Very 70’s, had a pair of these in high school, have always loved swish for sure. It looks like you are super chic with a skirt over pants. Of course makes me want to sew up these. ❤
They're adorable on you! I am chagrined it took me so long to make them when they only took you a couple of hours... 🤔 I definitely made them harder than they had to be. I love the fabric, and I totally could see the pants with buttons. I like your fabric tie, too, instead of a ribbon. The ribbon is kind of weird. Thank you so much for collaborating, because I always have fun when we play with fabric together!!♥♥♥
My fabric was so easy to work with- it gave me a competitive edge 😏 I really hope I can make some buttons work. I think that would make them look less novelty-ish and yeah, be less weird. I’m so surprised by this make!
Erin, It just came to my mind that this Jiffy pattern is almost identical to a Butterick B7000 pattern View B I had on my pattern wish list! Wow! The similarities.
Hi Erin. I'm a bit short so I made this in the shorter version. Used a rayon with a lot of drape . Found them quite comfy and great for hot humid summer weather
Hi Erin! What fun pants! I suggest the “peanut gallery” presses the hems on the next pair! (sorry Adam 😂) I have a handful of Jiffy patterns, but have not made any of them up yet.
I like how you think 😂 I’ll have to throw that threat out there next time Adam starts heckling me from the camping chair! lol. Making this pattern made me curious about some of the other Jiffy reprints. There wasn’t anything particularly different about the instructions but I think some of the designs are different in order to limit the number of pattern pieces. I’ll have to do some browsing!
Thank you Zelda! I was really pleasantly surprised by these. Yes, it was a jumpsuit. I’m impatiently waiting for some French terry so that I can make another one
They came out great! I was thinking the trip to the bathroom would be a problem too, Glad it's not. It is my understanding that "Jiffy" patterns have very few pattern pieces and that when patterns indicate"two-hour", etc , that is only the actual time at the sewing machine. Hope this is helpful.
I knew I had to include the bathroom info because I was SO surprised that it wasn’t a huge pain. Yes, we found out through experience that the “1 (2) hour” patterns mean just time at the machine. There was a lot of hand finishing, which obviously makes the project take even longer. It feels like misleading marketing in my opinion, but I bought the pattern so I guess the marketing worked 😂🫣
That’s a good idea! I need to hem them a tad more I think, so I might actually undo the casing instead and making it wider to accommodate some wider elastic.
Yes! I saw the thumbnail but haven’t watched the video yet. I don’t know if it’s trendy, but it did make me feel more confident wearing them, knowing that someone else also made a similar garment.
Oooooo I think I like that idea! I have a lot of this fabric left so I can make a longer one and give it a go. I might make it wider too, because this bow just feels really wimpy.
I really like these. I would never have tried sewing them in anything but a flowy fabric like rayon, but I really like how yours turned out! Do you think they would work in a culotte length or would they be too revealing? I'm one of those weird people who follows the beat of a different drum and wear culottes a lot. I have an old Burdastyle magazine pattern that is almost identical but it is only in pants length as well. I guess I could make them in full length and just hem them shorter if I felt "safe, but I would appreciate your input.
Hi Nadine! I think a culotte length would be totally fine. The pieces can wrap around almost completely. In her video, Lara showed the pants on her dress form and it helps visualize how much they overlap. A medium weight fabric does help keep the pieces down a little more, but I think a lightweight would still work without the culottes being too revealing. Let me know if you decide to make them!

I’m *such* an influencer. You’d make a fabulous pair, I know it.

Wow Erin! Only 1 piece and so intricate. You look cute in those. 🥰
Thank you! I’m really surprised and pleased with how they came out

Wow they are very similar! I really like that the Butterick pattern doesn’t have the front tie

Those sound FABULOUS for the summer. I might make a similar pair next year.
Love the pants/skirt. Good job. It looks fantastic on you.
Thank you! I’m so pleased with how it came out since I was pretty skeptical

Hi Erin. Your pants turned out great! I really like the cute jumpsuit you have on... if it is a jumpsuit.😅
Thank you Zelda! I was really pleasantly surprised by these.

They came out super fun!! I love them on you!
Thank you! I was very surprised by the result, so I’m glad I made them.

Cute pants! What about using a wider elastic, then the wider hook and eye would work. Thanks for sharing your make.

Tomkat stitchery recently did a video highlighting her friend's makes (new to sewing friend). One of her makes were pants like yours.

I love these! Would the tie be long enough to cross over and go back round to tie at the back? I wonder if that would look good?

Like a super hero cape meets pants, or you can call it pants skirt.
Hmmmm I prefer cape pants for sure
