    There are things I don’t like about Galen, but also things I do appreciate. I think the reporters are doing their job asking him the tough questions, and I wish he were a little more willing to speak on those subjects. At the same time, I can understand his frustration. He’s the USA’s greatest distance runner, but has been the villain in the minds of many for years now, absent of evidence that he has broken any rules.
    I, for one, will root for him unless anything comes out to suggest that he has violated rules. Until then he’s innocent. He’s America’s long distance running hope, in my mind.

      "There are things I don’t like about Galen, but also things I do appreciate. I think the reporters are doing their job asking him the tough questions, and I wish he were a little more willing to speak on those subjects. At the same time, I can understand his frustration."
      I certainly agree with this.
      "I, for one, will root for him unless anything comes out to suggest that he has violated rules. Until then he’s innocent."
      I'm not sure I can be that casual about it after Salazar's ban. To me it seems that there is a strong contradiction in the way the ban was handed down, and it can be resolved in one of two ways (of course, I could just be lacking in imagination, so I'm open to hearing alternative explanations). As I see the fact that Salazar was banned means either 1) USADA fucked up and Salazar is innocent 2) USADA was correct about Salazar and at least one of Salazar's athletes is also guilty of cheating. So the fact that USADA has not actually charged any of Salazar's athletes with cheating does not convince me that they are clean. Rather I think they just can't prove who Salazar provided with banned substances (or illegally large quantities of otherwise legal substances, as may be the case). So the at least one person getting off the hook doesn't have to be Galen, it could be anyone. But as long as no athletes are actually charged when logically it appears that at least one of them must be guilty, I don't see how the cloud of suspicion can dissipate.
      Anyway, if you think differently, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

    I don’t know if he is clean or not, but just give him a break. Salazar might be guilty, but he was also a huge influence and father figure in Rupp’s life. Because inanimate objects have no natural human rights, it is easy to ban them from essentially any sport or activity. Banning a couch is a simple decision, most would agree sofas should not be allowed to participate in human activities because they simply can’t. Banning an athlete takes investigations, evidence and coming to a consensus that there is a reason to ban. Those are just my thoughts on it.

    As a runner I understand how important the last days for a marathon are when it comes to taking it east both physically and mentally. Galen went ahead and allowed himself to be open in answering questions, knowing what was to possibly come. Now for you the reporters, I understand your goal is to get the information and anything big, but you reports are just terrible in sense that you are asking him questions that have affected him as a runner since he clearly lost his coach. I'm not saying what occurred for the Oregon Project towards it shutting down was the right choice or on what Alberto case is his suspension, that's on Nike and the people that are in charge of that. But I'm saying that as a runner that's there to race and that has CLEARLY answered your damn questions on that issue you should leave him be and ask him about the race and race only!!!
    Ask your damn questions about the case after the race when he can finally think on all those things with less stress of a marathon and everything else.
    No runner needs to be stressing on outside factors and heck he maybe Salazar's runner, but he hasn't tested positive on any drugs so stop attacking him and his teammates that haven't done any wrong when you got no proof them individually!

    Why no contact with the guy that made him. Like a father figure and so close . I knew I was clean and so is my long time coach that I know is innocent . I would have said “ fuck you all attitude “ and stand by. My clean and innocent coach . He looks nervous and want to show he doesn’t talk to Alberto anymore

    • @clarkfox6975
      @clarkfox6975 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Don't take this as me defending AlSal, NOP, or even Galen himself of possible wrongdoing, but here's how it is as an athlete: to be successful you must have focus. I cannot stress that enough, FOCUS! You've been training the better part of a year to win a single race, any distraction can throw you off. Obviously the whole NOP blowup is an unbelievably huge distraction. To have any chance of winning now he's got to maintain the focus, and avoiding all these questions is an important part of that. I don't blame him at all. Once it's over I think the questions are fair game and I would want him to answer to them all, but for now he's just doing what he's got to do to stay focused.

    • @chazdavis1644
      @chazdavis1644 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clark Fox trust me, I understand what you’re saying. That’s why I was hoping he would comment after Chicago. That being said, these are the interviews he always gives. Jordan at least addressed the situation. That’s got to be hard, though. Alberto is like a father to him. He had been coaching him for the majority of his life.

    • @clarkfox6975
      @clarkfox6975 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chazdavis1644 agreed, we'll see what he's really made of during and after the race. What I picked up from the rest of the interview is the injury recovery hasn't been all puppy dogs and rainbows, so he's got a big enough challenge just to do well in the race. A lot of questions will be answered right there before any AlSal/NOP talk is worthwhile. I absolutely do want to see both he and Mo answer those hard questions though. Time will tell.

    Once again, just like Nike/Team USPS/Lance Armstrong we now have Nike/Nike Oregon Project/Alberto Salazar --- both exposed by British journalism and then investigated thoroughly by Travis ("when you wish it was 60 Minutes at the door instead") Tygart of USADA.
    The common thread? Nike. Those guys are dirty, dirty, dirty.
