Another excellent video, sir. I'm a huge shmup fan myself (mostly bullet-hell sorts) and Trevor McFur is just... so bizarre to me. Particularly after so many great shmups on so many consoles up to that point, I mean, they had things like Gradius or R-Type to learn from, and so on, but instead of putting in something resembling effort, they just made... that. It doesnt even LOOK good. It really looks kinda like one of those things that someone learning GameMaker puts together as part of a tutorial. Honestly the Jaguar as a whole was just such a strange console. The one thing I remember from the time when that thing was out was everyone just talking about how many "bits" it had, or some nonsense like that. Like, did it have good games? Nobody seemed to know, but it sure had all those bits! It's got Tempest though, I'll give it that.
I remember playing Monster Truck Wars on the Game Gear. One of the consistent things with the Game Gear is how uniformly bad the games were. I also have this vague memory of an article at the time saying Monster Truck Wars was originally going to be licenced by Micro Machines, but it fell through. Essentially they had a game made and needed a sponsor or big name to put on the title. Metal Jesus Rocks in one of his recent videos said collecting for the Atari is cheap as an entry level to video game collecting. Now I know why. The games are uniformly uninteresting for the modern gamer outside of some historical reasoning.
Welcome back! There are really great games on the Atari. But there's so, so much garbage as well. The best game gear game I've played was a 7/10... I'm waiting on something better. I'm general, you're right, they have been pretty terrible
Thanks so much for watching my video! It was a struggle at time this year. At one point, I played something like 8 terrible games in a row. I got super burned out 😅
Krull was a sci-fi fantasy adventure movie similar to Konan and other fantasy movie of the era…only really notable due to the costars being huge in the 90s and 00s like Liam Neeson
I'm currently trying to play through FlatOut on Xbox 360 just discovered it a week or two ago. It's cpu opponets and track objects/garbage can cause you to crash or get hung-up at anytime and can be very frustrating but overall it is a fun racer with challenging physics and a rock'n soundtrack. I was trying to play through Over-G Fighters which is the best console fighter jet game I've ever played but I can't beat this one mission so I'm stuck and had to switch to FlatOut.

If it comes with "Enduro", "River Raid", "Pitfall", and "Halloween", it pays out for the rest of the games, imo. (That Halloween game used to scare the sh1t outta me).
I never bought Fight for Life. I have it on the jaguar. When i bought my Atari Jaguar in 1996, they were clearancing them out. Fight for Life was there in massive quantity. Asked the guy about it and he said it was garbage. Passed on it. I moved back from Hawaii in 2008 and somehow that game was there when I eventually went through my jaguar games. To this day nobody knows how it got there. I played it once. I agree. it's a garbage game. I've tried to give it away. Noboy wants it.
@@RNGGamerYT Absolutely. I would like to know who I need to apologize to, for whatever I did. Excellent video. I agree with you on the games listed. I never played them in the same year. I did pass on a jaguar CD brand new for $10 when I bought the jaguar. They didn't have any games for it. Of the games I bought, Tempest 2000 was what I considered the best. I'm a big fan of Jeff Minter.
I was almost offended when you said scrapeyard dog, till i remember you said on the Atari 7800. I played the heck out of the game back in the 90s on the lynx. The lynx version plays so much better.
Thanks for another fun video. I don’t think I played many bad games this year. But I don’t choose my games randomly either! Haha. I went through the documentary portion of the Atari 50 collection, and sincerely enjoyed it. I think I played at least a small taste of each game, with the intention of going back to some of them later. As I commented on one of your other videos, I grew up in the heyday of Atari 2600 and their arcade titles - and years later, I owned a Jaguar for a while. So, I’ve played a good number of these games previously. But not all of them, far from it. Star Raiders is one that I might dive into. I really enjoyed StarMaster on 2600, which was a nice variant of Star Raiders, admittedly simplified. But I never had the original Star Raiders. I never owned an Atari computer, and only briefly owned a 5200 before returning it (could not mange the non-self-centering joysticks). So now is my first legit opportunity to explore Star Raiders at my leisure. Not sure if I can deal with the UI, decades removed - but maybe I’ll give it a shot sometime.

Monster Truck Wars reminds me of ChoroQ series, I think the 3rd was the only one I played on GBA, Penny Racers I think it was called, at first it's easy to figure out, but then you stop progressing because you need parts you only earn by getting 1st place in an event to earn the parts you need :3

