    6:07: Interesting, since in east germany it was quite different, since in school or literally everywhere Stalin became a persona non grata. He (and Trotzki) were even removed from photos in history school books. In east german school books only Lenin was mentioned and the era that came after him entirely ignored and censored (east germany was rather thoroughly with their de-Stalinization). I heard from a history teacher during that era, that you even could get into trouble actually teaching kids about Stalin (and his crimes), when they asked for it (since Stalin wasn't part of the curriculum), so after a kid asked him about Stalin he only answered by referring the Kid to a library. I know there were parts of the iron curtain who still celebrated Stalin, but of course east germany wasn't one of those countries. And when they finally decided that the deeds of Stalin were more of a stigma than a blessing, in 1961 they literally over night erased his name from all places. Streets and places were renamed, statues were removed and even a whole town turned from "Stalinstadt" (Stalin city) to "Eisenhüttenstadt" (iron works city) in one night by removing all the street signs.

    To commenters saying that “it’s weird to see Georgians admiring Stalin despite all he has done just because he was born there etc…” Well, it’s definitely not representative and although I loved this video I do wish it had some context. I mean imagine going to countryside of any poorer country and asking random grandparents political questions…I mean I doubt you’ll hear super enlightened stuff often. Olden generation tends to be more conservative, harking back to older days, but in former USSR context you gotta imagine - these people often lost everything. They didn’t have much under communism, but at least they had a stable job or whatever under the principles of “We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us…”. Many faced big difficulties adjusting to a capitalist system (especially when already older during the period of change when suddenly so much more was required to make a living than just turning up to your soviet workplace). I mean…the economic upheaval and madness of the 90s can go a long way to also explain the mess happening in Russia right now. Thankfully a lot of Georgians (especially the younger generation) are educated and striving for the better, free, European future for the country and absolutely condemn the soviet regime. So this obviously entertaining take isn’t to be taken at a face value as representing the “Georgian” view is my point. I did love the video ❤🤗Keep up the good work Roman!

      There's nothing wrong with admiring Stalin, he was a hero and if wasn't for him and his comrades, USSR would never achieve half of the things it did, most things people (mostly westerners) say about Stalin are fabricated lies from the corrupt and reactionary sectors of USSR, dissidents, spies and governments from around the world... if you read his writings and what citizens told about him at the time, its very clear that he isn't the monster that most claim... the ammount of social progress and labor rights that was made in the USSR in the Stalin era were so much that western elites became super scared of socialism, so they had to create the "RED EVIL" and demonize every single figure of revolutionary man who fought for its people like Che, Fidel, Mao, Hồ Chí Minh, Hoxha, Tito etc...

    • @LizzyS57
      @LizzyS57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Ivan_Mikhaylov yikes 😳 to me as a Georgian (and a person who is quite a history buff) it’s quite the opposite and shocking to hear haha. I don’t know where you get your information from…but I certainly hope one day former USSR (and primarily Russia) will have a reckoning with its bloody past undergo full de-sovietisation and condemn Stalin as much as we condemn Hitler. It’s certainly insane to me to have a museum and sell souvenirs related to the bloody regime that terrorised and in fact murdered some of my relatives as part of its oppressive political purges during Stalin. I don’t think there is a regime with much worse human rights record out there tbh and it’s lies and propaganda are quite well known now if you want to read unbiased sources. I just hope this time will come sooner than later.

    15:44 there is a HUGE reason NOT to put that statue back. Stalin murdered more people than anyone in history save Mao. Why would you want a genocidal murderer's statue in your town square? What did he give to Georgia beside pain and misery? He was born there and didn't give a shit about the place. I have issues like that with the Rebel statues they have here in the US. These are people that wanted to keep people as buyable items at market. There is NO reason to have these men who killed their kin for the right to keep slaves. And there is no reason to keep a statue of a man that ruined the average Russian's life. Even if he was born there. Maybe make a small "Stalin" museum maybe for the interested and call it a day. I suggest the same in my country. Civil war history museum. We don't need to see that shit outside everyday.

    • @kawaiilotus
      @kawaiilotus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think they should put it in a museum with neutral information of his good and bad things he did or if put back it should have a place to inform, it shouldn't be done to glorify him but as a great opportunity to educate, also to celebrate collective effort and togetherness (of the people, not the man, this shouldn't be done to make him look good) and so the artists handiwork of the sculpture doesn't go to waste.

Most of us are happy to have the Stalin statue removed and I don't think we'll let anyone put the statue back in the main square or in front fo the museum anytime soon. Would be amazing to see you showing the alternative side of Gori and not the cliche "they love Stalin" side in the next videos.
