When placing the copied keyframe, you can also click and hold down the mmb to make sure its exactly where you want it on the time slider, let it go and then press "s." The best way would obviously be to create a custom script to copy and paste keyframes with the press of a key...
Tip: for anyone that doesn't get it to work, make sure that you've selected all of the joints/body parts PRIOR to doing this. if it isn't working, it's probably because you didn't select the right parts prior to middle clicking and then pasting and then locking it in with S lol, that's what happened to me!

Isn't it much easier just to make a key, grab it, and place it wherever you want?
I think once you get used to it, this way is easier - especially if you use it all the time. But to each their own, whatever you prefer!