I actually loved the Atari 50th Anniversary Celebration. I did a full review of every game on it. But out of the 104 games on the compilation, quite a few were really terrible . Space invaders and super breakout also came out in 1978
The Atari 50th Anniversary Celebration was great and made it onto my top 10 games of the year list. The documentary portion of it was incredible. But, it did have a lot of stinkers on it. Still, it was a blast to get to play them. It's good for you to play bad games sometimes😅 I hope you and your family had a happy holiday!
Trevor McFur is NOT a terrible game. It is a somewhat average game, but I mildly enjoyed it when it was released on the Jaguar, and I still somewhat enjoy it today. The last time I played it was sometime late last year, but I've played it probably at least 7 to 10 times since finishing it at launch.
I'll take your word for it! As someone who plays a lot of games, it didn't feel very average to me. Still, I'm glad you had a good time with it. Maybe I'll gain an appreciation for it someday
@@RNGGamerYT thanks for giving me a good and kind response. While there are many people out there who talk as though they know something, I try to be knowledgeable about what I'm talking about beforehand. I own over 13,000 games 44 complete console libraries. I not only own them, but I've finished over 4,500 games and probably played close to 10,000. As for the Jaguar, I own it and the Jaguar CD and every game that has been "officially" (by Atari) released for it. As stated above, I also own 43 other entire libraries, but I guess I've also just found the console to be unique. Of course, I find most any console unique, as I own over 360 of them.
That's a world class collection! I don't have nearly as many games as you, but I've probably beaten and played about half of what you have. I also love the Jaguar and would love to finish the set someday!
Strangely enough! The Krull game review over on my other channel is one of my most watched and controversial videos. People freaking LOVE that movie...AND the game
@@RNGGamerYT lol man... atari games were great for their time. But now? They are so unplayable... ya the movie is great if you never seen it. It's that rpg questing feel to it. Like the old conan movies. But ya. They are on a timer in the movie too. Anyways. Just catching up on your older videos, enjoying them. Have a great one man
'Trevor McFur' is just TERRIBLE. I own it as well; it's like a bad 8-bit shooter from 'Action 52'. Clearly they were trying channel Starfox vibes with the whole animal pilot character vibe. What a bait and switch mess. It's the most shallow shooter I played that whole generation. This would have been a mid game on the Lynx. 'ASSteroids.' And OMG! "Geocities graphics"! Dude, you're SO FREAKING RIGHT! If you were there, you know. The Atari Jaguar has the worse library of any console I've owned. I actually liked 'Krull' on the Atari 2600 BITD. I loved the movie as well. I haven't played it in like 35 years or something and don't know how I'd feel about the game today, but the reason I enjoyed it then was the complexity compared to other 2600 games. I also loved the look of it. I especially liked the attract mode scene with the heroes riding across the plains.
I actually like the Jaguar and have a ton of games for it. I never realized how terrible Trevor McFur actually was... my disappointment was palpable. A lot of people have told me how much they like Krull. I'm surprised that game has such a large following. Yeah, it was complex compared to most 2600 games of the time, but I feel like every single section was much more horrible than the games it was trying to copy
@@RNGGamerYT 'Krull' might be a different experience if you haven't seen the film. The 2600 game does a decent job of translating the story to an early home videogame port. I'm trying to think of any good exclusive Jaguar games I've played and I'm coming up blank.
Wow they where some stinkers , playing through Atari 50 myself wow how games have changed 😂 keep doing what ur doing excellent channel and continue to laugh it’s a sad world when people moan because you laugh 😂 merry Christmas 🎅🏻
Mmm... yep, those sure are some stinkers! The only one I actually kind of like is Outlaw, but only in 2 player, where it can be some stupid fun. Trevor McFur gets even dumber deeper into the game. There's a planet that's all toys and crayon-drawn backgrounds, and it's just so dumb, breaking even the very thin space opera theme the game was trying to build. I really dislike that game, and I'm an idiot who actually likes the Jaguar.
I really like the Jaguar, myself. I did get to that part of the game. But it was before I had my new computer, and I didn't have enough hard drive space to capture gameplay beyond the first 15 minutes or so!
Great video. I go through 100's of fighting games, most of whats out there. Even the shitty ones. Fight For Life was so bad I said fuck it. Wasnt even worth getting on my KILL LIST. Time will tell if I circle back to it again.
I love real rant videos all you usually see on TH-cam reviews and everything is always so positive so great I watch these food videos and every single bite oooohing and ahhhhing about how great it is and you watch the video game review and everything is so positive except for maddens all madden video games are pathetic. It’s a worthless game that you should never play apparently but rarely do you see this unless it’s a broken game. But thank you brother from everybody out here if anyone has a brain, will notice steer clear from these……………… Take care and have a good holiday season
Super Mario Bros Wonder is the Worst game I beat this year ( 10 min ago) Yeah I am not trolling. I'll go into detail here on why it's the worst Mario 2D game ever. It's terrible. You have to get a certain of seeds to beat a boss in the level. They force you to get that, a lot of the levels feel like a chore. Then there's break time levels where it's supposed to be relaxing where you just need to get the seed & they make those hard. All sorts of badges you get to equip that you don't need, little flower guys in levels that talk, I wish they wouldn't really terrible. This is the worst part of the game. Bowser Junior is the only mini boss in all the 6 castles before you fight bowser & he's the exact same boss but different backgrounds. Then Bowser is the worst boss in the game when you fight him. You would think you just jump dodge or whatever. Nope, you actually have to concentrate on the platform because it plays music & you have to jump at the right time to Jump Super high & hit the ! point that is in pink beneath him. If you slightly miss a music rhythm jump a huge Fireball might kill you because you didn't jump high enough to pass it. Then 2nd part of the boss you still have to jump to the exact beat to get on top to finish him off with all these stupid obstacles in the way. I don't know how they made 2D Mario game that is so trash.
@@RNGGamerYT The Best Super Mario 2D game on switch I would say Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. That one is by far less gimmicky. It does have time in it though. Not sure how old your daughter is. If she's like less than 7 years old maybe then yeah it be hard for her. If you have her practice at really young ages & she keeps at it, she'll be awesome at games. I know for myself when I played games at a really young age I started to develop my gaming skills. I wasn't good at then like I am now. For me it's hard to introduce non gamers or kids to a video game because I feel they are hard for them.

