Don't forget if you want to play HIGH PRESS, you need to do it as a team. You forgot the most important part, your two defenders need to move to half way line when you attack(one can mark and one i free., play as a team and mark as a team(Are you playing Zonal or man marking when the transition happens). If you leave two defender back all the time, you leave huge space in midfield for the other team to exploit. Your Goalkeeper can also come out of his area and play as an emergency Defender, or cover the ball coming over the top from the opposition. DO Not ever encourage a players to to Clear or kick it out (this is too easy for them and you.. players will choose the easy option)..please help them with Ball mastery and keep the ball. Stay on the ball and keep it(why would you want to give the ball away), create passing triangles, support and work hard to get out of tricky situations, Of course occasionally kick up the field, then at least you striker has a chance to recover if needed. If you play from the back and try to play this way you will help the players gain confidence on the ball and and play(pass) correctly. Mistakes will happen, but view these as learning opportunities Practice starting from the goalkeeper and defenders with a half game 6 v 3 or 4. Good luck and enjoy the width and the game, English FA Coach.
It's an absolutely legitimate tactic against a superior team. You can have the greatest setup and counter in the world but if your players aren't comfortable on the ball yet, teaching clearances is better then letting them boot it up the middle out of fear
Trey, this video will make my head coaching debut (scared to death..lol) a lot less scary. Thanks
Just got this as I'm not a TH-camr. I hope your season was a success, as defined by player improvement and lots of fun!
