they make winter tent stakes?
Mine was a synthetic, but probably gonna get a down sleeping bag, the are lighter and supposedly warmer. My tent is a 4-season, its an MSR Acces 2, really like that tent!
I like living here, but I am also biased as I have called greenland home the last 17years😄 Right now in Nuuk it is not even below freezing. Normally it should be around -10°C by now and lots of snow, but this year we got blessed with warm temperatures and melting snow🙄😏
Not very high.. Or to put it another way, in my 17 years combined living in Greenland (Nuuk and Sisimiut) I have never seen a polar bear in the wild.. But, -it does happen from time to time, that people spot polar bears. They are more prevalent in East and Norther Greenland. Yes, it was so beautiful, especially when the few sunshine rays hit the sky!😊
We dont have polar bears roaming around Nuuk, so it isnt much of a concern. They are other places though and after my recent trip to South Greenland, 2-3 polar bears were seen over a couple of weeks.
"There was like this screaming sound..... might have been a fox" Said so calmly, no big deal! 😂Great video!
Greenland look so great in winter, truly a winter wonderland.
Yes, definitely more charming during winter😊
Greenland is a beautiful and top area that deserves visit and tourism

Some people have trees in Nuuk, but in Qooqqut (small cabin place, 50km from Nuuk) has trees like pine trees
love it

No polar bears, so packing a high caliber pistol is not needed, right? What wildlife lives in your area besides sea related animals?

We have our own soda fabric kinda thing 🙂