I see you said, "officially" released. How do you feel about Battlesphere? 😄
Krull the movie is great. But ya, i don't dare play the atari version.
Have a great one man
@minarum I appreciate you catching up on these old videos!
Some Atari games are still a lot of fun.... but there's so much garbage... so, so, much 🤣
Ma takeaway from all this is that old Atari games are shit.
That's not the case at all! There are tons of great ones... but a lot of bad ones, too.
'ASSteroids.'
And OMG!
@EmperorMegas tempest 2000, iron soldier, and AvP were all really good
@@RNGGamerYT 'Tempest2000' is amazing, but not exclusive. I played it on the Saturn. I haven't played the others.
I forgot about it being on the saturn. The other tempest games are mostly similar
Your top 4 almost made me pee myself………………..WTF I wonder what they thought of or did they even play these games before they release them?
I honestly don't really think they did. It was still terrible back then
Wow they where some stinkers , playing through Atari 50 myself wow how games have changed 😂 keep doing what ur doing excellent channel and continue to laugh it’s a sad world when people moan because you laugh 😂 merry Christmas 🎅🏻
Thanks so much for the wonderful compliments!
Games have changed a lot, for sure! But the old ones are still great! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Mmm... yep, those sure are some stinkers!
Krull is asome movie it so underrated.
You're like the 50th person to tell me that. Now, I'm going to have to go watch it
Krull is a great movie I agree.
You should play 'eat lead'
That's a blast from the past! I haven't seen it for sale in years. I'll be on the lookout.
Thanks for watching
Con confirm Krull (the movie) is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
I have since discovered this! 😆
Did this dude forget to upgrade after the ATARI?
Never learned about anything that happened after 1976, sorry!
Great video. I go through 100's of fighting games, most of whats out there. Even the shitty ones. Fight For Life was so bad I said fuck it. Wasnt even worth getting on my KILL LIST. Time will tell if I circle back to it again.
It's incredibly bad... shockingly so. You should try it again just to refresh your memory!
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the content. Unfortunately I played this garbage within the last few months so its still a fresh wound. @@RNGGamerYT
Thanks! I always try to tell it like I see it
i had trever mcfur as a kid
its terrible
I'm so sorry! I had to wait until adulthood for it to ruin my life 😅
Super Mario Bros Wonder is the Worst game I beat this year ( 10 min ago) Yeah I am not trolling.
I've only played Wonder a few hours with my daughter. I'm emphasizing Daughter
Your first mistake was playing ANY Atari game lol
There are great atari games! Dozens of them...
@RNGGamerYT I thought we were friends! 😭😭 You have betrayed me! Lol just trolling bro
Lol...
Atari has good games just very few
@bryanstagl4797 they have a lot... but it's still a low percentage!
All pre NES era consoles are just garbage to me , , ,and i was a little kid in the early 1980s , ,played many 2600 titles but once the NES debut with there first year lineup , , , ,well the 2600 and all equivalent consoles instantly became garbage to me , , a truth i hold dear to this very day , , , ,but the 32- bit Atari Jaguar is very novel and kool in its own right , ,😸👍👍
The Atari consoles are certainly an acquired taste these days. Luckily for me, I still really like them 😁

If you want a good volleyball game play super spike v'ball
I've played it! It'd pretty good.
@@RNGGamerYT the sound of the super spike and when it connects is damn satisfying even when you super spike the ground it's satisfying
@powerviolence29 I need to hear it coming out of the speakers on my Trinitron!
What the hell are you playing dude??
I don't even know... it's just a bunch of random garbage 😅
Awesome.
Thanks! You're awesome for watching
Lol. If u want to play a good bikini volleyball game import Dead or Alive extreme Scarlet for the Nintendo Switch! You will have The Best bikini volleyball game ever!
Lol... don't tempt me
@@RNGGamerYT it's kind of a must have for the Switch. The Sony PS4 version was censored and had items and functions taken out of that version. Definitely a must have import in my opinion. But don't let me be a bad influence on u bud.
@jasontalerico9569 lol you're not a bad influence. I was corrupted years ago. Does the game have English subtitles?
@@RNGGamerYT the japanese version absolutely has english subs!
play scrapyard dog on the lynx a much better game
I did! It's on the compilation. It was way better, and I reviewed it much higher
