My father developed vascular dementia. Though it was still presenting itself when he died, there were times when he was totally aware that he was confused, or becoming confused. There were many days were it was really rough, and many days were he would be only mildly confused.
Does all this explain why my Husband is using the patio/pavement as a lavatory?failing to recognise objects,massive personality change?because I don't understand and am fi doing it very difficult to manage.
One year after dementia diagnosis. I taught high school biology for over 20 years. I had no courses of this topic in my zoology and botany BSc. Clearly I'm not the intended audience. I get only fear and confusion and probable nightmares
Unfortunately, without a baseline of cognitive function for a patient like "Einstein" (for extreme example), one could hardly know for sure his constant whining and complaining of cognitive decline is genuine, given the "average" ish indicators used in most cognitive tests. He can draw a clock, tie his shoes, etc. Einstein must be mistaken that he can no longer evaluate complex integrals. Send him home with a pat on the head .. Definitely do not send him for an MRI or anything "fancy" like that based solely on his wild complaint. Wait until the problem is more serious and when there is little we can do. Definitely do not "treat early". As this is likely "aggressive" Sarcasm off now.

I’m a retired GP and would encourage you to take him to see your doctor asap….
