The '80s produced some excellent films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Robocop, Rambo, Predator, Beetlejuice, to name but a few, and smaller films like Dead Heat, Enemi Mine, Reanimator, etc. The list goes on.

Ferraris from the 70s and 80s were pathetically underpowered, and it's not like they handled well enough to compensate. Alot of work trucks would absolutely destroy a Ferrari in a straight line back then. I'm half convinced the cop cars had to slow down constantly and let him stay in front.
Loved this movie when I was a teenager. Everyone always raves about the chase scenes in The French Connection and Bullit, but this has always been my favourite for it's balls to the wall madness. And that car hit with the plate glass has always seemed to me the hardest hit ever put on film. They don't make hits like that anymore (probably for good reason).

To your more valid point, bricks of cocaine were definitely on the rider in this movie's production contract.

Police cars are much heavier than civilian (440 specially, they were in 4500lbs range for civilian) due to added equipment, not to mention stone age suspension on those police cars compared to Ferraris. Torque is not helping either due to a small wheel contact surface (trasfering torque required friction). Don't get me wrong, I'm not fond of overpriced Italian junk car (308) but not a fan of underengineered shitboxes like those 80-es Dodge sedans... I'm glad we agreed on cocaine at least, lol.

The 308 GTSi was the newer, fuel injected model. US models of this type lost horsepower, I believe as a result of the catalytic converter. In ‘83, the Quattrovalvole (4 valves per cylinder) was introduced to address this issue, and some of the power came back.
OH! this is the same guy that was in that one movie with tom selek and the flight of the navigator kid, i think it was about robots and was called run away and the bad guy was from the band kiss, it was a fantastic movie tbh, also if you want to watch a nice little one called I-man, same kid, guy from quantum leap was in it, also a good movie

Mmmm... my uncle had one of those, and I believe the hp was around 240. European ones had a little more, around 255 hp.
