      @@multiguy762000 well, I would love to. But the best I have done so far is 22.37min which is not even considered decent, let alone competitive timing. For a male under 40, a good 5k timing is 18min - which is kindof out of reach for me. But I know many in my neighbourhood who can do it fairly 'easily' as they all compete in various races and aim for sub-16.

      7 miles in 30 minutes????
      What?
      His Personal Best in the 10 km (OUTDOORS) is 26:44.36 (13.94 mph or 4:18.2 per mile) Even if he held that 10K pace for an extra 3 minutes and 16 seconds (Super Unlikely) It would just shyfully come out to 6.97 miles. Galen here would have to run a 26:38 10km (Indoors 😂) for an extra 3 minutes and 22 seconds. So yes, your knowledge is absolutely absurd. Not to sound rude, It's just impossible (Plus, he even stopped between intervals).

      @W Sjr I think there's a middle ground! I've run my best in my life (high school xc) at a pretty thin 145 lbs at 6'0", but run not far off it ar 160 lbs while much stronger after taking up lifting. You can get close to your potential in the shorter events (e.g. 800 meter) while still being muscular and quite strong. Best to focus on maximizing every muscle fiber you've got, strength-wise, at a lighter weight.

    Incredible workout. Rupp was at peak fitness that year, track-wise. But NOP athletes frequently took two or three recovery days before a hard/fast race. Many track athletes have two workouts and then the race. So it would be riskier for them to do a post-race workout. Since Galen and his NOP teammates only did one workout before the race, it makes sense that he has the energy to do workouts like these after the race. He still works very hard and it’s still impressive. But it’s not like they did two hard workouts, then a hard race on Friday/Saturday, then this post-race workout. Even Salazar isn’t that insane.

    I love distance running even though I’m not even in near top top shape or should I say way out of shape. I’ve ran a 4:16 mile in high school and thought that I was gonna die afterwards and never wanted to run again. Boy this dude Galen Rupp is just a complete psychopath and he’s not the best American distance runner for a reason. That was absolutely mind boggling. Man I love to run, but not like this though.

    I seriously don't understand why people workout in miles when they target 5k, 10k, 21.1k or 42.2k (all in metrics) and that too on a 400m track. And 90% of the training plans measure in miles. I find this baffling.

    • @hansenzhang3204
      @hansenzhang3204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alh359 ok...? And Bekele is also better than Rupp. What gives? Rupp can hold his own as the best 5k/10k American man. Also, this is a moderate intensity workout geared towards longer distances that he happened to be doing after a race, not a killer mid-distance workout at a very high intensity. Recovery is a thing. I’m sure Rupp has had some impressive workouts himself when he’s in top shape.

    Pity he’s recently been best with injuries and surgery. It’s probably due to running marathons entirely on forefoot. Almost no other elite runner runs like that. They all tend to be mid foot or heel brushers at landing, but Rupp never seems to use his heels. Great for sprinting but not so much for long distances.
