Such a lovely, talented man. I used to travel all over the UK in the 1970's / 80's to watch him perform. He always remembered fans at the stage door whom he had met before. Very sadly missed.

So sad that even in 1994 Danny couldn't bring himself to say Jack & I were together of course, we just couldn't talk about it at the time; I guess it's hard to break the habit of a lifetime, reminds me of Steve Allen on LBC, never says it, but says it in every other way possible!!

How very sad that, like his great friend Liberace, Danny had to deny his homosexuality all his life. Jack was his soulmate, they loved each other dearly and were to all intents and purposes, a married couple. Yet in interviews like this, and in his autobiography 'From Drags to Riches' (a great read), he talks as though they were merely manager and client, and friends. I had the good fortune to meet Danny in 1995 - so around a year after this I guess. I was a researcher on a TV show he guested on, so looked after him all day. He brought his beloved hairless dog Jonty with him. Danny had a reputation for being grand in his heyday, and there were occasional hints of it (like refusing a cup of tea in a polystyrene cup, and insisting I fetched it again - in a china cup and saucer!) but he was really a shadow of his former self, frail and subdued. I felt sad for him. How nice to hear him name check Roy Barraclough here, another great performer sadly no longer with us. God bless you Danny, you were sheer class. Oh to have been your personal guest at your famous London cabaret club in the 'sixties! Stars like Noel Coward and Judy Garland (and ghastly Princess Margaret) flocked there to see him perform! On old footage it looks so glamorous and Danny's charisma and costumes sparkled off the stage! Thanks for this rare upload, it was lovely to see Danny as I remember him from the 'nineties. XXX

It's heartbreaking listening to him talk about Jack Hanson as if they weren't a couple. :(

Yes & that twat Richard Madeley was very cruel with his words, he was well aware of the truth of that relatioship & that it WAS a marriage but he quizzed him so crudely about Jack as if they were merely a casual work team. Very cruel & sly.

@@leeandrews2473 Not in 1994, he could have started to talk about it openly.

@@Chillmax ...not if you have historically learned that you need to be discreet about it. It’s not so easy just to be out and proud, that was not a natural stance for men of his generation.

Richard Madely totally outclassed here. A bit like Des O'Connor when he had Norman Wisdom on his show.
