      Hey Verdandi, The problem with any of these requested builds is most of them just want the vu meters, not the standby patterns. I also try and cover all boards - including the nano. Adding standby patterns, means less vu meters.

    Each RBG led has three different LED's -Red, Green, and Blue. Blue and Green need 20 MA's and Red is usually 40 to 50 MA's(MA =Milliamps(1/1000th 0f an amp). So each RBG led needs up to 90 MA's. Add the number of RBG's you want to power , then multiply by 90.(Ex. 144 LED's. 144 x 90= 12,960.) to get minimum amps needed, divide by 1000(12960/1000=12.96amps).
    Its always a good idea to go a bit higher so you will always have some reserve power(also helps power supply run cooler)
    so in the example, I would buy a 15 amp supply. Hope this helps everyone figure out how much power they need for their projects. Also check the data sheet for your particular Led for more info on power needed.

    As always, your post amazing stuff and make it simple enough for newbies like me to get it done! I am building a wall system with a large crossbar box at 30 degree angle to floor with two 72 level plexiglass towers on each end. The box features 2 defused plex covers 3in. by 25in. with 35 left and 35 right leds. need code for mono vu with 72 leds on a mega, and stereo vu with 35 leds on each channel. also, i'm having issues using line in, seems not enough power for analog read on ardueno from my t.v.. Is there somewhere in the code to make this more sensitive? Thanks and know I'll always be one of your biggest fans ! Emotec2007 P.S. Will post video of finished project when I have it all working.

    Hi . Manny-- My request is for a code with 72 leds -=-line-in-=-mega. I also have a couple of tips I'd like to share for everyone building a plexiglass stack tower .
    #1-=- If your leds stay on when no music is playing, try adding a 1 mega ohm resister between the analog in pin and arduino ground. This will kill a noisy board
    ( not all clone boards are equal) causing interference and overwhelming adc with false data.
    #2-=- building a stack tower is very time consuming, so here is a tip to speed it up-=-take a polishing wheel for a dremal tool and put in a revisable drill and
    use this to spin down the nuts till close to the next plate, then finish by hand until tight. Added bonus-=- polish's the nuts to high luster.
    I am building a set of two 72 led towers with a top bar and bottom bar with two strings of 32 leds with the data inputs at the center of of each. I'm using 2 unos
    control them so top bar and bottom bar can display different vu's. the requested code is to control the towers, again with different vu's , all of them with vol and brightness controls. One question though, is it possible to use one pot for two boards at once? ( this would save some cash-less parts)
    P.S. I'm using Scott Marley's code for the two uno board's to provide stereo signals to the bars, many thanks for the link
    Please keep up the great work!

      Oh, forgot to mention I'm using a 40 amp ps, so amps will be no problem. Was wondering also if switching analog(EXTERNAL) to analog(INTERNAL1V1) and using 100k resisters with 0.1 uf cap powered by AREF would work any better for audio input? And maybe powering the pots from AREF too, maybe making both pots and line-in inputs more sensitive? Will post video of the whole thing once its all working.(CAN'T WAIT)!!

      You can never have to many amps... I would look at about 10amps to start with

    • @joetaylor7772
      @joetaylor7772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      each led has three different leds -red, green, and blue. blue and green need 20 MA's and red is usually 40 to 50MA's(MA =Milliamps(1 1000th 0f an amp). So each RBG led needs up to 90 MA's. Add the number of RBG's you want to power , then multiply by 90.(Ex. 144 leds.
Hope this helps everyone figure out how much power they need for their projects

    • @joetaylor7772
      @joetaylor7772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In your case the math would be as such-180 x 90 =1600/1000=16, so look for a 20 amp supply to have no problems

All the ones I found so far are not working - the whole LED strip stays on all the time, is is because the mic is picking up too much electrical noise off the board? And also for 258 Leds line in and Mic for the vu meter 0ne revised-full brightnes and volume control . For the arduino mega of course. I learned that the nano isn`t that capable for those numbers (sometimes i am stubbern but i like the nano for it`s size) But i now discovered the mega 2560 pro mini. Half the size of his brother, and fits nicely in the case i made. Keep tinkering and try to stay healthy. Weird times at the moment (damn corona)

      @cine-lights  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Harrie, Im sorry but the mic version will not work on a nano, it is uno and mega only due to the AREF and 3.3v rail not being very clean on the Arduino nano, which gives off to much noise. so the nano is line in only.

    • @harriebosgraaf2977
      @harriebosgraaf2977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cine-lights thanks for the explanation. Bummer! I made such a nice case for the nano. If I make a separate power supply of 3.3 volts, would it wurk than? With the uno and mega you've als got to use the Rev pin right? Or am I doing that wrong? The mic is always connected to the 3.3 volts line?

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harriebosgraaf2977 yes its connected to the 3.3v line and aref pin. There is a way round it , by reducing the 5v line to 3.3v using external circuits, there are certain chips that will do it for you. I have never tried so can not give you any further info.
