  • Join us as we real-world test the claimed fuel economy of the all new Haval H6 Hybrid, recently launched in South Africa.
Looking for a used Haval in South Africa? We have over 600 to choose from!
    www.cars.co.za/usedcars.php?m...
Haval has been an incredible success story in South Africa; from what we've been told, the company simply can't ship in enough cars to meet the incredible demand from South African motorists.
Following the success of the Jolion and regular H6, Haval recently launched the H6 GT and now this, the Haval HEV or self-charging hybrid.
This new energy drivetrain H6 Hybrid comes with a claimed fuel economy figure of 5.2L/100km which is very impressive, so we wanted to find out, is this achievable in the real world?
Join our video team and Ciro De Siena for a trip around Cape Town in the new H6 Hybrid to find out the result.

Hi Ciro. Another excellent video. I suppose it won't be a fair comparison in terms of size / category, but I bought the Corolla Cross Hybrid XR a few months ago. Real life average consumption stays a very consistent 5L/100. The XR comes with 85-90% of the tech that you've mentioned and is a terrific vehicle. They sell for around the R470k mark.... although picking one up at that price at the moment will be difficult. With all these things considered, I believe the Corolla Cross Hybrid is a fantastic buy. Stay safe.

Just a suggestion: I think that the channel would probably benefit from doing EV reviews which feature the complete depletion of a full tank of fuel as well as a full battery charge. The test could be set up against a predefined route which features city driving at X amount of kilometres, and open road driving at Y amount of kilometres. If Ciro can't spare the time in his busy schedule, then at least he can do the main review and then hand the car off to a second (off camera tester) who then reports back on the numbers. That would be extremely helpful to actual potential buyers.

It's amazing the price of this car. The Tiguan R recently launched costs R1 million which is ridiculous. I know they're different in application but this shows that there's no reason the Tiguan should cost that much considering that this has way more tech and is a hybrid while the Tiguan is just a plain petrol powered vehicle. A hybrid Tiguan would be over a million then. Crazy.

I have over a decade of living with hybrids every day, and I can confirm they have amazing torque, actually better than the dirty turbo diesel. Not affected by altitude, no seals premature failure due to added heat from the turbo and best of all is the ability to recover and reuse energy through regeneration. With battery size/weight: its output (power & torque), hybrids are a sweet spot for future mobility mix, even better than overrated BEV. Great work Haval, and obviously the vid, Ciro

Absolutely great vehicles. Although unfortunately people who work at haval dealerships have no clue what they are doing.
My vehicle went to haval for an engine overhaul after I had picked it up from service. They had left my radiator cap off causing it to overheat with me the following day after the service.
My vehicle was with them for seven months . Cost me 70k in repairs and far over that in finance over the several months I did not have the car. Such a terrible experience Don't buy these new vehicles in South Africa. The dealership will not be able to repair them when they break

    • @towerkop
      @towerkop ปีที่แล้ว +1

Couldn't agree more. They look good on paper - lots of the screen features are gimmicks - and my ownership of a sister company's product lasted 30 days before I returned it with many things wrong. The dealerships are unable to fix anything - it gets worse after each try. To be honest - the same experience with Ford - at least a "different" dealership cold resolve issues - no such options really with Haval.

Great review, however im not sure the fuel economy at the end of the video is indicative of the entire drive??? Im led to believe the display of fuel economy is showing what the car is doing at that point in time. The most accurate way to determine fuel economy is to start with a full tank then fill it again at the end of the trip, then calculate litres used per klms driven. Would be interesting to see the results.

As always your videos are fab. Appreciate your work.
But I have confusion if you want to choose between Rav4 HV GXL AWD Auto CVT which is now $50453 (Australian Dollar) and Haval H6 Ultra hybrid which is $46103 then which one would you go for.
I am getting both the cars in next week for the above mentioned price, so availability is not the issue for me.
I am really confused and unable to make the decision. After sale market of haval is not so good as compared to Rav4.
And now they have raised the price of rav4 so I am not sure is it worth to buy Rav4 or haval at this time now.
Is this something you can please guide on.
By any chance if you can please reply little early it would be really appreciated.

I visited Toyota recently with the same thoughts that you have in mind. It's on average an 18 to 24 month wait for rav4 stock in Australia. If the dealership is willing to take your money and you're willing to wait then great, but when the salesman told me and my partner those wait times, our main choice of Corolla Cross hybrid (min. 12 month wait) struck out.
We ended up purchasing the jolion hybrid and was quite impressed during the test drive and inspecting the vehicle in the lot. For the price of around $47k AUD you are getting way better and more features than the Rav4 in the H6. We ruled out resale value as we intend on keeping the Haval long term.
Hope this helps and would be good to hear your thoughts.

Ciro, instead of fuel thing which I know is obvious. Would've been good to know how the drive differs compared to a normal H6 for those people who are considering both.
PS. It's not a naturally aspirated engine. It's 1.5l turbo. And battery is bigger and more powerful than Rav4. Haval you can get up to 60km/h on battery before ICE kicks in. Rav 4 you can barely get out the parking lot.

My experience is that the instrument readout of fuel consumption under reads actual consumption measured from fill up to fill up by at least half a litre.
What is the rust warranty on the car? that is very important if you live at the coast. Also, reliability beyond the warranty period?
I get 6.1 l/100 km in a 2007 RAV4 diesel which secondhand cost me 20% of this car. Admittedly it does not have most of the bells and whistles of this one, but in an old car the more bells and whistles the more there is to go wrong.

@@towerkop That's my conclusion as well. But I ask the question about rust because it seems to be a problem with Mahindras if the experience of friends who owned them is anything to go by and I was wondering if also have problems with rust. If I was in the market for this kind of car I would go for the RAV until this car proved itself. Toyota has far more years' experience with hybrid technology and have built a reputation for reliability. Haval still has to establish their reputation. Bells and whistles aren't that important to me, reliability and cost of ownership in the long term is.

Can't help but think of the many SUV's with good old (Dirty) turbo diesel engines that will easily achieve similar fuel consumption if driven the same way. Biggest difference I think is your driving style. If you commute 30-80KM at highway speed to work this will be much worse.(95% running on the same small 1.5l turbo engine) - and in that instance the RAV will fare better I think. If you did city only driving sure it might be great - but then you'd probably buy a smaller efficient (cheaper) city runner anyways. Honestly feel the HEV with small batteries are a stopgap and more of a marketing thing than any real use for SA's lifestyle. We love an all rounder that can commute, but also tow something and do long trips - which is why diesels are still around. A PHEV with 30kW+ battery that allows around 200km electric -sure - THAT would be a different story. (come on Hyundai/Kia/Mitsubishi - where are they!?) Great review Ciro..
